KnockKnock2.1.1

31 December 2019

System scan for potential malware.

Overview

KnockKnock shows you what's persistently installed on your Mac.

Malware installs itself persistently, to ensure it is automatically executed each time a computer is restarted. KnockKnock (UI) uncovers persistently installed software in order to generically reveal such malware. If the item is an executable binary, KnockKnock automatically queries VirusTotal with a hash of the binary in order to retrieve any information.

Actually this is a note to the developer, Patrick Wardel, since I did not find a way to contact you thru your app. After opening the zip file, I went to slide KnockKnock into my Applications folder in the HD. I got the OS notice that moving it there required an admin PW. However, I accidentally clicked "Cancel" instead. So I slid the program back to Applications and was ready with my PW... BUT I didn't need it this time. KnockKnock nestled itself among my other Apps without the Admin PW. I seriously believe you should look into why this happened. BTW, the scan found no problems. Thank you for your program.

Not working. When launched, I click the scan button and instead of running it opens to the developer's web page: objective-see.com so does not run at all. Tested on an OSX 10.8.5 mac as indicated it runs on

This is a must have utility for all Mac users, that checks all Login Items, kexts, LaunchAgents, etc. (which may be installed without your knowledge). There is a VirusTotal integration and certificate info if item is signed. KnockKnock is constantly updated and I thank the author for sharing it with us.

@Macupdate. Please, update KnockKnock to the latest version 1.8.0 (6/6/2016). There are 7 releases since v1.3.0, which you still list.

This software is quite useful in showing what has been added on to one's system and the interface is very clean and easy to understand. I look forward to improvements to this software.

This provides an excellent breakdown of all the locations Malware may insert itself into an OS X system, highly recommended! Worth looking at their other programs and the developer has an excellent PDF presentation on OS X startup and malware.

I like it! This nifty little app quickly scans yours system and displays a lot of helpful information about all those little "hooks" that over time can creep into your system and clog things up. Each item it discovers is listed, and its malware status is given (I had none), which is its primary purpose. Even without malware, seeing the scripts, plists and daemons that accrue in one's system is a terrific boon to anyone who's seen their Mac's performance degrade over time. The interface is a little quirky; I'd describe it as either "modern primitive" or "primitive modern." :) It looks different from most Mac programs, but the information displayed is presented in a readable, navigable manner, and the program does what it says it does, and does it quickly and efficiently.
