Create guilloche illustration designs.

Overview

Excentro is an easy-to-use yet advanced tool that can create guilloche designs such as backgrounds, borders, or rosettes.

The guilloches are vintage design elements that were frequently used for anti-counterfeiting security purposes on banknotes, passports, checks, and certificates over the past two hundred years. Even if today the main part of security technology lies in holograms, special papers or tricky inks, it is too early to say that the days of guilloche designs are over. They can still be used to prevent the counterfeiting of products that do not require the highest level of security (e.g., theater tickets, diplomas, or gift certificates). Or, they can just be used to decorate and add some aesthetic value to a product giving it a 'money-like' look and value.

What's new in Excentro

Version 1.9.26:
  • Addition of clipping masks and clipping stroke masks as a convenience feature
  • Images for the bas-relief effect can now be individually selected

While a cool program, $400 seems pretty steep for something used for such a narrow purpose considering you can buy Illustrator for $500.

Excentro is pricey and it takes a while to get used with the interface. But except for this, the application is simply brilliant. Guilloche is a fine art and Excentro is the only tool I know to help on its creation.

Your comparison is not fair. I'm not sure you can do similar tasks in Illustrator. And there is a lite version which is suffiscient to make interesting designs at $25.

The demo version is quite usable in that the designs can be exported in Illustrator format. You can then import them into vector programs which you need to do any way to add colour effects What you can't do is save in the program's native format. It is worth while to explore this program for an different way in making designs

Should release two versions - a 'lite' cut-down version for artist's/enthusiasts/hobbyists etc,... and another for the affluent commercial peeps.

One of the most fascinating (and well written!) Macintosh applications that I've seen in a long time. Incredible documentation! Easy to use with the tutorials, yet potentially incredibly deep. Basically free and not crippled (for occasional use.) Provides fodder for left AND right sides of the brain.
