Robust video conferencing.

The installer asks for my systems password. These days opening my computer's system to modification by a software vendor I'm not familiar with takes a lot more than curiosity. Why is it necessary to use an installer that is beyond a drag and drop?

When I try to open the zip file it gets stuck and the file does not open so essentially the developer is saying to me, "No Oovoo for you!" My response is ok I'll just get on my horse and ride off into the sunset. ;-)

It may be related to its use of Java -- perhaps you don't have Java installed/configured properly for use...

Just tried the latest version and the disk image mounts fine. I copy the app to my Mac and that works. But when I click on the app to launch it nothing happens. I have Java installed so that's not the issue. Oh well maybe next year. ;-)

I agree. Use the "Suspicious Package" Quick Look plugin to examine packages before installing: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/26833/suspicious-package

The only value in this is that it offers cross-platform multi video chat, which is still good enough for me to keep it on my computer. That being said, I have not been able to open this application once. I'm on an intel MacBook with 2gb of ram and running Leopard. I've got a friend who's on a MacBook Pro and it works for her, but I'm not sure why it doesn't work on here. Any time I try to open it, it quits unexpectedly before I can even see the interface. So, for now, I have to say that this is a piece of crap. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out in the future.

OK, I figured out that the problem was with a CamCamX plugin that I had. Apparently all mac users with that plugin have the same problem, so I just deleted it. Oovoo seems to be working now. The interface is pretty ugly and very unmac-like, but at least it's working.

I think its a promising application. I tried a multiperson conference and worked very well, not as good as ichat, but very good for crossplatform multiperson videochat. At least for me it works with my isight.
