Email Archiver Pro3.8.4

09 November 2017

Save your Apple Mail messages as PDFs.

Overview

Use Email Archiver Pro to create an archive of all your emails, or just a few folders.

Email Archiver Pro works with Apple's Mail for OS X, storing your emails as PDFs. It makes them compatible anywhere you can open up a PDF, not just with Mail. Emails are stored hierarchically in the same way that your email is organized in Mail.app. Email archiver makes no changes to your Mail Folders. It simply scans through your thousands of email messages, creating a PDF for each one. The PDFs created have the full email header embedded into the PDF for searching purposes. Also, all attachments that are displayed online, such as photos, etc are displayed in the PDF. Any emails with attachments have a folder with the same name including the attachments right beside the PDF. PDFs use the subject line and the message ID to create a unique, readable file name for the file. Subsequent scans with Email Archiver only add new emails, and thus perform faster.

Email Archiver Pro is written for OS X 10.9 or later. Please contact us if you need a version compatible with an earlier version of the operating system. We also have business and enterprise versions that offer more flexibility and more support options.

Most helpful

I used Mail Archiver to back up 30,000 messages, which it did without any problems in about 30 minutes. I now have PDFs of each email message stored in folders by year and month, with the date, time and subject in the title. I like that Email Archiver is designed to never delete anything, only archive new messages, so now I can delete the messages out of Mail. Although I can search with Spotlight or another app, I find the search within Email Archiver is pretty good. The only thing missing is the ability to limit searches by a range of dates, so for that I'm knocking off half a star. Otherwise, I'm more than happy with it.

I recently gave this app a low rating because it of an authentication issue with Google but since then I checked out their support page to find a workaround. Now I am backing up like before. Having used this app for a couple years now, I rely on it and do recommend it for backing up emails.

The app no longer authenticates Gmail accounts: "Sign in with Google temporarily disabled for this app. This app has not been verified yet by Google in order to use Google Sign In." And when I tried to report this to the developer their own contact form refused to work. To top it all of, the app simply won't continue until I delete the Gmail accounts.

I have used EAP for a few years and it does what it should - creates PDFs of your emails = I. use it for my iCloud accounts plus two others I have and it backs up all the emails in those accounts, or I can set it to back up a folder or other source of email files. Then, when I need to find something I use HoudahSpot and do that = the only problem for me is that I end up having several duplicates of emails [ie the beginning number is the same] and maybe that's my poor creation of settings but I just delete the extras when I wish.

I have been using Mail Backup X for months. It lets me Backing up my emails along with archiving. It doesn't let me look up for alternatives. The developers have known it well what a professional needs with emails, especially on a MAC platform.

Some trouble getting this software to work exactly for my needs. One account always says: "A stable connection to the server could not be established", and I'm sure my settings are correct. Doesn't work on older OS's which I originally planned to use it for. Easiest working with Google Mail, which I have successfully used it for.

I´ve been using this program for about 2 yrs, and I´m satisfied with it. It´s fast and until to day, reliable. Today it starts to give an error message indicating this is a TRIAL VERSION and is designed to only run for a few minutes as a sample. I mailed Palmer Anderson and asked for help, and it came after a few minutes. Never experienced such a quick answer, and now it works like a dream1

I purchased in 2015 for the version 2.8.4. It did works in the beginning and I was happy about it. But in 2016 it never worked, so I uninstalled it. I am wondering if my purchase would only apply to that particular version. It would have been a waste of money if so.

Is there any upgrade path for v.2 users to v.3? I bought v.2 via MU in July 2013 and it did a pretty decent job; v.3 looks like a significant improvement too...

I purchased this and installed using MacUpdate Desktop. However, when I try to actually use it it runs for w while and then gives an error message indicating this is a TRIAL VERSION and is designed to only run for a few minutes as a sample. I did not buy this thinking I was getting a neutered "trial version." Who do I contact to get this straightened out - MacUpdate or the developers of Email Archiver Pro?

Mac update nor delivering - Great application.

