System requirements needs to get updated big time, as far as I know it is not PPC compatible anymore so better check with developers site before downloading 450MB if you have PowerPC mac.

In an earlier mini review of this game I said that when WWII Online is working it's a real joy to play - version 1.18 thru 1.18.2 soured me, and my ratings reflected that. Subsequent releases though, show that the developers (Cornered Rat Software) are making a real effort to improve things for Mac gamers. I have also re-evaluated the game and re-subbed. Version 1.18.4 is stable and playable again, but more - with the addition of a couple of new Mac programmers - from all reports the upcoming 1.19 release will be the best yet for the Mac player base - and looks to only get better. There have been several posts about minimum system requirements for decent gameplay, but I can only say that I play ok on an 867 G4, with 1.5 gig RAM, and a 32Mb Video Card. This should probably be the current minimum. This is an insanely addictive game, which is perhaps why passions run so high when people review it - when we can't get our "fix", we spiral into an ugly withdrawl - this also says a lot about how great this game really is.

I am severly upset that these WWII Online people would say their game req's are so low. I feel I was duped into forking over 20 bucks for the CD and then find out the game is unplayable on my system: OSX 10.3.7 1.25Ghz G4 2 g/memory Geforce4MX 32mb I have a buddy who can play it with his high end G5 so I have no idea what the real minimum spec's are, I only know they fall somewhere in between what I have and a G5 with all the bells and whistles.

The posted system requirements are pure fantasy: You must have at least a 1 GHz CPU, 1 gig RAM, a 64Mb Video Card (or better) to play this game at even it's minimum settings - which are poor graphically, and will result in you just being cannon fodder for those with yet higher-end systems. If you don't have a G5 with plenty of memory, a gamer quality video card, and a fast connection - Don't even bother!

Most of the "Mac" players ( and even numerous PC'ers) have a love-hate relationship with this game. When it's functioning properly (IE: reasonable FPS, and not crashing during gameplay every 10 minutes) it's completely absorbing, and a real joy to play. The big problem with this game is that CRS (Cornered Rat Software- the WWII Online developers) is often too quick to release updates or patches that haven't been thoroughly tested and all too often -such as in the current release update 1.18.2- the game comes to a screeching halt due to numerous bugs and/or OS compatability issues. In CRS's favor, they usually work out most of the kinks within a week or two of an "update". The down-side is that they seem to feel the need to constantly (almost monthly now) add frills and goodies (new weapons, visual enhancements, etc) at a feverish pace- then rush it into game play without thorough Beta-testing. This is, once again, the major issue with 1.18.2 and though I'm a long time subscriber and avid fan - I simply can't take the frustration of having the game not work half the time anymore and have un-subbed as of today.

It's an amazing game, the most realistic you can get. As such, it has a vast learning curve, give it a month at minimum, join a squad, and you'll see what I mean. Only downside is steep system requirements.

Been playing the game for quite awhile. Overall I love the general idea/theme. However I find it increasingly disturbing that after YEARS this game should still never exited beta testing. You'll find over and over again with each 'update' that the one should just be deleted, this is really version 0.17.0. Support for the Mac platform is nonexistant. There have been references made to thier 'mac guy' and even given some extra help. But once again, bugs exist in this game that have been there for 16+ months and nothing has been done about it. I personally have had several service tickets outstanding since a month after I started. I am not alone on this eather. Dozens of Mac people have gotten ignored. Several players have been overbilled. If you insist on trying this game, do so with the utmost caution. It's a great idea. Just really poor implimentation. Graphics are old, fps are SLOW even on a windows box, play options are limited even with full rank, support is a joke, bugs are abundant, billing is scary, the half dozen mac die-hards are the people you'll come to know and joke with, they are a good bunch. Unfortantly I really have no need to pay for a chat forum. Try it if you must, but be cautious.

Are you seeing the same game I am? It works fine on a Mac. I'm running at full screen 1600x1024 on a PowerMac G5 1.6, getting 20+ fps. I do have the occasional crash to death, but less than my PC counterparts do. I do wish they'd optimize for the Mac even more, but I'm having a blast in game. Then again, you'd probably have more fun with a scripted twitch game like Call of Onan, uh Call of Duty, why not try that?

