Access all the files on your Mac from web or iOS devices.

Overview

Spotdox works with Dropbox to allow you to see all the files on your computer from anywhere. Its simple. Run the free OS X app on your Mac. Then from any web browser, or using the free iOS app you will be able to browse all the files on your computer, mounted servers, etc. Pick a few files to upload to your dropbox account, so that you can download and share them with other people.

Note: $4 per month, other prices as shown on our site.

If you can run the OS X app on your Mac (multiple Macs supported) and know how to login to Dropbox, then you are ready.

Never forget a file on your computer again.

Enterprise - Replace slow and clumsy VPN or remote access solutions - see http://spotdox.com/enterprise

iOS companion app is free and available at Apple's iOS Store

First, the trial is not 2 weeks but only 10 days. Second, the developer has not bothered to inform MacUpdate that the price is now $24/year, thus my rating for Value. At $3, it was probably a superb value. At $24/year, I can set up Automator actions that put the important files I need into dropbox, and then if I forget, use LogMeIn FREE to access my home computer to put the files in dropbox. Thus the value is limited, since that is all the program does.

Back to My Mac only works when trying to get to your Mac from another Mac. Spotdox does this only from iPhones and and any web browser.

Thanks to Macupdate for updating the information here. There are other ways to remotely access files on your computer, some of them free. We are trying to make a solution that is secure, simple and reliable, while not costing a lot. This price is per Dropbox account, not per computer, so you can use it on all the computers that you run your Dropbox on. Spotdox can connect anywhere that Dropbox can connect, so you can get back to a hotel room, or anyplace you are visiting, etc, no firewalls or worrying about port management on routers, etc.

This is an awesome application for the money. For only 3 dollars and a free Dropbox account, you get what other applications cost five or six times as much to provide (or more, as some are subscription-based). Some features that would be nice is better security and an iOS version. Dropbox is protected by a sole password, not the best security at all. If Spotdox offered encryption for files being transferred it would be better. And being able to access files through my iPad would be great as well.

We take security very seriously. The whole system is designed with security in mind. We use Dropbox's security. They offer two step verification, which means that before you are allowed into spotdox, you need to both enter your password AND have your phone handy and enter a text message from that. They also have tools so you can tell who is accessing your Dropbox account and from where. All transfers between our servers and your computer and whatever browser you are using is done using https. http://spotdox.com/security-and-privacy/ iPad access works, just use Safari and visit Spotdox.com and login. --Tom Andersen (developer)

I'm not sure what you mean about phone verification. I've never been asked for that with Dropbox or Spotdox. My main concern regarding security is that, with Spotdox running on my Mac, anyone who knows my Dropbox login and password would have access not just to my Dropbox folder but to EVERY file on my Mac (since Spotdox can move any file into Dropbox).

You can enable two step verification on Dropbox, which means that in addition to having to know your Dropbox user name and password, an attacker would also have to have your cell phone in his hand in order to log in. Two step verification is an option for Dropbox.

$2.99 per month to access my own files? I can already do that using Dropbox and its iOS app. Sheesh, that's almost as bad as the banks charging us to withdraw our own money. Good luck with this one.

Wanderer, I think you don't understand what the app does. It allows access to all files on your Mac, not just those already on Dropbox. It also allows you to offload folders from Dropbox down onto your Mac, freeing up Dropbox space while away from your computer.
