1.3.3
25 September 2017

Makes dragging and dropping easier.

Overview

Dropshelf is a place to put things. Drag anything to the edge of the screen, and a shelf slides out. Drop files, images, text and links — whatever you want to keep handy, or move from one place to another.

Create shelves wherever there is space at the edge of the screen, including on multiple monitors. Dropshelf makes it easy to drag items between windows, tabs, full screen apps and spaces.

Some things you can do....
  • Create multiple shelves for different items
  • Paste clipboard contents directly to a shelf
  • Drop multiple files onto one shelf to combine them in one drag
  • Copy from the shelf to the clipboard
  • Drag images from Photos or web pages and have them "resolve" into a file
  • Put things in Dropshelf to keep for later shelves minimize when not in use
  • Reveal shelf items in Finder

Please note: files dropped on a shelf are stored by reference and continue to reside in their original file system location. Thus, Dropshelf cannot be used to "declutter" you desktop.

Dropshelf is integrated with OS X in several more thoughtful, workflow-enhancing ways — check out the User Guide for some tricks and tips.

Dropshelf is brilliant. Plan and simple. It shaves second of time off menial tasks, numerous time a day, which adds up in saved time. Even just before writing this review, I shelved multiple images from different folders then dragged them all onto Photoshop in one fell swoop. Lovin’ it. Occasionally, I help others setup and manage their Macs, and any time I try to drag files to the edge of their screen it’s missing, and I’m reminded how many time I rely in it throughout my day. Dropshelf has easily become an indispensable addition to my workflow. It’s tied with Alfred as my favourite OS X add-on.

I just bought Dropbox I like it a lot for managing my various snippets and such but I can't for some unknown reason get it to open on the right side.I put in my Preference in Preferences but it still opens on the left side of the screen. I wrote to the Developer and hope he replies .I am using Yosemite as my OS. It is great in design and soI am giving it 5 Stars. But in the position it is in I have trouble with it. I would prefer it opened on my right side of the desktop.

I have the opposite problem. I want it to open on the left, but it will only open on the bottom. I have my dock on the right and I want Dropshelf on the left to maximize the vertical space on my screen. I put my dock on the bottom and Dropshelf would only open on the right.

Looks like it needs some work.

This just gets better and better. I just read the online manual and discovered many features I will use every day. I highly recommend you read it. It's well organized and well illustrated. One particularly brilliant feature is the "Menu Button" below the dragged item in the shelf. If you dragged a part of a web page you can convert it to an HTML, RTF or TXT format. This button changes depending on the item's type. This is one utility I use continuously every day. Easily best in class. Thanks ... Ken

If you drag any document onto any applicaiton's icon on the dock, Dropshelf pops up and prevent you to do this. If you quit Dropshelf and re-open it, it starts to work properly but of course until next login. You will have to quit and reopen this applicaiton on every login to make it work correctly. On the other side, if you have a drive icon on (right-side of course) desktop anf if you want to drop something onto the drive icon, Dropshelf pos up again and prevents you to do this too. I reported these problems to the developer, and I'm told that these problems will be corrected, but I'm still waiting.

I’ve tried other drag and drop utilities (Yoink, StickyMenu) and this is the best. Easy and quick and only appears when needed. StickyMenu is hard to land your drag and drop items on it and you must command click to select more than one item. Yoink gets in the way every time you drag something. This is the one to get!!!