The game has finally "updated" it's Mac player base out of play. The most recent Update has caused the game to be UNPLAYABLE for anyone one versions of OSX below 10.3 (the majority of the community of Mac players despite CRS's lies). CRS has stated on their "support" boards that they will no longer be patching Mac versions below 10.3 Oddly they announced this long after they collected advanced payments from mac users and ONLY because of ANOTHER patching problem. CRS has ONE MAC PROGRAMMER, and this guy (RickB) has stated that he has not seen Mac code in MONTHS. it seems they keep him busy with other work and ignore the Mac needs! A recent CRS poll revealed that there are less then FORTY Mac players of wwii online and that base is full of CRS "friends" and fanboys that attempt to shout down any criticism of wwii online and thus hamper any attempts to force the rats to give us what we paid for. Oddly, the fanboys are too stupid to see that their "we love you no matter what" posts to CRS are the main reason this company has never tried to make the Mac client playable. There are "show stopping bugs" such as the sound bug that are MONTHS old in this game that have NEVER been addressed at all despite complaints and support requests. Why bother, the rats get paid from the fanboys parents once a month to baby sit their drooling kids no matter how poor the product. I'm shocked no one ever initiated a class action Vs. CRS and Playnet. They NEVER delivered on the sales pitch and there are laws that protect people from deceptive sales practices such as theirs. This game has been nothing but a scam from day one.

Please download the free trial, read the forums, find out for yourself. Not only is this another PC game that was poorly ported and not optimized for our beloved Macintosh, but any support you get will come from players, not staff. Real support is non-existant. I've played this game since beta for the mac, I thought it would improve, it hasn't. Features (and bugs) have been added to the game but have made almost no positive difference to game play. If your looking for a new online game, try it, but imo this isn't it. If your looking for a new FPS type game, you can forget it without even the trial, it's not optimized for a mac even in the slightest. The hype about mac users making the difference, is just hype. I'm sorry to say it's another WWII game that just hasn't made it to the Macintosh community.

Don't make a snap decision about this game thinking you know everything about it on one try - or that what you see ingame is all there is! This game is a massive, evolving programming effort that drops you like a time machine into service for Britain, France or Germany in WWII Europe (modelled at a staggering .5 scale!!) letting you drive and fight in a circa 1939 tank, pilot a fighter or bomber, crew a ship or hands you a rifle, submachine gun or machine gun of the era to fight to take and hold terrain with your fellow players in wartorn Europe. The developers are staunch Mac fans - making a conscious decision to develop for cross-platform on OpenGL and it's sound equivalent, OpenAL. The ingame graphics are soon to get a major, major update so hang in there and put up with the crudely represented vegetation that lets dialup users and lowpower video card players participate. Note to new players trying the free 7-day trial membership: Your avatar in world will appear with a green name indicating that you're a 'new guy' - ask for help using the chat engine, follow other experienced players around so that you don't get killed too quickly, or practice in the training area. Bad habits learned from silly twitch games will get you killed quickly just like it would have in 1939. So download and check it out - and see you ingame!

This is thw worst game ever. I can't believe the fanboys who come here and try and get more players. They have about 5000 players left. This game is dieing a slow death. It should have never been released. World War II Online is know as the worst release of a Massively Multiplayer Online Game ever. It's in the history books. It takes 10 min to get to a battle then you get killed in 1 shot. Spawn camping, lag, 1993 graphics. Pass this game up. Don't bother to try it. TRUST ME! - The Troll Alliance

Game is getting less and less fun as they go on and add more patches. It has become nothing but a campfest at the spawn points. If you in a building half the time bullets pass through walls and kill you. Time to battle is outragous unless infantry but then your spawn point is camped.

Is the great strategic real time game I have ever seen before. It is not Quake or MOH. You need strategy and team work here. If you want just stunning graphics and massacre shoot this is not the game for you. But if you like strategy, team working and real battlefileds action. Buy IT!!. The learning curve is very slow. Don't expect to play for 1 hour and know how it work.

awesome game. people that complain about graphics only play games for graphics, not for the actual gameplay. if it's fun, it's fun, and the graphics are good enough to keep it somewhat real looking. Also, if you don't have a fast enough computer, get one, iMacs are not for serious gamers, and this game is.

why do people keep making games like this? it is so similar to other games, with a bad control system and boring graphics and nothing new to offer. i could swear that it is a 1997 playstation game. that was six years ago. dont even download it to look at it. dont download it for any reason. except maybe to test yout peripherals.
