Well reviewed by http://brettterpstra.com/2013/12/23/a-few-of-my-favorite-mac-apps-in-2013/

BUT, why can't I do 90% of this by creating my own folder of aliases to all these locations and programs, and sticking the folder in the dock (or finding a way to put it in the menu bar)? And, isn't this the whole idea of the Favorites folder?

For $15, seems steep to do a more elegant job of something I can do myself. I'm happy to be persuaded, but so for it does not make sense. Responses welcome.

Edit: I should have listed this as a comment, but did not see the menu in time. My * rating is based on the review by terpstra.

Say you want to transfer files to a server. This seems like a great way to do it. And of course, being a man of the 21st century, you don’t use passwords. You do the smart thing, you use public key authentication. Heck, the remote server, also from the 21st century, does not even accept passwords. All good, except when you fire up Dropzone and create an SCP Upload action, the app insists on your supplying that vestige of the 20th century, the password. Or else, no dropping, no zoning, nada. Apart from that though, it’s a nice app.

This is a fantastic app. It does exactly what it says it will do for me. I especially love the circles feature because you can set it up to do whatever you do the most whether it be changing your desktop wallpaper, initiating your screensaver, creating a zip file, etc. It and Alfred 2 are definitely my favorite and most used apps. This app gets 5 stars from me and I have had no issues since upgrading to Mavericks ;)

Mac Os X 4ever reviewed on 30 Jun 2013
Doesn't seem to work at all.
Unlike the Finder, or any other Mac App that can resolve aliases, this app cannot resolve an alias and mount a volume no matter what I have tried.
The icon is just broken and displayed as a "?".
I even tried to use Symbolic Links, but cannot select that actual alias file itself when adding the action. it only adds the resolved path to the server, and whenever I try to mount the server by selecting it in the menu, it's just broken again.
I cannot use it at all for my purposes.
I will just have to stick to aliases all over my desktop for now.
I will give another review if it's ever fixed.
I even tried to make a folder of all my network aliases and then drag to that and wait for the popup delay, but that doesn't work either. Not spring loaded folders, so nothing happens.
Everything I have tried to make it work has failed.
My next and last try is going to be to edit the prefs file directly and force the path to the alias.
If this fails too, I guess it's time to look for another app.

Little application which can really speed up your workflow, of course if you configure it to your needs what is not hard at all. The only feature I miss is ability to hide menu bar icon.

Just so you all know. It's available outside the Mac App Store as well. Old licenses works!

Version 3.1 has been nothing but trouble. The new Dock placement is confusing .... the app does not activate when it should. Not knowing that the program is actually running is should be looked at. So all in all a program I rely on dally does not operate. FIX PLEASE

Dropzone makes it faster and easier to get things done on your Mac.

Drag a file onto the dock icon and your fully customizable grid of destinations flies smoothly out using core animation.

Drop the file onto a destination and Dropzone will take care of the rest. Whether you're installing an app, uploading a file to an FTP server or sharing your photos on Flickr.Launch Applications
  • Sometimes you want to keep an application quickly available, but you don't want it taking up space in your Dock. Simply add it to your Dropzone grid, and then you can launch the app by clicking on it in Dropzones grid, or you can drag files or folders onto it.
Install Applications
  • Drag a DMG onto the Install Application destination, and Dropzone mounts the disk image, finds the application inside, copies it to your applications folder, launches it, ejects the disk image and moves it to the trash for you.
Flickr Upload
  • Drop a bunch of pictures on to the Flickr Upload destination and Dropzone uploads them for you. It can even copy the direct image URL to the clipboard so you can paste it to a friend. You can also setup multiple accounts.
FTP Upload
  • You can setup as many FTP servers as you like with Dropzone. If you hold down option while dragging, Dropzone will even zip up the files or folders for you before uploading and put the URL on the clipboard.
Save Text
  • Drop some text onto the Save Text destination, Dropzone asks you for a name, and saves it for you. Great for storing those little snippets of text that you don't want to lose.
Copy or Move Files
  • Sometimes you want to copy or move a file or folder somewhere else on your Mac. Dropzone lets you setup destinations that do this. Underneath, Dropzone uses the fast and powerful Rsync file transfer tool to do its work.
Zip & Email
  • The Zip & Email destination zips up the dragged files and adds them as a Mail attachment, all ready to send. A simple and convenient time saver.
Extend Dropzone
  • Dropzone has a powerful Ruby based API that allows you to script Dropzone to do whatever you need. Not only that, but all the code for the destinations above is open source. So you can help us make Dropzone even better!
