An advanced browser made with the power user in mind.

Overview

Vivaldi is a browser for our friends.

We live in our browsers. Choose one that has the features you need, a style that fits and values you can stand by. From the look and feel, to how you interact with your browser, every aspect of Vivaldi can be tweaked and customized. You’re in control. Online privacy is more important than ever and how your browser handles sensitive data is crucial. Vivaldi doesn’t track or store any of your data. Managing hundreds of tabs is a breeze, and built-in tools like Notes and screen Capture mean there’s no need to hunt for add-ons.

In the past six months Vivaldi has slid into position as my 'everything browser'. Mac, Windows, and Android all solid and synced. Once M3 is implemented (updated version of Opera Mail), which is in the offing, my workflow will be consistent across all my devices and a perfect thing will be created. Hopefully you will have gotten hip by then. But my breath remains unheld. Some like to muck about forever...

For anyone having issues with v3: it looks like it's mandatory to clear browser data (History > Clear Browsing Data). I had a new trial with v3.2 and it froze quite immediately, anything I did... Now everything seems to work again.

Bad luck with my new trial of v3... At least it launches, but I immediately had issues that I have not with v2.9, even with local files! I believe it's the recent versions of Chromium that are faulty as I also have issues with Chromium browser. :-( Chromium 79 was better than 8x...

This browser phones Google just about as much as Chrome, so where's the privacy bit come in? I installed it to try it and once I saw Little Snitch flipping out while the browser was idle I kicked it to the curb.

Today's update addresses "Exceptionally slow to startup with 10.13 or older" Can an admin please delete the "reviews" left by those unable to wait 90 seconds before running to cry? They are not an actual reflection of anything except user's impatience. Certainly not of the software in question. Thx!

ALERT! Some users have "back installed" version 2.x .... this is not a good idea, as versions 3.x supposedly address security issues. Back-rev'ing puts you at risk. I've removed Vivaldi and from all my clients if/until they release a version "3" that doesn't result in a gray screen.

After weathering a whole mess of issues (video and others) Vivaldi finally comes into it's own as... a middling Opera copy... Which I guess isn't surprising, more that it feels unnecessary. It does have one plus, it's not owned by a Chinese financial consortium. But personally, I'm not sure if that really makes up for it's many, many, many minuses--namely, features... Still, it's nice to see that version 3 has built-in ad and tracker blocking, even though Opera has had those for over a year (and most users were using extensions for these features anyway). But who knows? Version 4 could include Chinese-free VPN, cryptowallet, easy sync with the mobile version, text selection tools, etc. Certainly by version 5...

Considering the recent improvements (integrated profile management and historical video issue fixed), I am reevaluating Vivaldi as my possible browser of choice: it's a perfect mix between Firefox and Chromium. Amongst the Chromium based browsers it's almost the best, only surpassed in speed by Chromium itself on some heavy page. It has so many customization options that you can spend some time before finding the right setting for your need. For example, if you use Last Tab extension on Chromium (for not closing the window when the last tab is closed), you won't need it here: just check an option in the Tab Management prefs. If you love round tabs, just modify an existing Theme and set the roundness, etc. I'm not yet convinced by the Browsing History only accessible through the Side Panel, but I'll get used to it. The Profiles in Chromium, and now in Vivaldi, are so easily accessed (not like Firefox!) that you can use them as dedicated sub-browsers (one for Facebook, one with no extensions or only some of them, one for a bunch of tabs that you always use together, etc.)

Problem with the developers. The latest version is often NOT on their download page, but only available via the browser update window. Not smart. This is what got Cook-era Apple in so much hot water. Don't release it if you are not ready to put it on the main download page of your site. We are not guinea pigs.

Whomever designed this browser (Vivaldi) is a moron. The Valvaldi browser constantly crashes. I'm using Mac High Sierra 10.13.6 OS. As soon as I installed the Valvaldi browser my other browsers would sometimes crash which had NEVER happened before. I uninstalled Valvaldi and the problem is now solved. The Valvaldi browser is useless, at least on a Mac. Don't waste your time.

I salute the new integrated profile management (finally!) but the eternal issue with some videos not playing deserves one star less.
The copyright argument may be valid until a certain point: penniless browsers such as TenFourFox have managed to find a workaround with external libraries installed by the end user!
My guess is that Vivaldi doesn't want to spend time on finding an alternate solution.
Still a great browser, though, provided you're not relying too much on video... ;-)

This browser came to me as I have been a longtime opera user; in most cases you have an updated Opera; the developers are from the "old Opera" before it went to other hands. Installation is simple, and straight forward; you are asked as how you wish the browser to be set up; tab placement, color, and other setup options. As soon as this is done open the preferences, and set it up to your liking. You have a zoom function, and it uses Chrome extensions, like opera, but without the extension to install chrome extensions; Vivaldi has that built in. It is "rock solid" since I use my computer very conservatively, may be the reason, on my end. An interesting fact; opera "crashed" when I installed certain extensions; Vivaldi did not. As I have Cerebral palsy, Vivaldi, has the same accessability features as the version 12-16 of the old Opera. It does not have a built in VPN; those who have a requirement for that will find many VPS on the Chrome Store. I gave this browser a 5 because it meets the needs of the disabled; I also am a member of the Vivaldi community as I was the "old opera"

I was once a confirmed Camino user and had never really warmed to any of the alternatives, but Vivaldi has won me over. Like Camino, it just feels right... someone else has written; "intuitive" and I agree. It is fast, simple and renders pages better than the rest. I like the function to hover over an unopened tab and see the site. I have added all the chrome extensions I need and of course the bookmarks come over quite easily. There are still features I have not tried and that is fun also... trying new things.

