This app had potential to be the best and lightest Mac Mail Client. Sadly after google acquired the company, updates coming out very rarely.

If you're looking for another IMAP client after Sparrow, give MailMate a try! It is extremely fast, has some killer views (Conversation View is one), and has a really fast and flexible search function.

Under 10.8.1 with 2 accounts configured in Sparrow (one with a few thousand emails, one with a couple hundred), processor usage spikes to 99.9% (for Sparrow) and while the app is responsive during this time, it cannot be quit without force quitting.

This is under 1.6.3... 1.6.4 contains "bug fixes" that might resolve this, but it's not yet in the Mac App Store and it seems the MAS releases in general lag about 2-3 weeks behind the ordinary updates, which is pretty annoying for a bug like this one.

I have this exact same problem on my Mac Pro (but not on my Macbook Pro). Each has the same version of 10.8.3.

I have come to the conclusion that Google products have a rotten odor. Including Google Drive, this miserable app,and Music Player which is totally unnecessary. Most or all of their products are dedicated to their own interests not OURS!

What a shame. Why does Google do that? It just makes people hate Google. Now they'll put the amazing designers of Sparrow to work on some lame project that no one will ever use.

Agreed. It's time for the Google monopoly to be broken up but they've paid off the politicians, so I doubt that'll happen anytime soon. Google is the new Microsoft. Harmful to consumers and small business owners everywhere. They are now using web.com to offer bait and switch "free" websites in an effort to undercut small business web developers and put them out of business as well. Google is scum.

Yes, *sigh*, it's a shame that cool mail apps like Sparrow don't have a feasible revenue model to continue in business. I'm very sorry cuz I really like Sparrow (though it does still have minor annoyances that haven't been fixed and probably won't be fixed now).

Thank goodness there's still Mailplane to fall back on, and it remains the best g-mail app available. Many thanks to Reuben for keeping up the good fight for better software.

Note: I don't keep any emails on my hard drive, downloading attachments only, so you see Mailplane really is perfect for me! I hope other developers will continue to innovate in the mail client apps field.

Well Tomeg got a point, only client left to use now is Gmail itself and Mailplane is doing that just a little easier.

I use multiple domains that sends with their own SMTP thru Gmail, this can't be set up in Apple Mail, Postbox, Thunderbird etc, but was out of the box in Sparrow.

Lets hope they just rebrand Sparrow to a Gmail Client of their own.

It was good while it lasted, but I as a rule of thumb try and avoid Google products. So thanks Google...

Never the less Apple Mail is great and looks beautiful in Lion/Mountain Lion and has all the features I need so no major harm done.

Same to see another promising small project get eaten by corporate giants (Google in particular)

I never got used to the mail client from Apple or any other company for that better. They all seem to use a UI, that looks like it has never changed since 1998. Who still marks his mails "as read" these days? I need to organise my mails so I can find them later, if I have to. Sparrow has a great UI in my opinion, it's fast, looks good and everything is super smooth.

BTW: Sparrow has been updates (bugfixes only): Version 1.6.4 (1176)

Umm for one I do mark my mail as read...
Sparrows UI is great sure but it's not necessarily the most feature packed email client.

I don't know where you have been living but the email client (Apple Mail) in Lion/Mountain Lion is beautiful too and doesn't look like it hasn't changed since 1998!

Great! Now I can't update to 1.6.4 without the advertisements because you need a license file and I bought 1.6.3 from the App Store, which will take a few months to approve, if ever. Contacted the former developer, but you know how that will turn out.

Seeing that on App Store they have not 1.6.1 ... I don't know if it's a problem for 1.6 only or what else, but today I don't get emails from GMail. I mean, if I check on Web-GMail I see as usually my new emails,.. but Sparrow doesn't get them (???). Even forcing email check.
Very strange, it's the first time I get this kind of problem ... and it's a big problem I hope will be fixed. For me at least.

Current version does not send messages.

"Connection to Gmail could not be established. Either your connection is not available or Gmail is unavailable. Please, retry later."

The message is a lie. It makes no sense, because it can quite easily receive mail and it also saves as drafts the messages it supposedly can't send because of a connection issue with Gmail.

Raaa.. I'm so pissed, sorry to say it so bluntly, but I just spent an hour writing a message and this program, although it looks very neat sent.. only half of it !! There are certain precaution one should take when using beta programs that I'm thinking of too late... Sorry, but this won't happen twice, I'll stick to the normal Gmail.
