This is a fantastic product in 2019. I don't know anything about the previous versions. I use 6.2.x. I watch my buddies use github's junky client and or telnet direct, what a nightmare they live in. GitKraken is a masterpiece of version control software. Branches are visual. You can SEE what just happen to a recent update with a nice interface. If you depend on Github for your source, this is THE best client.

This failed to connect to Github out of the box with a 1003 error. I emailed the company and got an autoreply. I never signed up on their site. Proceeded to get a bunch of marketing emails about all sorts of deals. Finally, support contacted me to tell me it's an "authorization error" but by then, I'd tossed Gitkraken into the trash with extreme prejudice. I complained to the tech support person about all the marketing email and that their marketing person was being way to aggressive. I had to explain that I'd never logged in or signed up for ANYTHING but sending them a support email. And that, in my opinion, did not give them permission to SPAM me to death. The support person "passed this feedback onto their team" but I still continue to get SPAM from them, which I'll continue to report to SENDGRID and their content provider. I haven't gotten to the point of buying a GITKRAKEN voodoo doll and pins because I don't have room on my shelf. All the congressmen, senators, SCOTUS justices, and every member of the Machurian Cantalope's badministration has a doll with pins stuck in it.

Crashes immediately upon opening, and has for several versions.

Another electron based crapware. Avoid like the plague. Tower and SourceTree are much better native options.

This app used to work somewhat ok. They release automatic updates for it, changing the interface and other "features", and now it is a piece of garbage that sits here saying, "Opening Repo" and won't do anything else. Tried reinstalling the app.

I surely would prefer any of my apps to be Electron/JS and Java free as well, but when alternatives are not so plentiful, I can only complain. If I understand correctly, Tower is great alternative, but there is no free use option. Now I'm downgrading GitKraken to 4 starts, not because of Electron, but because there is no GitLab integration, and SSH option is not good enough for me any more. And, so I've now switched to Java *sigh* based app SmartGit.

I use GitKraken to run (update, modify) a site on GitLab Pages. This git client works well with GitLab and I did not need to perform any sort of complicated integration with the service. UI and workflow are very pleasing and straightforward. The app is free. 3 PROS and cannot think of any CONS.
