My first thought when I saw support for Carddav sync was - wow, great, I can save some money I pay every year to Memotoo ($15 for each of my 3 yahoo email accounts per year).

Memotoo is great, no complains about them, but I am always concerned about giving my password to them. Even though Memotoo Caldav accepts Yahoo dedicated 3rd party app password, the Carddav function requires Yahoo password, which essentially means I have to hand out my email password to Memotoo.

So seeing SyncMage could be replacement was comforting. But even though the app looks great and I can appreciate the amount of effort the developer puts in, there are still limitations.

I discovered soon, you actually only support 1 single email account. Adding multiple accounts would result in merging all contacts together. That's not practical since the first reason for keeping separate accounts is to have different address books and calendars. There is probably minority of people who keep 2 email addresses separately and have 1 address book (can be addressed through email alias and filter rules).

So I will sit back and wait till you add support for multiple Carddav and Caldav accounts. The way I would expect is SyncMate can see separate local address books and calendars (or it creates one for each separate Yahoo or Google account).

That way things stay nice and clean without issues.

Obviously - You may want to deal with the issue of checking 2 Carddav Yahoo accounts at the same time, as it sometimes could give error, so it should be done one after the other. Memotoo resolves this by offering multiple server addresses for sync with them.

Anyways, I hope to see this option in Syncmate in the near future.

Although syncmate claims to support MTP over usb, the free version failed on my Nokia 5230. XNJB and Android File Transfer both could access my Nokia and transfer files. I haven't tested the other features yet. Seems to be the only solution to sync the address book under 10.9 directly with a Mac.

Thank you for your feedback. MTP devices supported only in the Expert version. Free version doesn't allow you to sync folders and media files on any devices.

The knowledge base recommends " to check if your device can be connected to your Mac and recognized by SyncMate prior upgrading to Expert" . Quite impossible, if MTP is supported only on the expert edition. At least it should be possible to access files or give some feedback.

Free version gives you the ability to check if your device is compatible with SyncMate. But to use folder/media sync you have to upgrade to Expert.

Sorry for the inconveniences. Sync Service that SyncMate used for information exchange got disabled in 10.9. Our developers are designing proprietary sync technology. It's not a regular bug fix, but the whole new module. We are working on the solution since first betas, and we apologize that it takes a lot of time.

I do not understand: ‘what’s new’ refers to issues in 10.9, but compatibility is up to 10.8.5. If current version is NOT compatible with Mavs, why are Mavs improvements quoted?
burypromote
Eltima Software (developer) replied on 08 Nov 2013
These are not improvements but fixes. Many users updated to Mavericks and these fixes prevent crashing and lock unavailable plugins for Mavericks users.

The biggest problem is that Sumsung butchers the MTP library which comes with Android resulting in it being incompatible with a whole host of third party libmtp based applications. Got an HTC One - the benefit being the implementation of MTP enables more than just their own sync tool.

Slow, cumbersome and unreliable – but without feasible alternative if you want to sync an Android device.

I use SyncMate to sync my Mac with my Nexus 7 Android tablet (or better: "used", since the tablet is broken now). My experiences are unfortunately rather mixed.

First of all: SyncMate requires a companion app running on the Android device. That's not a problem per se, but in my experience, that app is rather crash prone, slow to react (it takes sometimes a couple of minutes until it realises it is connected to my Mac) and sometimes doesn't recognise wifi connections at all. (USB connection are more reliable.)

Bookmarks, contacts and calendars do sync quickly and usually without many problems, but also not too reliably. More often than not, it takes at least two syncs until all data are actually transferred.

Photo syncing doesn't work at all for me, since I use Aperture on my Mac – which SyncMate does not support at all (only iPhoto).

Movie syncing is pretty much a disaster. Offering the option to transcode movies to a more suitable format for the tablet is a fine idea, but unfortunately this conversion takes ages and is done significantly faster with dedicated programs. But even without conversion, transferring movies is painfully slow. For a single 1 GB movie file that can easily copied over to the tablet with for instance the Android File Transfer app within 30 seconds or so, SyncMate takes 30 minutes or more.

Syncing other files is possible (by syncing folders), but somewhat cumbersome to set up. On the plus side, the transfer seems to work relatively fast and without too many problems.

Mounting the Android tablet as a volume on the Mac does not seem to work at all (although offered as an option).

If there were an actual alternative to SyncMate to sync an Android device with a Mac, I would strongly recommend this alternative. But there's none, so SyncMate is more or less the only solution right now.

Are you using iCloud? Most probably, the issue is related to the fact that iCloud keeps all new data on your Mac only virtually. Thus prior to syncing your device with Mac, you need to perform a successful sync of your information with iCloud using SyncMate. Once you sync data with local "On My Mac" account, you will be able to subsequently sync it with your device.

And if you still need to keep data in your iCloud account, you can do this with SyncMate also - follow this link for additional information http://tinyurl.com/c95og25

Feel free to contact me directly at alex.taylor@eltima.com if any questions, I will assist.

The most possible reason of the issue you've encountered is Android optimization peculiarities for Samsung Galaxy S3 model. We are aware of these difficulties and have already fixed them in the latest release of SyncMate. Could you please make sure that you are using the latest released version of the software (4.0.1832). If the issue persists, please supply our Support team (support@eltima.com) with the following details, so we could take a closer look at the issue:

1. SyncMate diagnostic report (feedback). Read the instruction on how to send report to technical support:
http://wiki.eltima.com/knowledge-base/syncmate/report.html

2. In feedback comment field, please specify the following:
~ The device you are trying to sync with. Its exact name and model.
~ What type of data are you trying to sync?
~ The exact sequence of your actions, so we would be able to reproduce the issue on our side.

After a lot of troubleshooting (complete OS install), have found this software to be the cause of this.

@ WILLOWMAC -

Please, try to perform the following:

1. Connect your camera to your Mac and make sure that your camera is in PictBridge mode.

2. Launch ImageCapture manually and see if your camera is recognized. Please, let us know the result(support @ eltima . com).

3. If ImageCapture doesn't recognize your device even after you launch ImageCapture manually, please, try to disable USB module in SyncMate while working with ImageCapture ("Enable/Disable USB module" button in SyncMate preferences - http://wiki.eltima.com/user-guides/syncmate-mac-os/main-menu.html)

I can't get SyncMate to recognise my imate JAMin.
If I connect the JAMin via USB while Syncmate is open, nothing happens, as if it doesn't recognise it at all.

But if Synmcate isn't open when I connect the JAMin via USB, the system seems to recognise a windows mobile device and Syncmate automatically opens.

But like in the first instance, after Syncmate opens nothing else happens, as if the phone wasn't connected at all.

And in both cases the phone doesn't do anything at all (other than start charging via USB)

Still searching around for a fix but if anyone knows, advice would be appreciated!
