ScreenFloat overview

A screenshot is just a screenshot. Until you use ScreenFloat.

Unleash the power of screenshots and -recordings and make them float above all other windows, (fullscreen-) apps and spaces, to keep information always in sight.

Easily extract text and barcodes. Redact content with a simple right-click. Markup and annotate. Pick colors. Crop, resize, rotate and trim.

Drag and drop to other apps, export, and share.

Organize your Shots in the Shots Browser with folders, smart folders and tags. Synchronize them across your devices over iCloud. Find them system-wide with Spotlight.

Power up your Screenshots. With ScreenFloat.

Main Features

Capture Screenshots and -Recordings
  • Capture screenshots, timed screenshots and screen recordings using keyboard shortcuts or the menu bar icon.
  • Create Shots from content on your clipboard, or import from your iPhone, iPad, or your disk.
  • Re-capture effortlessly without having to painstakingly reframe the capture area.
Floating Shots

Shots float above all apps and windows, and follow you around when you change Spaces. Whatever you capture or record, it'll always be in sight.

  • Scroll up and down within a shot to change its opacity
  • Option-right-click and drag to pick colors
  • Right-click barcodes to view their contents, copy or redact them
  • Quickly redact text, barcodes and faces with a simple right-click
  • Set up double-click actions for custom workflows, like reducing a shot's opacity and making it ignore mouseclicks in one go
  • Drag shots to other apps, with or without markup, in the file format and quality of your choice
Editing Shots
  • Crop, fold, rotate, resize, trim, and "de-retinize" shots
  • Markup Shots with Freedraw, Rectangles, Ovals, Lines, Arrows, Stars, Checkmarks, X-Marks, Text, Smart numbered lists, Highlights and Redactions

(Markup can always be changed or removed entirely)

Shots Browser

ScreenFloat keeps a library of your captures, allowing you to tag, name, rate, favorite and organize them.

  • Use folders to collect Shots
  • Use Smart Folders to intelligently collect Shots by certain criteria, like if they contain faces or barcodes, or which device you captured them on
  • Search for shots using the same criteria you use for smart folders (and search system-wide with Spotlight)
  • Sync your library over iCloud
Tag Management

With the Tags Browser, you can manage your tags by favoriting, renaming, merging and deleting them

Drag'n'Drop, Exporting
  • From any floating shot and the Shots Browser, you can drag shots to other apps to share or export them
  • Upload shots to iCloud and share just a link for larger files, like screen recordings
  • Export shots into different formats, quality levels, with or without markup, metadata, and more
Siri Shortcuts

Automate capturing your screen, importing, and managing your floating shots.

Widgets

Keep shots at your fingertips with ScreenFloat's widgets.

  • Access shots, picked colors, tags, folders and more
  • Start captures and manage floating shots

New version is 2.0 (2023-12-11) with a lot of new features. Maybe a little memory-hungry (500M). A nice possibility to add to "pdf save" would be the merge of multiple captures

I like this tool very much and I'm happy to see it finally got an update. The GUI still looks outdated though and has some issues. Hopefully they will be addressed as well.

I am sure that ScreenFloat is an excellent App, but why is MU not listing SnappyApp as a very good free alternative?

Version 1.4.2 has stopped working on my iMac 0S X 10.6.8. An eMail to the dev came back saying it was undeliverable after 2 hours. This comment is in the hope he looks here once in a while.

5 stars all the way! Extremely useful to have a floating, multi-Spaces screenshot. Can delete it easily. Can save it also. Perfect for my needs. Great! Definitely worth the cost. (Using SnapNDrag much less now.)

Great app! Lots of situations this can be used in. Though I have several other much more expensive screenshot apps... this provides features that none of the others do. Extremely useful and well worth the money. I work with the Adobe Suite and many other apps that have a large number of panels spread across two large monitors (so you may ask... Why would he need this with all of that room?)... with this app though I don't have to keep moving an image source (screenshot taken by Screenfloat) so as to see it every time I bring another app to the front with its panels in yet other positions. Instead I can just leave the SF screenshot in place (or at worst have to move it only slightly without accidentally moving an app's panel by mistake). Again... very useful app! Anyone working with Adobe apps or lots of windows open will love this app.

I love this utility. I log into my checking account. Snap a picture. Update my spreadsheet. Before I had to switch windows all the time. It works for any information you want to access on your screen in another application.

Wow, ScreenFloat is an incredible timesaver! I wish I has this long ago. NOTE TO DEVELOPER: ScreenFloat is the absolute perfect utility while using the brainstorming/project management app, Curio. In my opinion it should be bundled with every copy of Curio. Perhaps you could contact the publisher (Zengobi) and possibly make thousands of other Curio users very happy. I recently heard about ScreenFloat on Zebgobi's Blog and it has turned out to be one of the best timesaving tips I've run across in years. Thanks for creating an excellent product.

Downloaded the demo. So far it works fine, I really like the organized and stored shots in the browser without fiddling, renaming and organizing on your desktop all the time. But I miss some feature that I found to be very useful in e. g. SnapNDrag. The option to make either full screen shots or window shots. Think I will purchase it then... Otherwise good work.

So useful!! Screen Float is made of win. It just makes life so much easier when it comes to taking and managing screenshots. Sure, you can press ⌘-shift-4 and select a portion of the screen. But then you have to fiddle around renaming stuff, it's just a pain in the backside. Managing all those stupid files cluttering up my desktop drives me crazy.

Developer: Unlike so many other new developers out there, you actually offer a demo! You need to make this more readily known. A lot of us have been complaining about the lack of "try before you buy" that seems to be the new norm. The MU page gives the immediate impression that yours is only "buy or nothing," even though a visit to your site proves otherwise. I was intrigued by this program, and your willingness to stand by your product via a demo has now only increased my appreciation of it. Thank you!
