Mixxx2.2.3

12 May 2020

Everything you need to perform live mixes.

Overview

Mixxx allows you to perform live DJ mixes with your digital music collection. It helps you rock the party with MIDI/HID controllers, vinyl turntables, or even just your keyboard.

Mixxx is used by professional DJs and bedroom DJs alike. It is designed by an international team of volunteer DJs who want to bring the joy of DJing to everyone. The project is non-profit, open-source and community-driven. Together and with your help, we aim to build the best DJ software ever created.

Features
  • Dual Decks: A scratchable, scrolling waveform marks beats and cue points of a track, along with a whole-song waveform overview for quick seeking.
  • Advanced Controls: Change playback with time stretching, and loop beat segments.
  • Sampler Decks: Perfect for dropping that vocal sample or airhorn.
  • iTunes Integration: Use your playlists and songs from iTunes, Traktor and Rhythmbox.
  • BPM Detection and Sync: Instantly detect and sync the tempo of your songs.
  • DJ Controller Support: Control your DJ mixes with MIDI/HID controllers.
  • Timecode Support: Use a real turntable or DJ-CD player as a controller.
  • Live Broadcasting: Start a radio station and stream your mixes live over the Internet.
  • Powerful Mixing Engine: Supports various file formats, custom EQ shelves, recording, etc.
  • Automatic Mixing: Create a quick playlist and let Auto DJ take over.
  • Microphone Input: Drop vocals or give shoutouts on the air.

Wow! I'm not a dj, but this software is very efficient! I made some simple mixes just now, very powerful! Moreover it's free!

YEAH! This is the software I've been waiting for. Stumbled open thisand gave it a shoot. It works great. Was able to do a nice mix. Audio Interface is what audience / recording would here and Built-In Audio out is for pre-listening via Headphone. Works great. Why didn't I hear about this earlier? Off to rocking some old school hip hop tracks...

+ It's free + It works quite good - Doesn't buffer sound which creates lags. - Can't save mixes. - Not so intuitivie.

I am surprised they never bumped a ver with this release - 1.9 is so much more than 1.8 was. And then, I wonder if this will go the route of djay - Born Free, died $50. Even if it does, in its current form, it certainly is a good piece of software, for the casual DJ especially. In fact, I think I may just prefer it to djay...

KEESBAKKER: I highly encourage you to try the Mixxx 1.8.0 final release, not the beta version that you reviewed. We've addressed things like the high CPU usage (an issue mostly isolated to Macbook Pros btw), and we have a much faster library scanner. We appreciate your feedback, but we'd appreciate it even more if you directed it to our public bug tracker that's accessible off our Support page ( http://www.mixxx.org/support.php ). If we don't know what issues are affecting people, we won't know what to fix, plain and simple. The whole point of a beta release is to get wider testing, but it's useless without feedback from our users. Anyways, please try the 1.8.0 final release, and be sure to check out the release announcement on our blog. We hope your experience will be much improved.

iTunes just don't cut it when it comes to playing some genres of music, Hip Hop etc. Many tracks sound their best when the pitch and eq is adjusted. Mixxx does this and a whole lot more and I find it very intuitive and uncomplicated because it follows the simple design of old school turntable mixer setups.
