VoiceMac0.4.1

31 October 2013

Client for Google Voice.

Overview

VoiceMac is the first Google Voice client for the Mac. Send multiple SMS Messages, send SMS Messages, receive SMS Messages, place calls, look at your call history, receive voicemail, reverse lookup a phone number, and search your contact list in one easy interface. When you receive a SMS Message or Voicemail, you get notifications via Growl and hear sounds that is customizable.

With SIP support you can place calls from your computer using your favorite SIP service and if you link your Google Voice Number with the SIP service, you can place calls with your Google Voice Number from your computer. With the reverse lookup data, you can see who is calling you, even if their number isn't in your contacts list.

With themes, you can customize your SMS Messages look anyway you like with simple HTML or by downloading a theme.

VoiceMac's contacts system is one of the best contacts system around, with support for Address Book and Google Contacts. You can search your contacts just like a Search Engine with speed.

This software is awesome and I applaud the author. It would be nice to be able to edit contacts, but geez software like this is hard to come by. I use it everyday.

This app is very buggy. The interface has clipping errors, and trying to resize sidebars makes them disappear. The inbox doesn't display names, only phone numbers. This app is clearly unfinished.

Doesn't work for me with a Google Voice number attached to a personal hosting account. Keeps giving me the error that I do not have a google voice number associated but I do. Had it for some time now.

Does the GoogleVoice login operate separately from any other Google logins that may be active in Safari? ie. Can we be logged in to VoiceMac with Google account A, while being logged in to Google account B in Safari? Also, what is GeckoReporter.framework?? (in the app bundle)

I tried... It doesn't work at all (for me)... Cannot pass login... It is not intuitive... I know nothing about setting up SIP and other nonsenses (like Proxy, etc.)... I am not software developer - I am simple user, so I need something simple and efficient... This VoiceMac app is neither simple, nor efficient... Sorry... Skype rules!...

Excellent application... although just rebuilt from the ground up, it's a tad buggy. Switching phone numbers is not intuitive, the Skype theme has some major CSS overlap and there's quite a delay between the time I actually get a text in GV and when VoiceMac relays it to me. All in all, a very nice job!

Same problem as some people, it says my account "does not have a Google Voice number, please go to voice.google.com to set one up."

Can we get this to run in the menubar? It would be nice like that instead of sitting in the dock. AWESOME application though....

I cannot get this version of voicemac to recognize my google voice account. It says I do not have a number and must set one up. This is odd because I have used voice mac in its previous incarnations with no problems (at least no problems getting the app to recognize my google voice number).

"first Mac client for Google Voice"? GV Connect widget predates this app by a long shot.

What's SIP? I wanna give this application a spin, but does anyone care to weigh in on the advantages and disadvantages of using a Mac application as opposed to the voice.google.com website itself?

The app takes too much time to logout. Sometimes, when I log in some UI controls and objects doesn't work well in Contacts window (like phone to ring or the call history).

Great app and use it all the time. The only problem I have is a huge memory leak. I have to close it now and then to get it to free up RAM, sometimes eating up more than 2gb.

Really loving this software so far. I was initially using a Fluid app version of Google Voice but it didn't refresh the inbox fast enough for my liking. I must note, I haven't used/tried the call feature yet so that is not factored into my rating. Would like to see a bit more customization available (i.e., custom sounds for receipt of messages), but I'm sure that will come with time. For now, however, it does what I need it to.

SMS works fine. However, when I try to call out it says "Error while trying to call." Error code: null. This is on Voice Mac Beta 5. Not sure why this is happening, is there something I can do? I'm running OS X 10.5.8

Great app! Works well with Growl->Prowl notifications. It would be nice if you could consolidate contact numbers under one entry. For instance: Instead of having: -John Doe (xxx) xxx-xxxx Cell -John Doe (xxx) xxx-xxxx Work -John Doe (xxx) xxx-xxxx Home It would look like: -John Doe (xxx) xxx-xxxx Cell (xxx) xxx-xxxx Work (xxx) xxx-xxxx Home Skype for OSX splits the contacts from address book in the same way, so perhaps it's a limitation with Address Book/OSX. Pulling contacts from Address Book seems to work better than from Google Voice. When pulling the contacts from Google Voice I end up with a bunch of strange entries from old mobile phone# that have long been deleted from my google contacts. It will just show the old number as an entry with no name. Thank you! -Will

Works for me. I like it. Was able to call out, was able to send SMS. What more is there to do? Oh, receive messages. Yes, it can do that too.

Ok..what does this do? ????? Gawd awful initial user experience! I downloaded, it presented me the enter email/password dialog. I log into the web page with a user name and password. I had to go to the web site to find out what my email was. Strike one! I entered the email and licked ok but nothing happened! The dialog stayed up. Strike two! I then quit and reopened and now it says I'm logged in but a visit to the preferences doesn't show me what it's using as log in credentials or any way to change them! Strike three! I'm not given the ability only to: Log out View SMS History View Voice Mail That's pretty much it! In the description I see a cool graphic but gawd only knows what it is. Anyway...I'm now left to go research what this thing is supposed to do for me and that just shouldn't be the case.

Seems like this was rushed out: - application menu says "About NewApplication"/"Quit NewApplication" - goes into spiral of death after entering a single number (I tried "5") in the field for a number to call - SMS window keeps popping up every 10s or so after closing it - if I close a window I want it gone! Can't use it in its current

This is a very good attempt at a replacement for Vocito. It's still in early development and I look forward to new features.

Does what it says. Rang my mobile and connected me to my office 800#, and I received a txt sent through it. Seems rather limited but great first step!

Well, it seems to do SMS so far. One problem I do have is that every minute or so a window will pop up "Error while trying to call. Error code: (null)." Note, I haven't attempted to try calling; this error appeared on startup of the app as well. Aside from that annoyance, it seems to work well for SMS.
