Mullvad is a VPN service that helps keep your online activity, identity, and location private. Mullvad uses a variety of technologies and methods to ensure user's security on the web.

- DNS leak protection
- Teredo (IPv6 over IPv4) leak protection
- IPv6 tunneling as well as IPv6 blocking and leak protection
- OpenVPN on a range of custom ports, including but not limited to 53/udp (DNS), 80/tcp (HTTP), 443/tcp (HTTPS)
- Only supports the VPN protocols OpenVPN and Wireguard
- Does not block authenticated SMTP
- Does not block P2P
- Blocks SMTP port 25/tcp because of spam
- Our data encryption is AES-256
- We run our own public key infrastructure (PKI)
- We support SSH tunneling, Shadowsocks, and Stunnel through our bridge servers
- All our OpenVPN servers use 4096 bit RSA certificates (with SHA512) for server authentication
- All our OpenVPN servers use 4096 bit Diffie-Hellman parameters for key exchange
- All our OpenVPN servers use DHE for perfect forward secrecy
- OpenVPN re-keying is performed every 60 minutes
- All our OpenVPN servers offer all available data channel ciphers on all ports, including AES-256-GCM, AES-256-CBC, and BF-CBC. AES-256-GCM is the default.

Not sure why MacUpdate's Mullvad page is so out of date: v 2022.5 is the latest.
This remains a terrific, speedy VPN service. My favorite bar none.

Update. Now running Mullvad 2021.1 over 1GB/1GB fiber, updated today.
With the VPN active, my upload/download speeds are ≈800/800Mbs. That's good.
Without the VPN, the speeds are generally 935/935Mbps.

This is the very best and most flexible of all of the VPNs I have tried. The support is outstanding. It might not be as pretty as some but it is deadly effective. Only minimally slows down downloads or uploads. Many ways to configure. Catalina perfect. Low RAM and CPU usage. Regular and frequent updates. Does not require any personal info for purchase or registration. No ads for itself or anyone else. Dump the rest and give this Mullvad a serious try.

Very pleased with ( Swedish ) Mullvad's privacy policies, convenience and, in particular, speed. There is relatively little speed degradation compared with other VPN services I have tested, probably about 15-20%. I am usually on a 1GB/1GB fiber connection.
In my own testing, I had problems with VPN speed degradation with other services often >30-40%. Not sure why; not worth troubleshooting. Mullvad shined, so went with them.
Recall, VPNs have significant overhead which impacts practical speed levels.
