Maybe this is a dumb question, but does it include SSH and other connections?

It only monitors AFP (Apple Share) connections via port 548. Nothing more. Nothing less. And the next release will try to show you names instead of IPv4 / IPv6 addresses.

The problem was not in the number of options but in quality, crispness and meaning.
I like the 2 heads most but boy they are so OS7 :).If I have time I'll send you some samples:).
Very useful little app btw.

Well, the two heads are where it all began with ... after my switch from OS 9 I really missed an indication to show me the status of AppleShare. OS 9 did this with one face in the status bar.
For sure I'd appreciate if you can come up with something sharp, crisp and meaningful and I'd be happy to integrate it into the next release.

a bit unuseful for me too - I hoped there was showing names instead of mac addresses (so I can't tell whos connected) and I hoped for a way to send a message to connected users... But as said down here - it's great that people makes software and distributes it.

I liked this one better that the Sharing Menu which was just the PrefsPane in menu

Nice program, but on intel is alittle unstable. Not sure what triggers it but suddenly the cpus will go 100% and it can't be communicated with - just force quit. How soon to a intel version?

Thanks for the response! Feel free to contact me via email to "software@sparrer-online.de", if you have more details, such as when exactly this happens.

I am still on RealBasic 5.5.5 ... the more people donate, the faster an Intel-Version will be available. ;-)

Shortly before version 1.2 will be released, I'd like to get this cleared: In fact, what you have seen were'nt MAC- addresses but IPv6. Mac OS X uses IPv6 if you are connecting to your server using the "Network" folder of the Finder. If you use "Connect to server" (command + k) Mac OS X uses IPv4 and AFPStatus will display the correct IP address and (if resolvable) the DNS name.

Version 1.1 has an error where stopping File Sharing through AFPStatus might log the current user out. I am currently investigating this problem, but I strongly recommend to use 1.1.1 in the meantime which prevents the log out. Thanks!

This is just what I needed for my small Mac network at my home, especially since xAFP doesn't seem to work. Growl support is an especially welcome feature.

I'm wondering if the menu could actually show the name of the computer/user that's sharing with the host computer (in addition to its IP address)...that would be a nice thing to have.

Thanks for your suggestion! It made it into version 1.1.2: The name of the connecting computer will be shown inside the GROWL notification, but only if it can be resolved via DNS. Since DNS Names of connecting users via the internet can be quite long, I would not want to show those long names in the menu ... but I will think about a solution.

I think it's great when people write some software and decide to offer that software to others for free, but I wonder, why not use SharingMenu, rather than reinventing the wheel?

With this one you can switch file sharing on and off and other nice things.

I have to admit that both applications do have things in common. However, as the name says - AFPStatus focuses more on File Sharing. AFPStatus was developped because of a personal need - I was looking for a tool that actively notifies me upon incomming connections through File Sharing - and not just by changing a color of a menu item. I just thought that some others might like it as well.
If you are fine with Sharing Menu, that's absolutely fine with me (I know the developper), but isn't it sometimes nice to have a choice?

Good beginning but not useful enough for me to take up valuable space on the menu bar.

It needs the ability to turn sharing on/pff along with its various sharing modes.

Along with that it should have a button to take you directly to Sharing Preferences.

These additions would turn this into a worthwhile and highly useful tool deserving of Menu Bar space.

I really hope that the 1.1 update to my AFPStatus will make it into your menu bar. It adds exactly what you asked for - turning File Sharing on and off, and accessing the "Sharing" preferences and additionally GROWL support for system wide notifications. But please feel free to drop me a note about what "various sharing modes" you exactly mean ... Thank you.