Hi, on Feb 11, I repeatedly tried to purchase the promo (it was $9.99) and repeatedly got the error message "ERROR 13 parser error SyntaxError: JSON Parse error: Unrecognized token" and at the same time my account was showing an email address that I do not use anymore, despite my repeated modifications on my account. So, is MacUpdate of some value, or just making me loose time? I've been a beta tester for many apps, recommend apps and systems (and previously sold face to face) to a captive audience of 3000 named customers, what should my conclusions be about trying for one hour to get 2 $9.99 copies and let them run on typical customer setups.
Also couldn't find a way to talk/write to you at MU: bad, should be obvious, or loose user's input.

By the way, the app is great, fast, extremely efficient and an incredibly simple and flexible solution to a badly-solved set of issues, so, should I encourage the usage of MU or point prospects to Palmer Andersen guys?

shows 3 Variants of Email Archiver Pro, all of them much more expensive then this, and, whats far more important:

Only the Enterprise Edition for 499.99 has unlimited E-Mail Account support.

So, what are you selling here?

@mupromo: you should clearly say what is covered for the special price

I have been on a constant look for years for an application to export my overflowing Mailbox into. One that was easy to work with once the mail was imported. I could export to other applications successfully, but the other archivers were not really user friendly in my opinion. I wanted the interface to be as if I was using my Apple Mail. Well, Thanks to Mail Archiver, I have my folders, and viewer window... I can drag and drop to move and rearrange mail. I can trash unneeded mail. And the best thing of all, which was a bonus... I had over 7gigs of mail in my Apple Mail which I know slowed everything down. I used a mail duplicate script but apparently it didn't get it all. Well Mail Archiver did, it automatically removes duplicate emails. My mail went down from 7gig to 1gig. Everything is still there. Oh, Im also excited because now that I have my Archives, folders, etc in the order I want them in Mail Archiver. I'm going to make the same folders in my Apple Mail. Then select Mail Archiver to automatically save my mail. The software support is wonderful. Mail Archiver is one of those apps that I can't live without now.

Taking old email offline is a good way to protect your privacy. So after testing a few apps I found Email Archiver Pro to be the most powerful utility for bulk-processing mailboxes into readily accessible files. I was able to flawlessly convert 22,000 messages in a couple of hours and the archive is actually smaller than the original mailbox. Each PDF is stamped with the complete mail header and gets the same creation date as the original message. So now I can quickly find specific messages and organize files in the Finder or using whatever software I want. The app can also process remote IMAP accounts that aren't running in Mail.app... something others can't do. Although I discovered some crashy bugs running on 10.9.5 the developer responded immediately and updated the app overnight. Really nice folks!

However, since updating to v. 3.x, my serial number that I have got from MacUpdate seemed to not work anymore, and I could not even start any action. I can't archive anymore. I hope the developer will pay attention to this. I do not want to spend double amount for same apps.

Great application. One of the very best features is quite clever: they include the header information (sender, etc) in really tiny text in the PDF. Why? Cuz that makes it searchable. If you just print to PDF you lose that info, which can be pretty essential. I'm not sure how this version relates to email archiver pro, or what happens to this license when version 3 of email archiver pro is released; it's in beta now.

Just tried the trial version twice and it crashed both times. Or maybe it was just trying to tell me that I need to buy the full version as the crash came both times after it popped up a box giving me 3 options--quit, buy or ok. The box said that I needed the full version for the @email addresses. All I was doing at the time was letting the program find my emails. The progress bar was moving from the left to the right. So, was it a crash or do I actually need to buy it to see how it works?

Price is good, but even $9.99 is expensive if it doesn't work. Running 10.8.5 on Macbook Pro 2.53 GHz Core i5 with 4 Gb of ram & only 2 other programs running - Safari and TextEdit.

I have anywhere from 60,000 to 98,000 messages active on my mail server. I'd have a LOT more but with email archiver I can archive mail to PDF and trim down on the really old stuff. I run the archiver about once a week and every few months I toss out older messages in the folders with the most messages. With 60GB of archived mail I can keep my client with only 6-8 GB of data wasting less space on all my devices. I've been using the program for many years and the developers seem to keep it maintained for current OS updates. Well worth the $25 to know all my mail is archived safe forever.......

The program has potential, but it looks like its is not developed anymore. There is a potential big market for a really good email archiver, but I have tried MailSteward, which I don't really like, although scheduling is an option Email Archiver does not offer. For both EA en MS I have licenses, but I still haven't found the best solution for my needs. The thing I do like about EA is that all my mail is saved in pdf format. But I doubt EA is being development anymore so I look again for a permanent solution. Donn't bet on EA as a permanent and future safe solution.

