MPlayerX overview
MPlayerX is an alternative media player powered by ffmpeg and mplayer. MPlayer OS X ran OK, but it was slow. And also, the new technologies from Apple prevailed--such as Core Animation, Grand-Central Dispatch, even OpenCL--and pushed me to give them a try.
So I started without even knowing how to program under Mac, came to know Xcode, Objective-C 2.0, Cocoa, and the Core family. MPlayerX is still in such a primary stage, I will keep on enhancing it, and figure out how to do this and that.
Now it can do:
- Multi-screen full-screen support
- Apple Remote support
- Multi-Touch support
- Automatically find the next proper file to play
- Auto-detect the encode method of subtitle file (with Universal Charset Detector)
- Take a snapshot
- Multi-threaded ffmpeg support
- Change subtitle size while playing(except VOBSub)
- Remember last played time and resume playing

No updates on this version since 2016, AppStore updates is from 8 years ago. Used this app but stay away now. Often it crashes and are moved to trash, other times you only get audio. VLC is now my media player.

Bought this app Version 1.0.14 online from mac App store... Video is frozen. Audio only is coming.

Must say over all the years I have been using this I have never had a problem.

It works in that it plays the glitchy MKV file that VLC player was failing to play. However, I will be removing it as soon as I am done watching the series I downloaded in MKV format. The install had 4 different sneaky extra things that wanted to be added (Yahoo everything, Opera browser, and a couple other things) and it changed its formatting each time for how you deny these installs, so if you were not paying attention you would end up with these extra programs. It also DID NOT ASK to install Mac Defender which immediately started giving me popups to scan my Mac. Not discrete at all. I force-quit that and removed it in Applications. I would not be surprised if, as reported in other reviews, this entire program is Malware. However, it DOES function as a simple and lite media player that doesn't have the MKV glitch in Mavericks that VLC Player has. So I am not giving it 0 stars. It does do the thing it set out to do, but beware of extra programs coming along for the ride.
