Features
  • Easy and intuitive books management - Just drag the folders containing e-book files from finder and drop on the Clearview shelf, all the files information will be imported to the library quickly, then you can browse, search and read the books from shelf easily. With books folders and reading lists cooperating together, you will find that books organization is such an easy thing.
  • Tabbed style window make reading smooth and efficient - With several related books organized in the same window, you do not have to look for and switch between the book windows everywhere. further more, with a shelf tab and book file tabs living in the same window, browsing and reading is so easy. Restore multiple closed tabs, too!
  • Powerful searching capabilities - You can find a book by keywords quickly, and can also search in a book for specified texts, and sort search results by page or rank.
  • Plus:

Now, if only I could use my own fonts instead of being forced to use the few in the fonts list.

I have used Clearview for YEARS and it is my favorite reader on my Mac! It does not try to own my books like damned iBooks, which hides and encrypts books I bought elsewhere, (I believe this is theft as I am unable to recover them). Not so with Clearview - It lets me organize my books as I see fit and works with all but those inflicted with DRM. It works with PDF, ePub, MOBI, and CHM, which equals or exceeds any reader I am aware of. Clearview does have a a few oddities I'd like improved; more fonts, easier navigation within folders, but I consider it a great find. I was very happy to see this update as I was also afraid this program had been abandoned. I looked up the authors web site and it is Japanese only, which seemed a little unusual considering he is marketing in the US, The update reassured me that the program has a future.

iBooks, or Books as it's called now, has never hidden or encrypted books you bought elsewhere. Want to recover them? Drag them for the Books window to the desktop. Done.

Favorite reader, hands down. Handles epub, mobi, pdf, and more. One reader for all major formats. Thanks for the update! I was afraid this app had been abandoned.

I like how it has its own library, which BTW does not need to copy into a separate library, like iBooks. I think it has some chinks in its armor, and have written the developer, but no response yet. I'm going back and forth right now between Clearview and Murasaki Pro, and might just use both of them without making this some kind of a contest. My hopes are that, since it has a browser feel, it would be able to have a hot-key to shift between tabs. It can be clunky to load up sometimes, but hasn't crashed. It has a good text search engine in reading mode, and the library function can search for title, author. I can edit the book metadata if needed, I was using Murasaki Free for research papers, and it'd been accepted so far for citation. Good app - just wish the developer would respond. 我也用中文给他写信。。。

This app is just fantastic. I am looking for an iOS and windows version if the app developer decides to support those platforms too. The annotation feature is the star attraction.

Clearview can open and display ePub and chm files. There must be something wrong at your end.

Yes it can, just not copy-protected files.

Clearview proved better than iBooks in a number of ways: consistent window size, only one place to read ePUBs and PDFs, organized UI, and tabs.

Better than Kindle and iBooks! (Only the font looks a tiny bit less sharp.)

Over time, the developer has built this versatile e-book reader into a really solid piece of software. It has been my default reader for the past year.
