Merlin is the only native network-based collaborative Project Management solution for Mac OS X.

This version offers many features propelling Merlin to the top of Mac OS X professional project management software.

Here are some of the main highlights in Merlin 2:
  • Merlin has now a Web module which is included in this version of Merlin. The following browsers are supported: Safari 3, Firefox 2.0+ and Internet Explorer 7.0
  • Merlin now supports special OS X 10.7 features like full screen and restoring last edited files.
What's New
Version 2.9.2:

New features:

  • Merlin und Merlin Server work now under OS X 10.9 as well.
  • Merlin supports the Tags of Mavericks in the file save dialog.
Bug fixes:
  • The synchronization between Merlin and Calendar is reimplemented for OS X 10.9 Mavericks. The features are the same, but with one exception: Changes made in the Calendar can not synchronized back to Merlin under OS X 10.9. In OS X 10.8 and earlier, this is still possible.
  • Changing between the standard and Merlin print dialog under 10.8 could lead to an exception.
  • Under special combinations of countries and languages, Merlin could not handle duration units properly.
  • Resources from an LDAP directory could not be displayed in Merlin correctly.
  • Some exceptions of the resource working times would not get exported into MS Project XML.
  • A few error messages and notifications were misleading.
  • Some project templates and reports are revised.
  • Fixed some translation issues and typos.
  • The German and English help files are updated.
Version 2.9.2:

There still seem to be some issues with OS X 10.9.
Moving (dragging) items on the timeline doesn't work.
The drop-downs for item completion look weird.

Really looks quite nice. If integration with TeamworkPM.net were possible, this would be a fantastic solution. Teamwork has proven to be the best comprehensive solution we've found so far for disparate teams, but man I would die to have a native OS X solution that could integrate into our workflow.

I use Merlin since years.
There a mayor updates to fix problems or open new interfaces to third parties. The support is much better than average in the IT-area.
Other companies tried to copy Merlin or introduced "Pad"-Version (more as a viewer or not stable) but Merlin is still the dominating Mac-PM software for Pro's.

A bit too expensive, and very seldom get updated.

would be nice a bit more updates /features for a software that costs 200$. i switched to Fast Track due to this as merlin felt "old" after 2 years and basically no updates except 1 small fix.

Prior to today's fix, these have been the improvements within the last 2 years:
Resolved Issues in Merlin

Under Mac OS 10.7, scrolling in the Gantt chart could result in a blurry time ruler.
In some configurations it could take a long time to save changes.
Under Mac OS 10.7, files extracted from file elements had a wrong creation date.
Sometimes approved budgets were not refreshed correctly when linked projects were loaded.
Approved budgets could not be deleted.
Under Mac OS 10.7, the print preview was not centered correctly.
Copying activities with attached events could lead to a crash.

Resolved Issues in Merlin Web

Under some circumstances, wrong calendar weeks were displayed in the time ruler.
Entering duration units within resource rates did not work correctly.

Resolved Issues in Merlin Server

Under Mac OS 10.7, sharing projects with special characters in their filenames was not possible.

New Features in Merlin

NovaMind 5 files can be imported now.
In Merlin lost licenses can be requested now.

Resolved Issues in Merlin

MindManager files exported from Merlin could not be opend by MindManager 9 under Windows.
Importing of CSV files could mess up when some key fields were empty.
Completed milestones from OmniPlan 1 were not completed after import in Merlin.
The import of contacts from LDAP servers did not work correctly.

Resolved Issues in Merlin Web

Projects containing an UniCode linebreak in texfields could not be displayed in the the web. Printing did not work properly.

This is the best. I've tried several others including OmniPlan. This is the best that I had found.

I'm not going to review or rate Merlin because I haven't used it in many years (I think 2006 was the last time I used it). At the time, there really wasn't a project management app for the Mac that had all the features I needed, so I ended up going with MS Project running on Windows in Virtual PC. It was barbaric, but it worked.

As I was trying all the different Mac PM apps, I came across Merlin. The interface was terrific, the software was intuitive, and the support was great…no wait, it was better than that. The support was awesome.

The only reason I didn't end up using Merlin as my main PM app was because at that time it didn't have resource leveling, which was an absolute requirement for me. (In checking the current user guide, I see that resource leveling is now included in Merlin.)

But even without resource leveling, Merlin was so easy to use and created such great looking graphics that I used it for my project status reports. And now that it has resource leveling, if I needed a PM app, I'd use Merlin in a heartbeat based on my earlier experience.

Very good application, but I only had use for it once. So if someone is interested in a license please feel free to write to onemerlinlicenseforsale@googlemail.com .
It's an EDU license, use for commercial projects is permitted whether you're a student or not anymore.

  • Dynamic Planning Mode
Activities which haven't started yet can be automatically moved to the current date. This is great news for devotees of Agile Project Management.
  • Bi-directional Synchronization with iCal
Changes in Merlin are reflected in iCal and vice versa. You can also sync specific resources in a separate calendar.
  • Enhanced Financial and Cost Models
You can now compare planned vs. actual costs with the ability to determine accruals per cost entry.
