IP Scanner scans your local area network to determine the identity of all machines and internet devices on the LAN. Powerful results, yet easy and intuitive to use. Runs on OS X 10.4 and above. Free to use on small networks (up to 6 devices) and $29.99 for larger networks.
IP Scanner is designed to allow you to customize your scan results; once a device has been identified, you may assign it a custom icon and name to more easily recognize it at a glance.

What's New
Version 2.99:
support for manually adding static devices (e.g., to access a remote device via VNC, RDP, or Ping directly from IP Scanner, even if that device is not currently on your local network)
support for finding and identifying Nest thermostats
Current version (i.e. 2.96) is worse than the previous one. It is buggy (give you incorrect MAC numbers) and slow (takes forever to find wireless smart devices, if it finds it at all).
@MacUpdate Warren: Dear Warren, again to let you know that MU IP Scanner 2.95 still points to v2.93 @04:40 GMT 00:00; perhaps the Developers site could a little more updated because I tried to DL it from there too w/o success, take a look and let me know. I own IP Scanner both for the iPhone and for OS X, GREAT products BTW. I do not blame the Developer for the "App Store" success, good move; but you will agree with me that it would be unfair for me to "re-purchase" it ($19.99) to get the latest version. My idea: if "10base-t interactive" PayPals me a credit of $19.99 I will purchase it again through the App Store. I understand that this is a "rhetorical or philosophical" idea/question, but I would like to know your opinion on this kind of situations since I'm a frequent buyer of MU bundles. Kind regards, Michael Palacio from Argentina
Easily shows 6 devices on the net (wireless or wired), for more you need to pay. On App Store it costs $10, which is still more than its worth since there is not much that you can do but to see and get some limited info about the machines on the net. In particular it doesn't tell you if those devices are actually active ...

If, when you launch the app, your browser is redirected to a German youtube clip, it means you are using a pirated serial number! The app will still work, but consider buying a license at some point!
Other notable features:
Sort network list by device name, IP address, MAC address or Last Seen
Get an overview of the current network or view changes over time in the 'cumulative mode'
Highly configurable display - don't need to see the MAC address column…don't display it! Text too small…make it larger!
Double-click a device to obtain more information and to customize its appearance; assign custom icons based on MAC address or IP number
Add devices you know to a whitelist to better highlight new/unknown ones
Right-click a device to initiate Ping or port scans
Local network segments are scanned automatically; custom ranges may be added manually
