Antivirus and system optimizer.

Overview

Combo Cleaner is an antivirus and system optimizer created by a company called RCS LT. This application runs on Mac computers and works with all recent Mac operating systems, including Yosemite, El Capitan, and Sierra. This application takes a different approach as compared to traditional antivirus suites. As well as an antivirus function, Combo Cleaner includes a disk cleaner, big files finder, duplicate files finder, privacy scanner, and application uninstaller. This app can be used to clean computers of security threats and free up significant disk space cluttered by redundant files. Although Mac computers are thought to be more secure than Windows systems, a reliable antivirus solution is paramount.

This is not real freeware. It will cost you $29.99 for a year as soon as you want it to clean up what it has just found while scanning.

This article claims that a well-known "problem" is a very dangerous virus, and that Combo Cleaner is your saviour. Everywhere else I could find basesystem.dmg discussed it is considered harmless and probably part of macOS normal behaviour when using Time Machine?

Combo Cleaner is a dishonest product. I downloaded the free version and ran it. It ran for 2 days, slowing my system down significantly, and identified 24 potential virus threats. When I clicked on the link to list the threats, it informed me that I must upgrade to the premium version to view the threats. Additionally, the run included a search for duplicate files. But Combo Cleaner just identified lots of duplicate files in my git repositories. This seems to be a useless and naive search.

Had the weknow.ac problem in Safari. homepage stuck at weknow.ac search page. Malwarebytes found nothing wrong. Ran this and all it found was worthless caches and inert apps not affecting anything. It also saw its competitor Malwarebytes as a threat to be deleted. How do I get my money back.

I don't trust any product that is not up front with the price and does not tell you what it costs until you download it. FYI: The companies office is in Lithuania.

In this case, I don't trust MacUpdate either, who claims that it is freeware, but this is also the case for those who download it through Apple's App Store.

*WARNING* This 5-star review was made by new MU member who made this first-ever post the day he joined: Dec 18, 2016. To me, this looks like a blatant fraudulent review.

Thanks to Derekcurrie for pointing out that the user who reviewed this software may not be legitimate. I don't want to run software on my Mac that comes from a company I don't know. There are enough security issues with reputable software.

Meanwhile: Thank you for doing great research on this app! Needless to say, a security app whose website serves up adware or malware is well worth AVOIDING. This sounds like dire social engineering. Very naughty.
