Tried opening the app (downloaded via MacUpdate) for use with Mojave. The window opened and then quickly closed each time. Possibly a compatibility issue?

My guess would be that you have a very old version of MachineProfile which would exhibit what you've described. I would suggest, if you haven't already, is to delete the old version you have and re-download the latest version of MachineProfile from either your Micromat online account page or through Apple's Mac App Store. Thank you for your support.

Great Product! Disappointed that support was dropped for 10.6. It would be nice if a link to the last 10.6 compatible version were posted.

If you would like the last Mac OS X 10.6.x compatible version of MachineProfile, here's a link:

ftp://ftp.micromat.com/pub/machineprofile/machineprofile_127.dmg

Unfortunately, we had to drop Mac OS X 10.6 support in MachineProfile since Apple's Mac App Store no longer allows the submission of applications that contain a 32-bit architecture. Sorry for the delay to your posting.

Supposedly free, but you have register an account and give away both your personal and billing information (credit card details). Scary!

That is (always) the case at the Micromat site. Seems this can be avoided by downloading from MacUpdate.

New version (1.3.3) today. And Micromat says:
"MachineProfile FREE
The application is delivered by download.
Please Provide Your Billing Information".
— Still scary! Avoid this by downloading via MacUpdate.

Further, had to signup for account at Micromat. After all, Safari cannot open download with 'unknown error'. Grrrrrrr

More than one way to skin a cat! Should have done this from the get-go---Open app & get updates. :)

@ Sgilbert: If you've got a non-App Store version of Machine Profile, you should already have a Micromat account. If you don't, that means you probably got it originally from the Mac App Store. Updates there are sometimes a day or two behind MacUpdate. If you wait for the App Store version, you won't get the wrong version or have trouble opening the file; in fact you won't have to open a file; the App Store download will open and install the app and leave nothing behind. Fortunately the Micromat version and the app store version of this app are exactly the same so it doesn't matter where you get it.

We like that it displays the installed firmware version. Might there be a way that it could tell us what the latest available firmware is, so we would know when our firmware is out of date?

MachineProfile is a really handy tool. It quickly provides a wealth of information, all in one window. And it is free. (or nearly so, see below)

I am particularly thrilled that it supports Snow Leopard, as well as the more recent OSes. The ability to do this shows the high level of expertise that Micromat programmers have.

Besides the obvious uses, it is also is handy to have in Deploy Studio Netboot Sets. That allows us to quickly get information about the unit that is about to be imaged or under test.

However, there is one area of information, that would be handy for it to include, that it does not. It would be really nice if it included information about any drives in the unit.

For any hard drives, or SSDs, it would be nice to know their capacity, make, model, and interface. For optical drives, it would be nice to know their type, make, model and interface.

But still, a great program.

With respect to the ability to download controversy. The download link provided above, by MacUpdate does seem to work. But, I have a MacUpdate account, so what I get may be different from what someone without an account gets. One can understand the concern, as MacUpdate has been accused of substituting their own installers, which may install extra, unwanted, stuff.

However, Big Johnson does seem to be correct. I went to the Micromat web site, and I was unable to find a download link that did not require one to submit information, or use the app store. If it does exist, it is well enough hidden that most of us would never find it.

Obviously, Micromat does have the right to do this, even if many wish that they would not. And if this were a piece of junk, instead of the high quality program that it is, I doubt any would bother to complain.

Drive data is a planned feature, and should be available in a future update, we hope by the end of the year.

Machine Profile is apparently available now only from the Mac App Store - which may be why the MacUpdate link doesn't work. Unfortunately, the App Store has not been working all that well recently so moving the app there is not such a smart move - not to mention not telling MacUpdate about the change. FUBAR

Sorry for any confusion, but Machine Profile is indeed available on our website. To get it, click the 'Free' button on the bottom of the Machine Profile product page, or the store page.

@ Micromat: Except that it's not. Your web site uses the same link as MacUpdate and it doesn't work any better there than it does here. And, in order to get the free download from you web site (if it actually worked) one has to go through the whole shopping cart business. No doubt that works for you but it's far from customer friendly.

Check the link before assuring us the app is available.

WRONG ANSWER MICROMAT!

The "Free" link at the bottom of the page leads to a page with a "Buy" button and a price of "FREE." http://tinyurl.com/qfmg8nj

Click the Buy button and you're taken to a Cart page. http://tinyurl.com/2sz3m7

Click the Checkout link and you're taken to a page where you must register, including your name, address and product serial number (how am I supposed to have a S/N for an app I don't have yet?).
http://tinyurl.com/nufnzh3

So Micromat, obviously your definition of "free" means "in exchange for your personal information."

NO THANKS! THAT'S TOO EXPENSIVE!

btw:
The MacUpdate Download Button is working, the App is free (and no personal information was asked.) It trys to phone home on port 80 (maybe to check for updates and/or to fill the last page "learn more")

The download link at the top to this page works just fine. Try it. You don't have to go through the app store.

That may be, but you still have to jump through hoops to download it directly from Micromat's website.
I just tried again and nothing has changed.

MU often hosts files on its own servers, thus circumventing the downloading of additional crapware that may be added to an app, and providing a direct download to bypass a developer's website.

That doesn't excuse Micromat for requiring registration in order to download their free app.

There is indeed a link to the Mac App store, but there is also an entry for Machine Profile in our online store - where it is available for free. We realize that not everyone is willing to provide their personal information, and understand if you'd prefer not to use the app as a result. Hopefully this helps.

I already mentioned the download link in your site online store, and said you make people register to get it.

The "Free" button leads to your online store where there is only a "Buy" button.
Th Buy button leads to a Cart page where there is a Checkout link.
The Checkout link leads to a Checkout page., where you can either login or provide your billing information.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

This MacUpdate description incorrectly identifies v2.0.5 as compatible with Snow Leopard. The 2.0.5 installer Alerts to a minimum requirement of Lion on the startup disk.
