1.2.3
14 August 2017

Multi-touch image viewer.

Overview

LilyView is a lightweight, mutli-touch-friendly image viewer that's handy and doesn't get in your way.

LilyView Features
  • Lightweight: There's no image library to load, you just browse images in a folder.
  • Chromeless: No controls are visible until they are really necessary.
  • Multi-touch friendly: You can literally touch the image when using a trackpad, but LilyView works just fine with keyboard and mouse.

What's new in LilyView

Version 1.2.3:
  • Fixed bug: images sometimes appeared pixelated and "jaggy" (the bug appeared only on some Macs, usually when you zoom out the image)

I really like LilyView’s simplicity based on its uncluttered interface and the ability to use gestures. But… I tested this app with two different window managers with snapping functionality: Window Magnet ($5) and Spectacle (free)… With the first app none of the shortcuts worked while with the second app they worked but buggy. I really appreciate if the developer could add full support to Window Magnet’s shortcuts and other window managers with snapping functionality. Despite of this detail... This app is just awesome!

LilyView is a simple and easy to use application ... and gives you the ability to manage your photos. And I think the team of this application will bring more tooling thereafter

The automatic zoom feature is not functional correctly. It can only shrink a large image to fit the screen, but failed to enlarge a smaller image to fit the screen. "Keep Zoomed" is not a good choice since the image may differ in size. And there is a potential bug in full screen mode with auto-zoom enabled: press Opt+0 will enlarge the image to fit the screen, but it will automatically shrink back to actual size the moment you release Option key. Sound like a joke, but it did happened.

We received your email but you didn't specify your address, so I'm glad I can answer you here :)

It is intentional that the automatic zoom does not enlarge small images bigger that 1:1. This is because for most images (such as photos) it would not add any new information but only add pixelation effect, which is in most cases just a visual noise.

For the special case when you need to view a series of small images, such as icon artwork, the "Keep Zoom Level" works better because it allows you to view all pixels in the same scale. It would just not make sense to stretch a 128x128 icon to fit the entire screen.

The Option key is used as a modifier to temporarily view the image at its actual 1:1 scale and also pan it using mouse. Then when you release the key, the image returns to its previous zoom factor. This may be handy to view some details on an image quickly. If you simply need to change the zoom factor to actual size, use Command+0 (not Opt+0, this short cut is not supported at all).

Thanks for your feedback and feel free to e-mail us if you have questions.

As a photographer, I love the option instant 100% zoom. I didn't know about the trackpad pan with option. Thanks for explaining it here. You might want to add some documentation to the app or the menus to help people find and understand this functionality.

Crashes on launch (solidly) on Mavericks 10.9.2. I have de-installed/re-installed - same result.

This is strange, please contact our support. Does the problem still persist? We've had no complaints from other users so far.

Arcsoft Photo+ is $2 at the Mac App Store (can't choose it in the "Similar Software" chooser above) and works as well as LilyView. Trouble is, I really want to support the dev team behind Daisy Disk. Just FYI.

Hi, Prince_Isaac. With LilyView, just as any of our apps we don't support the race to the bottom. We don't believe that $3 price difference is a big deal for an app you use several times a day. Photo+ is an OK app, but from our biased view (as you can guess we're keeping an eye on all real and potential competitors) LilyView already provides better experience and the difference will become more and more obvious with each update. Anyway, having alternatives is good for all of us. P.S.: thanks for your support and feel free to share any opinion about our apps. @Software Ambience

Arcsoft Photo+ is no longer sold in the Mac App Store. Obviously, the race to the bottom doesn't work. And it results in apps that are not supported. Arcsoft Photo+ was last updated 3 years ago. And it is now sold outside of the Mac App Store at $10.

Lilyview on the other hand continues to be sold in the Mac App Store. And its price hopefully supports its developers.
