Project management software (was Merlin).

Overview

Merlin Project is the leading professional project management software for OS X.

If you plan complex projects on your Mac, you won’t get far with a simple list of tasks. Good planning raises questions about the dependencies of activities on each other, the impact of delays on the project completion date, and budget planning.

These are precisely the answers Merlin Project provides for your projects - with just a few mouse clicks. Download now our free demo version and test Merlin Project on OS X for full 30 days.

What's new in Merlin Project

Version 5.1.10:
New Features:
  • Moved subscription management to a separate panel which can be opened from the Merlin Project menu.
  • Fixed issues
Improved general stability:
  • Date cells in net plan cards sometimes showed unreadable duplicate text.
  • The dependency inspector did not work correctly with activated groupings.
  • Sometimes, the list of resource calendar exceptions did not refresh correctly.
  • HTML export: Scrolling of the exported webpage did not work correctly in Safari 13.0.
  • The height of Gantt bars can now be reduced down to 2 points.

I'm a user since version 1. With version 5, they are offering only a subscription pricing model, no possibility anymore to buy it. Goodbye Merlin...

There is only a subscription model only for Merlin. The charge of $149 is annualy! There should be a remark if the price tag applies to a subscription.
This is also true for many other apps on macupdate and this a general nuisance.

I moved to Merlin Project 5 from version 4 and I love it. The new Kanban features is awesome. But for me the resources pool is the big thing. I think that a subscription is absolutely justified for such a software. Many people here don't seem to understand that the developers of a software can't live if you put a great app on the market and then have to support users with updates for years for free.

I am totally agree with you - without an alternative fix price offering Merlin is dead for me... I switch completely to Omniplan

I dont understand your problem. The software is now way cheaper with many more options and features. Starting from $99/year (which is as low as $8,25/month) I think its worth every penny. I'm also a user since version 2 and compared to any other professional pm app, Merlin was always a great deal. OmniPlan is way not as full featured compared to Merlin Project.

I also don't believe in this model.

As an app, Merlin's inability to share with PC and Android devices (even read only) is a deal killer.

You may not agree with the pricing model. But you may find that, for many specialist software developers, the subscription model is the only financially sustainable revenue model. The big issue is not the subscription pricing. Rather, it is whether the develop continues to improve the software or not.

With regards to Merlin, the first issue is whether the software functionality is useful or not. The second issue is whether in general the pricing model is suitable for the given functionality, though it may not be your cup of tea.

Compared with other such packages, the Merlin pricing seems reasonable.

The question then is, for those of us reading this review, does Merlin deliver on the claimed functionality, or not.

Thank you.

The best project management app on the Mac, period. And less expensive than the very overpriced Omniplan. Omniplan has only a couple of advantages, like the bidirectional communication between Apple Calendar and Omniplan ( Merlin is only monodirectional, from Merlin to Calendar but changes in Calendar won't reflect in Merlin )
While Merlin's Mac version is top-notch , it's iOS companion is a bit underwhelming for the price ( 40 $ a year ), and only allows for minor changes and perspective. Very limited usefulness, don't expect much from it.
Omniplan's iOS app on the other hand is impressive, nearly identical to the Mac version , but comes at a very hefty price ( 150$ ! )

Bottom line : on the Mac, Merlin wins hands down, but really needs a better, more powerful iOS companion

As a project manager for an huge software enterprise I dropped all other pm solutions and exclusively go with Merlin Project. But since version 4.2 is out they really rock my teams with the groundbreaking Dropbox synchronization! Worth every single $.

this user joined MU on 25.4.17 and only made one single post, this one. same goes for brigitte-cording, julia-moeser and probably more below. so, thank you projectwizards for posting FAKE REVIEWS from time to time. :)
my opinion about merlin is that it was better at 2.x

@George6, It's great that you monitor the activities on MacUpdate. Two points on that:

1. Yes, I have only one review here at MU, because I don't use it. But I stumbled upon Merlin Project 4 here at MU, downloaded it from here and fell in love with the tool. And _only_ to write that review I had to register. But thank you for your harsh comment, I'll think twice next time.

2. I do not know Merlin 2 so I can't judge about it.

Man, sometimes the world isn't just black or white ;-) Also, I forward this message to ProjectWizards and MU, to inform them about this.

P.S.: I am not used to use MU, so I pressed accidentally the Smiley. That was a mistake. Replace it with this :-(

well mr-spankman... maybe its true what you say, but its quite obvious with the self-reviews here. of course you can do that as a developer, but then you also have to live with it when other users point it out. in your favor speaks your odd nick, which differs from the more serious looking 1 post reviewers below. on the other side you seem to care a lot about my accusation, which makes me suspicious again. ;-)

Love this tool. More powerful than other project management tools available for the Mac. No problems after upgrading the OS to Sierra.

I'm very impressed with the power of Merlin 4. Checklists allow for fine-grain, repeatable details I've struggled to capture in other PM tools.
