FYI Porthole actually doesn't accept a password protected connection. Good to know before install it.

We've added support for password protected AirPlay speakers in version 1.3.1!

Check for updates in the app, or download the latest version from our website: http://getporthole.com.

Very easy-to-use app that also works on my Mac with OSX Snow Leopard. Love the quick interaction within the menu bar.

Yay, i found my 2005 model Airport Express. These old models don't work anymore on OSX Lion and up. Good to find out Porthole still supports streaming audio to my old Airport :-) Also now audio streaming is not limited to iTunes anymore.

Great tool. I've been using it since the very beginning because it is an affordable way to stream spotify from a macbook to multiple airplay devices. Had some problems with the soundflower settings once (were muted in an obscure settings panel) and had great assistance on fixing that. So a great effort from the developers!

I've been using Porthole since the beginning and it has always worked great for me. I stopped using iTunes when I got my Spotify pro account and I'm glad that with Porthole I can still stream my music.

Never experienced any hick ups or other problems, so my money was definitely well spend!

Multiple speakers support is something Mountain Lion still not supports! So I downloaded the trial of Porthole recently.

It really works well streaming Spotify or streaming radio stations to more than one AirPlay speaker (Airport Express + a AirPlay receiver).

Very few times I get some stuttering, but that is mainly due to the Spotify client itself. Works for me!

Downloaded this app today to allow me to play Spotify over Airport.
the app is simple to use and the user interface is excellent and it steams. No complaints there…but
the streaming is terrible. constant buffering minor interruptions making listening almost impossible as it sounds like a damaged.
If could I'd be asking for a refund as the very reason you would use it is defeated by these constant, minor interruptions.

Very poor and they need to get it sorted ASAP if they want their admittedly nice app to be a success.

I have an excellent wifi network and very fast (above average broadband connection so the problem does not lie there. I regularly stream video content from the web and it never buffers.

Im using Mountain Lion OS could it be related?
Anyway until they improve the app I would advise no one to pay for this one

Nomadicbry, if you're on Mountain Lion you can stream to airplay natively by holding down option and clicking on the sound icon in your menu bar. You should then see all of your compatible airplay devices, and be able to select which device to send audio to.

that only works if you have a macbook later than 2011. my Macbook is 2010 and therefore that functionality doesn't work. I only found that little chestnut out once i'd downloaded ML

That requirement is actually only for mirroring the display. I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and can send audio just fine.

Hi nomadicbry,

Thanks for letting us know what you think about Porthole. I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing stuttering.

You mentioned your wifi network is very fast. Could you tell me how it's setup? Depending on your hardware we might be able to make it even faster :). A great test to check if the problem might be network related is to try to stream a local mp3 instead of Spotify.

In any case, please contact us at support@getporthole.com so we can look into the problem more easily. Or at the very least get your order details so we can refund your order if you're not satisfied.

Cheers,

Boy

On my network, Airfoil and Airplay works and Porthole doesn't. When asked for some support some guy called Boy told me to jump off a cliff, i.e. no support available.

Avoid.

Hi Alec,

As I've said via email, Hackintosh computers are not OFFICIALLY supported. As I remember I didn't tell you to 'jump off a cliff', but did try to solve the problem for you. You didn't tell me if the final solution worked, did it?

Cheers,
Boy

Hi Boy,

SUBSEQUENTLY you did try to solve the problem for me. Worth keeping in mind that Airfoil and Airplay both do work in my setup. I was not able to get Porthole working but could spend some more time troubleshooting. Decided that I preferred ScreenSharing and running Last.fm over my Boehinger USB audio than putting up with the skipping/distortion from Airplay/Airfoil/Porthole whenever the network was saturated.
There are currently no troubleshooting comments. If you are experiencing a problem with this app, please post a comment.
