What's new in aMSN

Version 0.98.9:
  • After such a long time in the making, aMSN 0.98.9 is more than just a bugfix release, it's the latest development code with all the new features and stability/security fixes that you've been waiting for.
  • The reason you see 0.98.9 and not 0.98.5 is that this release is "almost" 0.99. In 0.99, which will be released (hopefully) soon, we will implement the new MSNP18 protocol version, which will enable signing in at multiple locations, offline messages, and hopefully audio and video calls too. 0.98.9 is the same as a 0.99 release but without MSNP18 support, this way you get the latest stable release just before we upgrade the protocol.Contains several bugfixes, including the bug which made you unable to read Offline Messages.

I thought it was worth repeating that as of 0.98.3 aMSN does not have A/V chat capabilities. According to the developers, this is a temporary state of affairs. It happened mainly because Microsoft (yet again) changed the way the A/V chat protocols work, and now the aMSN developers have to catch up. Unfortunately, this also means that you won't be able to use an older version of aMSN to do A/V chat, because it won't work with the changes Microsoft has made. Hope this clarifies things.

Don't install 0.98.9 if you have upgraded to Mountain Lion. It will give you lots of spinning pizza and other problems. Moreover, when you try to launch aMSN it will tell tou that the app should be put in the trash.

This is fantastic! I love this program even more! it was the only messenger for me that would not lag out... I can now close it with "quitting" when i hit the "X" which is awesome i dont have to minimize anymore. It now has voice call!!! its faster and the sounds are quite unique Well done guys!!!

Yes i understand your point.. but some people are just that lazy or are so organized that they really only want one client that does all. More people use MSN and aim then skype, but i completely agree with you. I dont understand why they cannot get video support in microsoft messenger... its starting to annoy me :@

Well, reading all those bad reviews, I must say that if you use aMSN as a simple messenger (no video), it's more enjoyable than the original MSN. But I wonder why bother having trouble with video functions on anything using msn network when Skype works so great on any platform? The perfect solution I've chosen long ago and that I install for friends asking me: Use aMSN for messaging and Skype for video, it's so easy!
