What’s new in version 1.4.00.29478

Updated on Dec 06 2021

Version 1.4.00.29478:
  • Export Teams list from the Teams admin center: Administrators can export Teams list as a CSV file from the Teams admin center.
  • Speed dial for iOS and Android: This feature makes your most used calling contacts easy to access with one tap dialing.
  • End-to-end encryption option for Teams 1:1 VoIP calls: Microsoft Teams will support an option to use end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for ad hoc 1:1 Teams VoIP calls, providing an additional option for conducting sensitive online conversations. To support customer security and compliance requirements, IT will have full control of who can use E2EE in the organization. E2EE for Teams 1:1 VoIP calls will be available to commercial customers in preview in the first half of this calendar year, expanding support for online meetings later. Learn more
  • Video Streams Out via AJA or Blackmagic Design Hardware: Isolated video streams can be sent out of Teams meetings via AJA and Blackmagic Design hardware devices.
  • Microsoft Teams tab actions are moving: Microsoft Teams tab actions are moving out of the tab header bar and into the tab dropdown to help declutter the user experience. This impacts all application tabs such as Assignments, Grades, Planner or the Website tab. These tab actions will be found by clicking on the tab name to show a dropdown menu. These actions include: Reload tab, Go to website, Copy link to tab, Pop-out tab, and About this tab. Users that have come to rely on these tab actions being available in the tab header bar may have difficulty finding these common actions. A one-time educational coachmark bubble will be provided to educate users about the change, so consider bringing awareness to your users about this change.
  • Cortana now available for EDU customers in international markets: Cortana voice assistance in the Teams mobile app and Microsoft Teams display is now extending EDU support in international markets to help you streamline communication, collaboration, and class-related tasks in school using spoken natural language. With Cortana voice assistance, you can call someone or perform class-related tasks, you can message someone or send message to your class. Also, you can find and share files, and search or navigate within the Teams mobile app or on the Microsoft Teams display. The initial release will be to UK, India, Canada, and Australia. This is in addition to the prior release to EDU customers in the US.
  • Anonymous user join policy: Teams meeting policy that controls allowing anonymous users on the meeting organizer level.
  • Chat with Teams users with accounts that are not managed by an organization: Chat with Teams extends collaboration support by enabling Teams users to chat with team members outside their work network with a Teams personal account. Customers can invite any Teams user to chat using an email address or phone number and remain within the security and compliance policies of their organization.
  • Apps in chats and meetings with external users: When complete, we will support apps in meetings and group chats with external users.
  • End-to-end encryption for Teams calling: End-to-end encryption is the encryption of information at its origin and decryption at its intended destination without the ability for intermediate nodes to decrypt. End-to-end encryption would be an optional mode of real-time media collaboration where one-to-one Teams calls between two parties would be end-to-end encrypted.
  • Teams device management for SIP devices: IT Administrators will be able to manage the Teams SIP devices of their organization through the Teams admin center.
  • SMS patient notification for EHR integrated virtual visits: Ability for patients to receive SMS notifications for confirmation and remainders of their EHR integrated virtual visits.
  • Teams device management for Surface Hubs: Administrators will be able to setup, manage, and monitor their Surface Hubs through the Teams admin center.
  • Interactive Large Gallery: View up to 49 video participants at once, and interact with them via actions like pin and spotlight, and observe their meeting activity like raise hand and reactions.
  • Approvals eSignature DocuSign integration: Users will now be able to choose DocuSign as their eSign provider when creating an eSignature request within Approvals. Admins will have the ability to turn off this connector within the Teams admin center.

Really wish that when I read "What's new in Microsoft Teams," it would say "Fixed the longstanding CPU issue. Your computer will no longer enter vapor lock in the middle of an important meeting." One can wish, I suppose.

I don't know why Teams is so processor-heavy, but my macbook sounds like it's going to take off every time I use it.

It's so disappointing, in this day and age of remote learning and working from home, that Miicrosoft Teams is such a cludgy piece of software. The Office apps and Todo are all Mac native and are much improved, but I only use Teams because I'm forced to by my work environment.

I cannot express how much I detest MS Teams. Horrible, unreliable, capricious, ugly, sluggish, battery-hogging, overcomplicated, bloated piece of garbage. No fast user switching! Hangs all the time, often cant even force-quit. The iOS version is much better as it's a native app. This is a browser wrapper for a web-based app which is why it's so bad. For an app that is so central to the MS universe it is unforgivable to fob us off with this pathetic apology for an app. Even though my corporate environment forces me to use it I bought a licence for zoom instead.

Never had an application before which drains you battery this much. As soon as a teams meeting is started your fan starts blowing without stopping and your macbook heats up. 1,5 hour later (macbook pro 16") you battery is dead.

I only used Microsoft Teams for one meeting. The sound and video were both high quality, although the video often lagged behind the audio. The program felt sluggish. I hope I don't have to use it again.

Sluggish & clunky, single window makes it terrible for tracking multiple conversations, limited faces in video window, notifications hidden under standard macOS notifications, no auto spelling correction or smart quotes, hard to see list of chat/channel/video participants.
