Do NOT update to "Apple APPStore" version! It was a great, simple & powerful app. Newest version have a lot of bugs. Working great 4 a few days. Now growing like Apple trees in SANDBOX.

On Mavericks Vox is Sandboxed, which means it won't show up in the excellent Hear anymore for sound enhancements. Bummer!

Dire, DO NOT UPDATE!!! Thank God I had the old version in backup. I don't know if this is a result of a buyout by competition or similar schema, but the new version is misery incarnate in comparison with the previous. Initially, I noticed the album cover-art picture has gone (geez!) and then balked at the cheap, webby-addy-look and almost aggressive new graphic design that destroys the neat, 'just-right' and uncomplicated design (being minimal yet retaining a friendly character) that had been developed through past versions up until the previous.

Now it is also slower, buggy and crashing. I primarily started using Vox as a 'light-weight' alternative player and to play FLAC files, so if they make it as CPU intensive and flappy as the others I simply will not continue to use it.

Doh!

I'm having the opposite experience with Vox 2.0.1. It uses 1.6% CPU playing 320kbps MP3s. Vox helper rests quietly at 0.0%.

There are so many alternate apps that do a proper job.Ecoute,Cog,Clementine just to name a few. This may be free but it is not worth the trouble. They all do a good job.It is sad to see the metamorphosis of this app from a genuine free music app to its total disintegration.

Since Vox 2.0 it's been a great litle music player. I really hope to see this continue it's development into the future. What would be nice is to see the SoundSpectrum plugins (like G-Force, whitecaps, and others) work with it for visualization support.

O.K. much better...
BTW i uninstalled the app completely before installing new version to get rid of all leftovers... then I turned off iTunes source, because I use iTunes to load iTunes (massive library)...

Everything seems stable at this point...
So far I have only one complaint:
I use Vox to play music from separate folders on disk, and I always use menubar controls when working in other apps. Vox really has great menubar controls, but one thing bothers me; when using menubar playlist only 10 songs are listed at the time, this can be really frustrating and limiting to Vox experience. Why not show more than 10 songs?!

There's a lot to like about Vox, but I don't have it as my primary music player, because I haven't been able to find any way to FFWD/REW within a track -- all I can do is next/prev tracks. If somebody can point out to me how to do that, I'm definitely going to use it for all my music listening, and just use iTunes for iPhone management and serving up video to my Apple TV.

If you are on a laptop with a trackpad, or using an Apple Magic Mouse, or mouse with a scroll wheel, you can quickly and accurately scrub to different parts within a track.

You have to move the arrow over the orange bar do this first. I actually prefer this to a FFWD/REW button myself.

I´ll stick to earlier versions. They worked perfectly for me.

Also can get a dmg file with the fixed libbass.dylib for ML here:

To get no information whatsoever at all on the subject, but where you can see a slick video on the newer version:

I had crashing for launch as well. Figured out it wanted access to my iTunes library which I keep on an external drive. Mount it and the crashes stopped occurring. So if you keep your iTunes library on an external drive that's probably why Vox is crashing for you. If not well it is a beta after all....

In playlist, in case when I have mp3 with no album, artist or title tag should be at least shown name of mp3 file...
Custom column with mp3 file name would be great. I have many mp3s without tags and then I see empty spaces in playlist.
Anyway great APP! Finally have playlist!

The Application Vox has unexpectedly quit!

My little theory why RC1 and now RC2 both quit
so regularly - that maybe it has something to do with the album artwork.
How Vox handles the artwork, if embedded in the file itself.

After a restart or two, RC2 seems now to be working fine.
Even if no artwork is displayed. Sometimes only half the artwork
shows and the other half is grayed out.

But this is such a great tool.
The menubar 'play' features are very useful and a great idea.

For the Mac, this is a stand out - well designed wonder.
Fantastic export features, all-in-all this really is a must have...
if you ever need a stand alone player. To quickly play files without
including them in your iTunes library, and the mess that can cause.
This is it. To the developer - thank you.

Don't try going to this site, it appears to be wired to get you to "install" flash player on your machine, and takes you to a very dodgy site.

I realize this is a reply to a very old post, but I went here to see if the old developer of Vox still had a site, and figured others might do likewise.

Hi bbw7, Thanks for the heads up, however, I still went to the developer's site that list on MU to check what is going on.

Here's what I think: I do have the latest Flash plugin so I saw the whole fancy flash intro before they take me into the public beta sign-up page. I don't get why they going through all the trouble to make a fancy grand intro for Vox, this really makes me believe the developer is going to turn Vox into a commercial ware after public beta... anyone agree with me?
