Torchlight is the boomtown where lies the Ember. Ember is the essence of magic and the keystone of alchemy; it lures the restless with promises of power and riches. Miners burrowed deep beneath the dirt streets of Torchlight, discovering veins of the ore richer than any found in living memory- but they were not the first to covet these mines. The miners broke through into the buried past, a dangerous labyrinth of caverns and ruined civilizations, twisted creatures and the bones of those who came before. Evil bubbles up from the depths and threatens to overrun this town as it has so

Neat game ... think a slightly scaled down version of Diablo. Can't find the mac updater for it at the URL soecified ... all choices lead to PC updaters. Guess we've been left in the lurch again.

I found this game quite interesting in ways that properly can't even be explained...Easy to play, has a fairly complex story but then again no one really cares about the story. They just want smash the shit out of a goblin's head.

Thought, it does lack some features; i.e there is no Multiplayer...co-op or even online play....So if you really like sitting in the dark.

Buy this game :3

No seriously the story is actually good :D

I brought Torchlight from the Macupdate Promo because it looked promising (even if there is NO DEMO FOR MAC). This game ist really beautiful and after a long time I played Diablo II this ist a wonderful eyecandy and fun gameplay. I would recommend it without a doubt ... BUT

This game is ONLY ONLINE!

Every time you start Torchlight the app ist going online "to check the serial number" again and again and again...!!

So if you plan to play Torchlight in you vacation where you may not have online access: Forget it - it just doesn't work.

This is true. And there's absolutely no excuse for limiting us to playing only when there is an internet connection.

I'd avoid buying Torchlight as a consequence. A pity as otherwise Runic seem to be doing some good work.

Having been a big fan of the Diablo series since boyhood (and having played the hell out of the originals when they first came out), I can say with out reservation that I'm a fan of the series.

Torchlight has the feel and mechanics that we're all familiar with, and then ups the ante by adding gorgeous graphics, great feel and play, tons of interesting monsters and so many special weapons/armor/items, that you'll start drooling every time you take out a big group or a boss.

The developers also deserve a hand for removing many annoyances from this kind of game. For instance, simply running over your spilled gold collects it. You're always at 'run' speed, with no stupid stamina to usurp. You have a familiar which can attack enemies, pack items, and even be sent with them to town to sell your extra booty while you continue playing. Very nice touch.

In all, a very cool set up story wise, slick interface, beautiful graphics engine (runs at 1680 x 1050!), and enough thought put into it by guys (a couple of the lead programers previously worked on the Diablo series) that know what we want in an action adventure game. Solid game, and a steal at $20 or less (sometimes on sale).

There is problem with downloading the game. Encore registration form does not work. It would be nice if you provide file from your servers or give me working external link to download.

Don't hope for an answer. The support is very slow and sometimes you just don't get an answer. In the download section they have "Demos" but still haven't realised that there are MacUsers now: http://www.torchlightgame.com/download/

Evil bubbles up from the depths and threatens to overrun this town as it has so many others. The heart of a villain has infused the Ember, and his darkness seeps through the veins. To survive, the townspeople must break the cycle of destruction; they need a champion who can destroy the evil at its root. Removing the source of the rot may purify the Ember, but it is a long and perilous journey. The champion must battle through rock and fire, through lost cities and ancient tombs, into the palace of the villain himself.

The adventure is set in the mining settlement of Torchlight, a boomtown founded on the discovery of rich veins of Ember - a rare and mysterious ore with the power to enchant or corrupt all that it contacts. This corruptive power may have dire consequences however, and players set out into the nearby mountains and depths below to discover the full extent of Ember's influence on the civilizations that have come before.

Players will choose from among three character classes, and venture from the safety of the town of Torchlight into randomly generated dungeon levels, with a huge variety of creepy monsters, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. The endless randomization ensures a long-lived gameplay experience.