Nice to have a Chrome based browser without my computer being "bewitched" by Google. ;-) I fire it mainly when some site doesn't behave well on Safari or Firefox, or when it needs Flash (I uninstalled Flash NPAPI and installed the PPAPI version instead — I was pleasantly surprised 'bout how little websites are still relying on Flash...) My main Firefox extensions have their Chrome version (1Password, Adblock Plus, Ghostery, NoSquint Plus, Speed Dial [FVD]). I had a few glitches with the favourite toolbar, a few versions ago, it looks ok, now.

It was fun to use it for a while - for the variety of extensions, for color tabs... well not necessarily for speed. But after autoupdated to v 1.2.4 it works a bit crappy, gestures are screwed up, it is even slower on start up, closing the last tab is a funky business... and more. So... who knows, maybe with the next update it will become usable again.

I tried Vivaldi v1.1 which is officially out of beta, but at this stage I just can't start using it. Here are some of my yearly observations: Pros: - Resembles old Opera browser which may be interesting for original Opera lovers. For me Opera Presto engine was and still is (with heavy pages) the fastest one. Vivaldi is Chromium-based browser as well as new Opera. - There are a lot of options, allowing customization not seen in other browsers. - You can add Notes making instant screenshots of web pages. Cons: - Very slow startup. When I click on the Vivaldi Dock icon, it's starts about 2-3 times slower than Firefox (and may be 4-5 times than Safari) . It's just unacceptable. (When it starts I can't notice any difference). - I can't remove the Startup page (tried any available option, including Homepage "about:blank"). - Notes don't save current page URL. Adding it manually is not that easy and is still very buggy (URL sticks on a new note). - Screenshots (at Notes) cover only the visible area. For example Firefox makes whole web page screenshots. - Uses Google DNS 8.8.8.8 that I can find any way to change (I'm using another DNS). - Make sure that you visit Privacy options as there are some, you may not like. - Colorful tabs (that appear automatically in the main web page color) may be appealing to some, but for me they are too distracting (most probably this can be disabled in options).

Nice to have a full featured browser again, Vivaldi is my default browser. I would like to see a couple features from OmniWeb, such as being able to add a search engine by putting the cursor in a page's search field and then clicking an icon on the browser's activity bar; and the ability to bring a text entry field forward from a page and resizeable, and lastly per-site preferences.

Also I'd prefer when closing a tab the focus go to the next tab instead of the previous tab.

I've been using this as my regular browser for a while now. It's like a breath of fresh air having a browser again that supports some user configurability options - I haven't felt this at home in a browser since OmniWeb and Opera 12 faded away. If you like vertical, rather than horizontal, tabs as I do, it''s easy to set up in this browser. Overall, this is the cleanest browser UI I've seen in a long time. Still has some large holes in functionality in beta form, but I'm giving it five stars for the excellent UI and the amazing effort the devs seem to be putting into this. I had no issues getting set up on the Vivaldi forums, and the devs seem to be actively attempting to resolve issues reported by users there. Sounds like they should read their email more often, though, based on other comments.

I have now sent a total of five E-Mails to the developers including one a few minutes ago. Nil response to all of them. I would recommend, based on their very poor customer service not to use this browser.

This is a great Browser with great potential but marred by the total lack of response from Vivaldi support. My login activation code for their forum did not work so I have so far sent three E-Mails over 4 days with total lack of response. If this is how they are going to go about business, they may as well shut up shop now. Very disappointed, especially as I do like the browser.

I'm always on the lookout for a faster browser that will suit my requirements in a timely fashion. My personal criteria is (1) Will it Print pdf's properly (2) Can Bookmarks be added quickly and be readily accessible (3) Is it supported by 1Password. Hopefully this browser will fit the bill when finished. I used to use Opera "back in the day" but as the Vivaldi team have pointed out , its lost its way. Good luck guys I look forward to a finished polished product.

Current version, OS 10.10.5, opens two windows at once, and if you close one, both die. This browser needs some work.

The description is big on talk and the browser is equally as big on disappointment.

This is incredibly promising for a technical preview. There is no question that the finished and polished version will be amazing. I didn't really understand how awesome this browser was until I started customizing this and playing around with the "Quick Commands".

It's nice to know that while this uses the same Blink engine as Chrome, it's code is not based on the same technologies as Chrome that's the reason you can put the address bar and tabs anywhere you want them or even have visual tabs like the old Opera. Vivaldi is built entirely on web technologies like Javascript, CSS, React, Node.js, Browserify, and a long list of NPM modules.

Simply put this browser really has it's own unique identity and will have plenty to offer power users. Can't wait for this to enter into beta stages and then we'll also be able to use Chrome extensions :-)

They had their own ideas? They innovated? There's nothing in the blurb they supply that gives even the slightest hint what these ideas and innovations may be. Come on, guys, you can do better than that. There's got to be SOME bait on the hook.

Cool, but utterly useless without the possibility of applying extensions. I wait.

Deal Breakers: 1. No way to give feedback, without joining some annoying Forum! 2. Blog Site was in every language, other than English, horrific! 3. Froze while importing Firefox bookmarks, had to force quit! 4. Bookmark Manger was excruciatingly frustrating, worthless! 5. Ask for "Chromium Safe Storage" Keychain Access, without explanation! Has some of the bones to build a fully capable Default Browser, further down the road. Their Mission Statement sounds great, wish them a bright future, with much success! I'll check back in the future, Ciao!

This is a tech preview, it's not an official release. Don't expect it to be prefect, but it's still pretty nice. Quite a few things are still 'coming soon.'
