Dropzone4.0.6

Open, transfer, and install files by drag-and-drop.

Overview

Dropzone (was Dropzone) makes it faster and easier to get things done. Drag a file onto the dock icon and your fully customizable grid of destinations flies smoothly out using core animation. Drop the file onto a destination and Dropzone will take care of the rest. Whether you're installing an app, uploading a file to an FTP server or sharing your photos on Flickr.

Features
  • Launch Applications - Sometimes you want to keep an application quickly available, but you don't want it taking up space in your Dock. Simply add it to your Dropzone grid, and then you can launch the app by clicking on it in Dropzones grid, or you can drag files or folders onto it.
  • Install Applications - Drag a DMG onto the Install Application destination, and Dropzone mounts the disk image, finds the application inside, copies it to your applications folder, launches it, ejects the disk image and moves it to the trash for you.
  • Flickr Upload - Drop a bunch of pictures on to the Flickr Upload destination and Dropzone uploads them for you. It can even copy the direct image URL to the clipboard so you can paste it to a friend. You can also setup multiple accounts.
  • FTP Upload - You can setup as many FTP servers as you like with Dropzone. If you hold down option while dragging, Dropzone will even zip up the files or folders for you before uploading and put the URL on the clipboard.
  • Save Text - Drop some text onto the Save Text destination, Dropzone asks you for a name, and saves it for you. Great for storing those little snippets of text that you don't want to lose.
  • Copy or Move Files - Sometimes you want to copy or move a file or folder somewhere else on your Mac. Dropzone lets you setup destinations that do this. Underneath, Dropzone uses the fast and powerful Rsync file transfer tool to do its work.
  • Zip and Email - The Zip & Email destination zips up the dragged files and adds them as a Mail attachment, all ready to send. A simple and convenient time saver.
  • Extend Dropzone - Dropzone has a powerful Ruby based API that allows you to script Dropzone to do whatever you need. Not only that, but all the code for the destinations above is open source. So you can help us make Dropzone even better!

Note: While the software is classified as free, it offers in-App Purchases.

Dropzone 4 Pro $1.99
Note: Now requires OS X 10.13 or later

What a great app! I'd purchased this as part of a bundle and thought it was another dock or dragstrip. But no, this app is so much more. This app lets you easily create custom drop actions using Python or Ruby. While I don't need this app to create and use Python scripts, life is just easier with it. - Quick simple install. - Intuitive interface (at least, when compared to using Python by itself) - Build in desktop drag-n-drop interface - Useful built-in debugging feature In no way is this app isn't going to replace the need for full-featured development on the Mac, but if all you want to do is something like "adding custom timestamps to a filename", it's hard to beat Dropzone. In fact, that was my first action. I tried to do it with Apple's Automator which kept me running in circles. Once I figured out Dropzone could help me out, I had my first action done in 10 minutes. I've now added this app to my list of indispensable utilities. I contacted the developer during the process of using the graphical features he's added. His response took a couple of days, but was very helpful.

Just purchased DZ3 as part of widely-advertised bundle. Installed and then added the script for uploading to my Dropbox and Google Drive clouds. Upload to GD works instantly but can not get the files uploaded to Dropbox. Have emailed support/dev but no answer after 3 working days so am likely to remove this puppy. Rating 2.5 for working bits but a shame Dropbox script doesn't as I use DB more than Google Drive. Be curious if others encountered this, or have a solution. Be nice to hear from support/dev but who knows...

Developer recently (May 23, 2016) made a video to show the app in action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gReRHjppIE4 Learned about keyboard shortcuts using F3 and letters on the video. Had the app already but did not use it before reviewing the video.

Thumbs up to the developer for making it super easy to get the non-app store version. Great App. Looking forward to more extensions for the new versions.

Very good app. Even simple things like sticking an oft used folder makes access much easier than it being in the sidebar (have to find a folder window) or in the dock (stupid unlabelled folders!). The airdrop utility is also much quicker than fiddling around with finder windows. A lot of little time improvements make a good difference to the friction in using my Mac, and my level of frustration! I like that it has a framework for people to add in functionality - looking forward to actions.

