Sad piece of software from a deeply sad company. I wouldn't consider it an alpha release, but apparently adobe only cares about your money, so instead of trying to bring this to a beta stage (with some bug fixes), they repack it in the CS5 version and try to sell it to you again, same old garbage. It crashes continuously on my Snow Leopard so I had to look around for alternatives and I've recently found a little gem called DrawIt from Bohemian Coding, it costs close to nothing and it is growing to become a valid alternative to fireworks. I really hope Adobe continues to go forward with their (flash only focused) business strategy of a second (or even) third class software company (or should I say marketing) to see them out of business soon. Ps. I still remember when macromedia was innovating web design.

Adobe bought out Macromedia so they have no strong competition and now they kill Fireworks off after buying it. This just goes to show how all these so-called "too big to fail" corporations hurt consumers and restrict us as Americans. Now most of the rest of their apps use a RENTAL model. Shantanu Narayen should be fired. Like most other longtime Adobe customers, I am sickened by Adobe's greed with their Creative Cloud subscription model. The petition against it is over 30,000 sigs so far... https://www.change.org/petitions/adobe-systems-incorporated-eliminate-the-mandatory-creative-cloud-subscription-model I would be ashamed to work for Adobe. What a scummy corporation they've become. I'm saddened that I helped build them over the years with my money.

While it could use some improvement in terms of performance, along with a bit of UI love...I find Fireworks to be an incredible app and when it comes to web design, to this day, there simply is no application that can match it in terms of features and overall workflow. I switched from doing websites in Photoshop to doing them in Fireworks and I can't imagine doing it otherwise now.

WOW, they fix CS4 bugs AFTER releasing CS5. I abandoned Fireworks after upgrading to CS4 and Snow Leopard, since it was so buggy. I'll update FW and put it through it's paces, but Adobe lost me as a Fireworks user when they didn't address stability issues -- I have to be able to rely on software. Instead, I've reverted to old school -- Illustrator + Photoshop -- as both apps are always well supported by Adobe.

I'm actually a little surprised that they didn't decide to fix these bugs only in CS5.

The way it behaves now I would not even look at it if it were a $50 shareware. This is how pathetic it is at this point. I cannot believe Adobe is doing this to its Mac customers. That should s'go directly to court. The only good thing I use it for at this point is for crunching jpg's.

As a Fireworks MX user, I was curious to see if the new 2004 upgrade was worth going for...and was sorely disappointed. Small annoying glitches, topped off by erratic mouse selection (which I checked against the finder and last years MX version) told me that I made the right decision not to upgrade. A shame...because there was a couple of improvements I liked the sound of. If you've already got MX, then, IMO, it's not worth upgrading.

While this squashes some complete showstopper bugs in this release, it is still slow as a sleepy pig and full of other bugs. Maybe by 7.0.5 I will begin to feel like my upgrqade xepentidure for this was worthwhile. Or maybe not.
