I used this on and off a year or so ago, and thought I'd check it again just to use a player to keep language-learning tracks away from my general music collection (nothing worse than shuffling to one of those when on a run to break rhythm!), and what can I say? Pure garbage. #1 it requested a login... WTF? #2 "New account" would not sync either with Face book not with Twitter accounts, despite these being options. And an account linked with neither, but just a regular email, address returned "server not found". Fuck this for a game of soldiers. The command-line player cmus (cmus.github.io/) was easier to install and use than this! -1 star

I don't what changed, but for some reason many of the songs DT would export to my USB drive for use in my Jeep began showing up on the display with %20 (aka space) in the file names. At first I thought my iTunes music folder had been hosed, but I found the files in iTunes were just fine. After some testing I found the problem is with DT. So it's now been removed. Replaced with Export for iTunes.

Well, it's not a good sign that the app hasn't been updated in four years. Still worse, it turns out that it will create dupes in its library. The only way to avoid that is to compress/hide the .xml version of your iTunes library; of course your iTunes needs that, so you can't operate both doubleTwist and iTunes together in any normal fashion. It will also scan your whole hard drive if you aren't quick about excluding specific directories. I can't see any way to turn off automatic scanning of iPhoto, movies, podcasts, or other things I want doubleTwist to leave alone. The Mac version of their desktop app badly needs work.

doubleTwist scanned all drives connected to my computer when it started up. I then went to preferences and excluded folders and the external hard-drive from future indexing, just keeping the music files I wanted. It then told me that those files already scanned would need to be manually removed. I started on my external hard-drive, removing them from doubleTwist and noticed something odd. It didn't just remove the files from the program, but deleted them outright. Not moved to Trash, but deleted, gone forever. Support's response was little more than 'that's what the program does'.

I download doubleTwist and within 5 minutes it had deleted all the media files on my exernal hard-drive, simply by following its instructions. Not moved to trash, but gone instantly. This program is terrible and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

No change whatsoever, as 3.2.1 cam out in May 2012. That's over a year with no development at all... so I suggest you look for something else.

Just an update. All developement on the desktop app has been at a dead stop for a long time. It still has many of its major past problems and limitations, though I haven't seen the crashes and locks that others report. I won't reiterate its limitations and misleads, as others herein have already done so. Development has moved over to DT for Android, and now has pushed on to DTA Pro for a price. And yet there's little to no upgrade option for those of us who already paid for the Airsync or other add ons now included in DT Pro. So if we want a few of the new features in that, we end up paying for AirSync, etc. all over again. This dev team is quickly becoming as notorious as others using GetSatisfaction forums for support, where users are tossed into a sea of others to often fend for themselves. I would suggest anything buying anything the uses the GS web system to think twice, even if the app has good ratings outside of its own site (and DT does not). Now I'll see if MacUpdate actually takes my post since the last 4 recent ones are no longer showing up.

Just thought anyone else who is stupid enough to buy this thinking that it will sync your photo from your android.. it will not . I read on the support forum that someone asked. how to do it the dev said. OH that is being tested now and will be out in the next version. here is the thing on the frontpage of the website it says this "Wirelessly sync your iTunes playlists, photos and videos with your Android phone using your home Wi-Fi network." Yes.. but it doesn’t do it with this version that is out now. I guess this Wanker OF A DEV. just forgot to say that before people buy it from the market place. and anyway it sucks. crashed 2 times. Now I am using the missing sync.. it never crashes on me at least running my mac.. ugly interface, webpage is a total mess. but if you buy it it will work and does everything and more then it says it will before you buy from this dev. check it out. Shame on your dev. you should tell people up front it does not support photo from tel to computer.. WANKER. you are.. such a WANKER. give me my money back

I was looking for an app to sync iTunes to my Android phone (EVO 4G) and I thought DoubleTwist was it. It has a nice interface that looks like iTunes however, it does not show any Smart Playlists that you have created and thus cannot sync them to your phone. THis is a HUGE drawback. It will let you create new playlists but who wants to recreate all their smart playlists? Instead, go to the Android App Market and get iSyncr for Mac. It allows you to easily sync any and all of your playlist including the smart playlists. For $1 more you can get iSyncr WiFI and sync everything wirelessly- it works like a dream -much better than DoubleTwist. DoubleTwist isn't going to live up to other apps available until it fixes some major issues including the playlists, syncing photos, converting videos (takes forever to sync one video). Try it out and you'll see what I mean. I've deleted it off my Mac and my EVO and am sticking with iSyncr for Mac.

Doubletwist is a very cool concept. It has just the right set of features and it is very cool to be able to use non-proprietary software to sync a multitude of devices. I have tried to use doubletwist on a few Mac laptops, and it is just not stable enough for prime time. Constant freeze ups, and glacial file transfer speeds make it unusable unfortunately. I will keep it installed, and I will be looking for future updates. The one thing missing other than overall stability is a way to capture play counts.

Freezes up constantly giving the beachball of death for long periods of time. While I enjoy many of the features if it is at the cost of having the beachball of death, I would rather just have a simple program to sync my itunes instead of having it be bloated like itunes.

This was a good app I did use it here and there but I noticed when drag and dropping files on to my phone the app copies over folders thus when the phone player is trying to play music it can not, simply because of the folders, you have to select a folder open it and then play a song file! Is there a way to simply select the song from itunes and just have that song file rather than its folder? Also due to itunes DRM protection or whatever some songs were not transferred over but when I dragged the files into the phone without using doubletwist it does it without any problems. I now have decided not use this app unfortunately was a good app when it worked. My phone by the way is a Nokia 6700 classic!

This app refused to recognise any device I attached (Android G2, HTC Windows Mobile). It also consumed large amounts of CPU and memory, and spawned a syslogd task that gradually took over my system with memory consumption until I force-quit it with Activity Monitor. Very strange.