Great App! Even better than before. As more and more people make bundles for this it will get even better. Would love to have two things: 1) Send to Evernote 2) Send to another mac on the network (e.g. Dropcopy). I own drop copy but it doesn't always complete the send. Plus it is another app running taking resources. It would be great to have this functionality in one app. Already has replaced two other apps! Thanks!!

Hopefully other developers will learn from Aptonic how to go from MAS apps to non. That was just too slick. More info on how to use this app would helpful. I feel I'm just scratching the surface of this app.

Absolute 5 star app in my opinion. Works great, intuitive and I could uninstall several apps because this one combines several functions. Typical an app that I will use many times every day. Love it !

After a quick 5 minute look I made the purchase. I have been running the earlier version for some time now and I was delighted to version 3 today. I welcome the improved range of functionality and the smoothness of those functions. Not a developer myself, I look forward to what others do with the announced API upgrade. I am a great fan of inter-app functions and I will be especially keen to see what hooks to what as further development is undertaken. Finally, you can’t beat the introductory launch price. I am now an even bigger fan of Dropzone than I was with the earlier version.

Well reviewed by http://brettterpstra.com/2013/12/23/a-few-of-my-favorite-mac-apps-in-2013/ BUT, why can't I do 90% of this by creating my own folder of aliases to all these locations and programs, and sticking the folder in the dock (or finding a way to put it in the menu bar)? And, isn't this the whole idea of the Favorites folder? For $15, seems steep to do a more elegant job of something I can do myself. I'm happy to be persuaded, but so for it does not make sense. Responses welcome.

Say you want to transfer files to a server. This seems like a great way to do it. And of course, being a man of the 21st century, you don’t use passwords. You do the smart thing, you use public key authentication. Heck, the remote server, also from the 21st century, does not even accept passwords. All good, except when you fire up Dropzone and create an SCP Upload action, the app insists on your supplying that vestige of the 20th century, the password. Or else, no dropping, no zoning, nada. Apart from that though, it’s a nice app.

This is a fantastic app. It does exactly what it says it will do for me. I especially love the circles feature because you can set it up to do whatever you do the most whether it be changing your desktop wallpaper, initiating your screensaver, creating a zip file, etc. It and Alfred 2 are definitely my favorite and most used apps. This app gets 5 stars from me and I have had no issues since upgrading to Mavericks ;)

Little application which can really speed up your workflow, of course if you configure it to your needs what is not hard at all. The only feature I miss is ability to hide menu bar icon.

I'm giving this a one because I bought it in January but not from the Appstore and there doesn't seem to be any upgrade path. So sick of developers using the Appstore as a means to fleece previous customers of another purchase price if they want to keep the app current.

I give it 5 stars just for making ImageShack so easy. I also use it for drag-and-drop FTP uploads, clearing stuff off my desktop, and for holding all those little utilities that I need fast access to but don't want cluttering up the Dock.

Version 3.1 has been nothing but trouble. The new Dock placement is confusing .... the app does not activate when it should. Not knowing that the program is actually running is should be looked at. So all in all a program I rely on dally does not operate. FIX PLEASE

Interesting app, but I don't want to give-up 81 MB RAM memory for this application. Even if you don't have any action in the control pane, still it consumes 56 MB. :(

This is an amazing little app! It's powers are only limited by what kind of workflow/script someone can conjure up in Ruby, but the provided default scripts are pretty good themselves. It's surprising this app hasn't caught on yet. If more people who are familiar with Ruby use Dropzone's API to write little scripts, this thing can seriously overpower OS X's Automator app! since it's much more easier to use this than Automator (for a novice). The only downside is that I want to see more scripts for Dropzone. Once this little gem catches on, there is no doubt that it will be the next wildfire of an app for OS X, like how Bowtie, Coverflow, Bluebird, and the likes of others were. Highly recommended.

Dropzone is a software swiss army knife. It's not essential to life, but very useful. In addition, If you know Ruby a little, Dropzone will fit more comfortably in your hand.
