Did anyone proof this update? The What's new section makes it look like it added a bunch of bugs, except for the last item... Zoom does not work, keyboard combos stop working, cannot save, all layers saved converged, even when deselected, etc., etc., etc.

Also, I thought Adobe CC apps required 10.7 or later? Can people on 10.6.8 finally use Adobe CC apps?

Most apps work fine on 10.6.8, including Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, Dreamweaver CC, Flash CC, InCopy CC, InDesign CC, Muse CC, Audition CC and more. Adobe just doesn't advertise it. The only tools that don't work are video apps (Premiere CC, After Effects CC) and some of the dinky complimentary tools ("Edge Reflow CC", etc).

"Illustrator does not launch if a previous update (17.0.1) was applied."

I can confirm that AI will not launch on 10.6.8 after this (17.0.1) update.

I will test this newer (even buggier?) version later and report back.

@Dualie

17.0.1 worked fine for me on 10.6.8 and 17.0.2 does too.

Unfortunately, this update does not fix the launching problem for me. Oddly, all other CC apps work just fine. Even uninstalling and re-installing AI does not fix the issue. Nor does launching it in Safe Mode. I will try later with a clean install of 10.6.8.

I don't like the renting software scheme that Adobe has started. I'd rather buy the software and possibly pay a small monthly fee for future upgrades.

I say this having worked in the software industry for a few decades.

Why does there need to be a monthly fee? Why don't they just make money by adding good features? The fee would only lessen the incentive to keep adding those features.

I do about 80% of my logo design work in Adobe Illustrator CC, and I start in Illustrator for all of the initial designs of my commercial typefaces that are marketed by FontHaus and Agfa Monotype. Illustrator has been one my most indispensable design tools. There are many less expensive alternatives, but none as feature rich.

I have never liked illustrator much. Always thought FreeHand was way better. I don't think it is realistic to revive FreeHand due to how long ago it has been killed off.

Bohemian Coding's Sketch looks really interesting and not bloated. I will be keeping a really close eye on that app. It does not make sense for Adobe to be charging this much for software this bad.

To all developers of vector applications, it's time to make all your means to give us a true alternative to Illustrator, regardless of your price, it will still be much less than the Adobe racket!

I have used Illustrator since the mid-1990s — before blends were a click away, and you had to create 2 layers. So, I know this software inside and out. But despite all that, avoid Adobe Applications if you can. Put your money into a better company, and let’s sink this floating excrement ship of a company, because Adobe getting worse even after creating a de-facto monopoly. Their products used to work, but now they are just work.

Adobe’s entire suite is a nightmare to install on a modern file system (read “case-sensitive”) — which I knew, and Adobe’s tech support is not staffed by actual technicians, so they were unable to help me. They told me I could install it on another Hard Drive, even after I told them, I am on a laptop, and I didn’t feel like rebuilding my tuned system for one ill-behaved program. I eventually had to jury rig it into place myself, thanks to a bit of understand of what files were blocking me from running the app. But every launch the App complains that my install is damaged and that I need to reinstall it. It still likes to crash randomly, so save often. I have decided to look for something else, after the current project I purchased it for is complete.

Adobe treats paying customers like criminals or slaves because they have a monopoly on the pro-layout (vector & bitmap) market. It doesn’t matter if you spent $600 on the app. I lost 10 billable hours (over half was spent dealing with various clueless Adobe Tech Support Personnel) thanks to Adobe’s callous behavior toward me when I asked them questions above their technical support departments understanding. Even their supervisor told me to make my library writable to everyone. She didn’t know what chmod meant (a very old, very basic UNIX command that controls permissions). She asked me to be more specific when I asked her is she meant “chmod 777?” I kid you not. I recommend anyone that doesn’t know Illustrator go find something else, and hopefully the company behind that vector program will get enough sales to advance the feature set.

This is the last time I ever purchase anything from Adobe, I think there is a huge market for a more user friendly and competent vector program because Adobe has abandoned its users because they can as long as people still buy their products.

A couple of "pointless new capabilities" does not a major update make. I wish they'd spent some time fixing up the UI. Compared to CS5, those palettes are obese.

Somebody, please bring FreeHand back. I don't need Photoshop. But I need an alternative to Illustrator. During my entire existence, I'll never pay a subscription fee to Microsoft for Office or Adobe for Illustrator or to Symantec for their antivirus software. La vida no es facil. My Spanish teacher was right after all.

Hi Murryfax,

The 15.02 update installed fine for me, but I have seen reports of others having problems. If you have HTML5 Pack for Illustrator installed or Suitcase Fusion 3, they may be causing a conflict. I can't remember the links for fixing the Suitcase Fusion problem, but here's a link that addresses the HTML5 Pack for Illustrator issue:

http://forums.adobe.com/message/3312782?tstart=0

Basically, the advice is to uninstall the pack (replace the original plug-ins) before installing the 15.0.2 update. Posters #5 and #6 in the thread gave the most helpful tips. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I do have Suitcase, but uninstalling it does not help, nor does uninstalling other extra plugins. Besides, the update to Photoshop which came today installs without any problem, in spite of the Suitcase plugin. Other suggestions, anybody?

Sorry to hear you're still having problems, Murryfax. I found another thread that might help you:

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/759957?start=50&tstart=0

Another helpful piece of advice from that thread is to completely uninstall and reinstall Illustrator, then apply both the 15.01 and 15.02 updates -- it sucks, I know, but several people have reported success by doing that.

Failing that, a user in the aforementioned thread named bhatnaga is personally helping people resolve their issue if you post a log file. Follow his/her instructions on page 2, post #50.

Thanks again. My problem is resolved. I had forgotten all about HTML5 Pack, but I did have it installed, and I found help in the forum thread you indicated the first time - also installing first 15.0.1.