Hangs (second time): files scanned 89000 - files handled 88537 - total 123997. Sorry, but is there an maximum of files EA could handle? First it had to work. Second i wish to select which mailbox and which folder is archived. In general easy to use - because you couldnt select only destination drive and directory. I hope it works anytime - because i need such a software since years...

Did not realize when reading the description of this app that it archives all your email. You cannot, for example, choose to archive just one folder (which is what I wanted to do). I rarely feel that I've totally wasted money on an app, but I sure did this time.

This is a really useful app and the header information at the end of the pdf is a great addition. My eyes are normal but the text is added in a font size too small to read without expanding the page. I can appreciate that for most people this is not an issue but if you have to manually search through header info a small font is a real pain. This app still gets five stars because it is well done and the header font size problem can easily be solved by the developer allowing the user to choose the size when archiving. Even a setting which has two parameters, normal and small, would suffice. I hope the next version will have that feature.

Great little app for archiving your entire Mail.app contents. I was using Filemaker but that creates bloat, as with any database solution. Email Archiver converts each email with all downloaded attachments and html layouts, as PDF. Easily searched with Spotlight or other Finder search engine.

It's simple and works as advertised. The only issue is the size of the archive. I just archived a 1.4 meg mailbox, and the resulting archive folder is 14 meg. I'm giving it 5 stars since it does what it is supposed to. Am I missing something as to what the benefit of archiving is?

last night sometime late and after midnight on May 5, i saw Email Archiver was listed as free in the Store News app — said it was previously $9.99US. so i clicked on Email Archiver in the Store News app which then opened up the App Store app and it was, and still is as of May 5, listed as free. i couldn’t find any good reviews in the App Store app so i came here to macupdate and at that time there were no reviews and the app was listed as $9.99US — but it is listed as free now. the developer’s website says it’s $9.99US and only available at the App Store. so this is all confusing. if you think you might have a need for an app like this one, i would dl it now while it is free and you can always trash it later if it doesn’t do what you need it to do. i’ve been keeping an eye out for a good email archiving app as of late and was hoping i could find some good, thorough reviews for Email Archiver but have found none. there is a pretty straight-forward 5-page pdf here: http://www.spotdocuments.com/downloads/EmailArchiverManual.pdf but i was really wanting some first-hand accounts from people who have used this app. i like the way Email Archiver claims to save emails as pdfs. the manual also tells how to keep Email Archiver from making duplicate pdfs for imap email accounts like google. i have about 7,000 emails in 7 different email accounts and would like to archive each email account in its own folder. i downloaded Email Archiver and would be interested in any feedback from someone who has used it — i haven’t yet. i would also be interested in hearing about any alternative archiving email clients from users, free or paid, as i am ready to make a move to start archiving my emails. Email Archiver looks promising but i don’t think it can archive individual email accounts yet. as a side note, here’s an interesting article on how to make gmail play well with Apple Mail: http://www.macworld.com/article/157846/2011/03/mailgmail.html#lsrc.nl_macweek_t_crawl i know macupdate has the best reviewers and people who know really good applications. it is my hope one of you will wonder across my comment and have some time to leave some information on email archiving applications.

Great idea for a backup solution, but I am having problems. Tried using it under 10.6.5, but the application keeps getting stuck. A semi-transparent black window pops open, I press the "Archive" button, then I get an evolving dialog: 50 email PDFs created ... 100 email PDFs created ... But then the app seems to stall (at one time at 100 emails, next time 350 emails) and nothing happens. Activity Monitor doesn't see a problem, no hints in Console. Tried quitting Mail and Email Archiver and launching again, and it got once again stuck at 350. Any hints? Would be a great utility if it worked.

Well I hope you like it. Feel free to test it. I wanted to re-iterate that this does not alter any files in Library/Mail, or make any changes to Mail.app or its prefs, etc. I have 70,000 emails archived with it, which took some hours the first time through, but now runs in about a minute or two every day. One other reason I made this is that old emails just have this habit of disappearing. A slip on an IMAP setting can for instance erase lots of email, which mail.app will dutifully recreate on your hard drive. --Tom
