Firewall and identity-protection software.

Overview

NetBarrier X9 is a professional-grade firewall and identity-protection application.

  • Active application list easily identifies applications using bandwidth as well as incoming vs. outgoing bandwidth for each application
  • Logical default profiles for the different kinds of networks you connect to (home, public, and work)
  • Automatic profile switching detects when the network connection changes and makes it easy to select a new profile
  • Easily blocks/allows connections for specific local devices
  • Easily configures primary network channels to/from the Internet and to/from the local network
  • Full-time application activity monitoring for anti-spyware measures
  • Helps identify rogue applications accessing the Internet to act as zombies, expose your confidential information, or act as backdoors into your computer
  • Automatic application activity notification whenever an application is trying to do something on the network (take simple actions to allow or deny the application to run or to interact with specific domains or local devices)

Note: Price shown here is for Net Barrier and Virus Barrier together in the Internet Security X9 bundle.

I've recently bought netbarrier from Intego and I think it's a must because it's not only a classic firewall, it's a "bundle" of several tiny apps... First, it's a two-way firewall that can blocks or allows incoming or outgoing connections and detects any spyware attempt to connect the internet from your computer. You can also protect your data by encrypting any credit card numbers or passwords, define some rules when you are surfing the web, monitor the internet traffic by application or port, check the wifi hotspot status near you and cleans your browsers with caches, cookies, history, bookmark with washing machine I'm very satisfied about this product and I recommend it if you're not happy with the OSX built-in firewall

I have used it for many years, but I recently tried Bitdefender and it does not slow the system as did the Antivirus suite did from Intego. Also, it did not catch all the trojans in email that Bitdefender did.

v10.9.6 was released in November, 2018. If you own NetBarrier X9, you most likely already have this update.

Excellent product. Uninstalled because my subscription was up and I had decided to go with the Bitdefender Box 2 to cover all of my online devices instead.

Detailed malware detection test results are regularly posted here for nearly 2 dozen products, free and paid: http://securityspread.com/detection-rate-results/ These are very detailed, showing EXACTLY by name for each malware/virus if it is detected or not, for each product, then products are ranked 95%, 85%, 75% etc based on detection rates. Historical results are maintained so you can compare over time, and you do see product results change with each test (done every month to every 3 months depending on whether there are any new reported malware in the field, and a sample can be obtained for testing). I've done a bit of research on the site and tester, to make sure it was not one of those 'sponsored' sites by a vendor that are made to appear as objective, neutral reviews. The fact that the product rankings change constantly AND that the results are very specific and listed in detail, further support that this site and the tester are very objective. In fact this is exactly the kind of site and test results, that vendors DON'T want you to see, even the ones that do well on the test (because no product is 100%). I am posting this to support the Mac Community. When we are all better informed when it comes to this important area of security in this day of cyber threats, we all benefit. Education and information is the best defense, (as with so many things in life). For example, if someone uses MacKeeper because they don't know better, then in some ways the community failed for not getting the word out. If after doing some research and being advised not to use MacKeeper, someone still chooses to do so, then you can't help that, but hopefully it wasn't because there wasn't information available. My aim is not to support or dissuade anyone about a particular product, you pick / use or don't use whatever product you want, and live with the consequences, just remember that your decision can effect others, by virtue of whether you are part of stopping the spread, or being a part of it. I highly recommend you don't just look at the current results, but look at the past ones as well. You WILL see trends, with some products consistently doing well and others not so much, and some moving up and down. Remember, an A/V product rests on two main things, the scanning engine AND the malware database. A great engine can be crippled if the database is not updated in a timely manner. Conversely, a vendor that does maintain a current database might still not be effective if the program itself is buggy. This site only ONLY addresses virus detection results, it does not in general make any conclusions or post results regarding performance, installation, support, UI, etc.

I would not trust this review, posted by @tjekov37. I've been in the tech biz over 30 years, this review is a 'sponsored' review. the rankings are based on someone elses testing (AV-Test, from August 2014). The web page is full of buy links for Bitfender, which just "so happens' to be the top ranked product. isn't that just so convenient?

Folks really need to be careful about "review" sites; tech companies routinely 'hire' someone to do, quote, a 'review', then create a web site to publish the results.

A true unbiased review will state who did the review, why, the conditions of the testing and so on. Read the 'Who We Are' and 'What We Do' links on that page, total marketing BS speak. This company is paid to publish reviews which are really just advertising. The so called review on http://mac-antivirus-software-review.toptenreviews.com is just a sham, IMO.

Don't know whether this new version is compatible with Yosemite Developer Prevew 8 or not. in the case of Mavericks, Intego software cause Mavericks to crash and have all sort of problem until X8 releases in the second quarter of 2014, ling after Mavericks official release. This might happen again with Yosemite. No beta release so far. Other software vendor release beta for testing but not Intego. Have tried to email them on Yosemipte compatibility. The answer is do not upgrade to Yosemite developer preview and have to wait long after official OSX release Come on Intego, be more flexible and faster response to Apple release of OSX. Tell me whether this new version is compatible with Yosemite developer preview 8 or not

The latest update is not showing up in Check for Update in Netupdate of Intego X8. Have to download it from here of Intego web site to update. Why don't Intego push update to existing customers first? Or Intego just want new customer for more money. Don't be greedy like Adobe please

If the report of new versions for VirusBarrier & NetBarrier is correct - I have the same issue:

NetUpdate reports:
“Your Software is Up to Date” despite not marching the rev listed here.

As to another post here: A simple & understandable interface & metaphor is just fine, provided it fulfills that goal & still has the tools for more finely tuned firewall selection.

The simple truth is that many people have a marginal understanding of what their firewall setting are & reassuring blanket sets are not at all a bad idea. One for Office, One for Home & one for Internet Cafes, user configurable.

Can’t seem to add a new post, except as reply…

My suggestion:
Do not rush out to install NetBarrier from the standalone upgrade on the webpage.

its pretty easy to do, but I have one of the bundles. VirusBarrier went in OK.
NetBarrier went in OK until the restart.

I just did & the upgraded machine appears to be hung up at the apple screen. Might as well wait for the upgrade to come to you via NetUpdate.

It is simple, easy to use, and you do not need to be an Uber-Geek to understand whats going on. Other firewalls tend to be a bit confusing for the non-expert, who does not wish to spend time with firewall issues, other than be safe. The price may be shocking, but it is for 5 licenses bundled. This way they try to push users to buy their internet security bundle including anti-virus. The Intego anti-virus has failed me so miserably, I can't consider buying that ever again. But NetBarrier is good for me. Only 3.5 stars, because the standalone app does not live in the task/menu-bar, only the bundled app does, which IMHO is not OK.
