I reviewed VoxOx about 5 years ago. It was awful. It is still awful. The latest Mac version will actually make and receive calls on OS 10.10.3, but not without problems. It is not possible to access voicemail -- the vm window is blank. It is not possible to set some of the important preferences as that window is also blank in places.
As for the quality of support, there is none. I recently posted a question to the VoxOx online support forum about the vm problem, and it was deleted. (I didn't include any editorial comment, just a question.)
Astonishingly, the VoxOx CEO was a finalist for the San Diego Business Journal's Most Admired CEO award, handed out in 2015. That tells you all you need to know about that Journal's credibility. The CEO is apparently even invited to gives speeches at tech conferences. I bet those speeches are not about how great VoxOx is on a Mac, or the company's excellent support.
On the plus side, it seems very unlikely that more than a few masochists actually have VoxOx on their Macs.
Simply does not work. I registered an account with Voxox, chose a phone number, got emails about it, and downloaded the application. However, nothing works. It is not possible to make calls or to receive calls. Forget about it ...
Serious support and store problems -
- sent 3 emails to support in past 4 days, all received auto reply within seconds, but no real reply so far to any
- store offers only credits, calling plan and text plan - no virtual number offer
- when trying to make a purchase with my Seattle address and all American credit card I'm getting a message - "purchases are not supported for your region"
- tried to purchase calling plan through different mac from different location - this time got "your order was put on hold pending security review, please contact support for manual processing" - fine, but there is no phone number available for support, so how they want to process anything manually. And of course no replies to emails sent to support.
Conclusion - great concept, beyond disastrous implementation. Support ignores my emails
Having the same issues. Crashes each time I login under OS X. Put in some many problem reports with attached crash logs, etc. I have got email from support; the last one today to the effect that crashes on Mac have been identified and will not be fixed until 2.0.7 is release and that is expected in the next week or so. Yes, they are slow and fixing and releasing releases for problems; not too sure if they have the support staff and I do think there priority is on Windows at the moment. BUT i am getting emails from Erica on the issue - supposedly only affects a small number of Mac users but the feedback I have seen is that it is more than a small number. I offered my service to help debug and resolve the issues but I got a polite refusal.
Not ready for primetime yet on mac. It seems to work on Windows, however there are still issues with the phone number that they assign you.
I will wait until 2.0.7 to further check this out.
I've only had this for a short time but it's not that bad for a beta application. If you're looking to consolidate all your internet communication apps this just might be what you're looking for. The interface is fairly easy to master and set up is too. The nice thing is you can use it for free if you only use some of the basic features like instant messaging and email. For the more advanced features they have several no contract plans plus you can use them on a pay-as-you-go basis. It's also nice that they have software for both Mac and Windows PC's. As for bugs I've only experienced 1 or 2 so far. You really should go to their website and check out all the features available plus the different plans available to decide if it's worth it to you to try it.
I put $10 on account to try VoxOx out…
…but VoxOx crashes (quits) every time I open it and go to settings (to set audio preferences, e.g.).
iMac 2.16GHz (3Gb 667MHz) -- OSX 10.5.8
I think these folks are going to need to get some responsive tech support if they are going to get off the ground…
I think the web site is more informative now. I believe this program is basically a single application interface to all your contacts and all the ways you communicate with them. There does seem to be some mystery as to what it would actually cost to call country xyz. It seems like they may be heading toward a type of social network as well. Overall, I would think some jet setters or business people or even college students might find it useful.
Yes this looks interesting, but what on earth is it? The Website looks well but has zero information. How does it relate or compare to other apps in the field like Skype, iChat, and so on. I am interested but do I really have to download and install it just to find out this kind of basic information
How would you rate VoxOx app?
