CargoLifter

1.4.6
18 January 2016

Automatically uploads email attachments to the cloud.

Overview

Note: CargoLifter is no longer for sale. Its functionality is now included in Feigeist's MailButler, whose link can be found int he following paragraph.

CargoLifter--which is now a part of MailButler, the complete assistant for Apple Mail--automatically uploads your email's attachments to the cloud (e.g., Dropbox or YouSendIt) and adds the corresponding links to the end of your email. Thus, the recipient can decide himself when he wants to download the files and more importantly his mailbox does not get filled with attached files. Your colleagues and friends will thank you!

Brilliant app. Of course with the advent of Apple's Mail Drop it has become somewhat obsolete. However, I would still prefer Cargo Lifter over Mail Drop anytime. Currently, Oct 10 2019, Cargo Lister is not compatible with Mac OS X Catalina (Mail 13) and I hope so much that Cargo Lifter would be updated to become compatible.

Feingeist (the developer) has apparently killed off this Mail plug-in and is integrating it into a package called MailButler. So, even if you paid for this plug-in, there will not be any future updates (the developer's web page is devoid of all information), and there are apparently no discounts for upgrading to MailButler. Worst of all, MailButler has a limited "free" version (up to 20 uses per month), but will be charging MONTHLY fees for their "professional" and "corporate" offerings of MailButler. Very saddened by this situation.

CargoLifter is now to be found as one of the various functions of our new product, MailButler, - that's true. For those, however, who already has the plugin on their computer: it will continue to serve you within El Capitan. As to the discounts for upgrading to MailButler, we will have a special offer for existing customers. More details will be revealed soon.

I was unhappy to see this too. I really only need/want the CargoLifter function, and did happily pay for it. But I'm certainly never going to pay almost 6 euro per month (!) for just this one function, or frankly for the whole suite. I guess these folks are aiming at the corporate market, so good luck with that! Subscription software for very complex apps does make sense, but this is just a money grab. I'll just use the 'free' one (which I already paid for) until my usage exceeds the 20 per month. But there's no future in it.

@Eveningclouds, we're glad to hear that you like CargoLifter. It will continue working and remain compatible with El Capitan. As to MailButler, it is not only meant for corporations, although we have a flexible plan for them, too, but also for individual users. The free plan, which includes 20 actions per month, as you fairly mentioned, offers them the opportunity to use absolutely all features of the program, so if you only need CargoLifter, you can use all your 20 actions for the attachment upload function. Another option, the professional plan, is meant for users, who are ready to invest in their time saving, since MailButler increases their efficiency of working with emails.

I asked the developper of CargoLifter several times and for more than two years to fix a major bug. They always promised but never delivered.

Dropbox & GoogleDrive integration works, OwnCloud not—upload yes, but sending is a no-go with error message. Too bad.

I said I will rate this app five stars when we can customize the text. Well, we not only can customize the text but also customize the full content using HTML! And I think it isn't mentioned anywhere but this nice little tool also support ownCloud, making it the easiest, best and most secure file attachment handling utility for mail! Thanks a lot.

The latest version (1.2.4) of this app is currently being rejected and disabled by the recently updated Mail.app (v7.1). Hopefully ChungwaSoft responds with an update quickly.

Oops, spoke too soon. The author has just posted a fixed version. Well, close enough... I had to "sudo chown ~/Library/Mail/Bundles" before the installer would succeed, but now it works like a champ.
