Music tag editor.

Meta helps you manage your ever-growing digital music collection. Use it to easily edit information such as a song's artist, title, album, album cover, etc. It supports editing of most audio formats such as MP3, MP4, M4A, FLAC, Ogg, OGA, SPX, WAV, AIFF, and a variety of metadata formats including ID3v1, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.4, iTunes MP4, Vorbis comments, and APE tags.

  • A polished, intuitive user interface that adopts OS X's standards
  • Write metadata to multiple files at once (Batch Tag Editing)
  • Remove all metadata from files (Strip Tags)
  • Change typecase (capitalise, upper/lowercase, titlecase), strip underscores
  • Rename files based on their metadata or instead, convert filenames to metadata
  • Find and Replace characters, words, or strings in metadata, with support for regular expressions (patterns)
  • Add selected tracks to iTunes, or refresh their metadata using a simple keyboard shortcut
  • Automatically generate track numbers
  • Benefit from built in file management operations (Move, Delete, Reveal in Finder)
  • Interface is compatible with Retina displays

Album covers can easily be set or exported via drag-and-drop, and it is possible to configure Meta so that it scales, crops, and compresses images each time a new image is set, so as to keep your audio files' size to a minimum.

Will this eventually get lookups from MusicBrainz or Discogs? I wish there was a save/next button on this instead of having to click on each individual song.

Needs a 'select column' function. Otherwise, it's extremely time consuming having to scroll-double click-delete every single piece of data. Tag editor has this function and it saves so much time. Just a suggestion.

Excellent App! I've tested a couple of applications of the genre but never decide which one to use until finally buying Meta. Besides beautiful it really works! It works easily and intuitively and I can edit many tags quickly and effortlessly. This is currently my favorite tag app. Highly recommend!

There are many Meta Tagging Apps out there of which I believe Meta is the best. They all do pretty much the same (at least for my basic needs) and I can't really see a huge difference in functionality. So it comes down to UI Design and Workflow. Meta definitely looks the best. Currently Macupdate shows an old screenshot of the app. Make sure to take a look at the current version of Meta. I also prefer the workflow of Meta, because you dont have to save everytime you change something.

I'm not really concerned about looks that much, although I'll admit they do help with choice. Meta DOES NOT connect to auto tagging databases like MusicBrains and therefore is a secondary option for me. I am purchasing due to the Album Artwork component and a couple other options. Check out Amvidia Tag Editor for a great fast auto tagging app. Tag Editor will handle Wav tagging as well, unlike Jaikoz which I also tried.

Does it allow you to view ID3 frames as data – like Media Rage's 'Show Data Dump'? Here's an example of what I mean: -- MP3Tag -- originalVersion = 0x04 originalRevision = 0x00 originalFlags = 0x00 v1Version = 0x10 originalSize = 12355 musicDataStart = 12355 musicDataSize = 2611850 frameCount = 4 -- frame 1 -- flags = 0x00000001 category = 0x00000000 kind = 0x54495432 v3ID = TIT2 v2ID = TT2 originalFlags = 0x00000000 dataSize = 50 dataPtr = 0000: 004B616E 74746F72 69706F69 6B61202D |^Kanttoripoika -| 0010: 2054756C 6976756F 72656E20 7265756E | Tulivuoren reun| 0020: 616C6C61 2068656E 67697474 E46DE473 |alla hengitt^m^s| 0030: 73E4 |s^``````````````| -- frame 2 -- flags = 0x00000001 category = 0x00000000 kind = 0x544B4559 v3ID = TKEY v2ID = TKE originalFlags = 0x00000000 dataSize = 3 dataPtr = 0000: 003964 |^9d`````````````| -- frame 3 -- flags = 0x00000001 category = 0x00000000 kind = 0x5442504D v3ID = TBPM v2ID = TBP originalFlags = 0x00000000 dataSize = 4 dataPtr = 0000: 00313230 |^120````````````|
