ArchiveMaker overview

ArchiveMaker (was ArchiveMac) supports archiving and backing up large files to CD and DVD. It can split large files and directories so that they span multiple discs. When restoring, the original file or directory is restored regardless of how large it is. There is no file or directory size limit.

ArchiveMac helps you to archive and backup data from your old Time Machine snapshots so that you can be extra safe and save old versions of files before Time Machine is forced to erase them and they're lost forever.

Is your hard drive is filling up with huge media files? Have you run out of room because of large video files? Need a way to save those precious memories that fill up your drive with files that are too big to archive to a CD or DVD?

ArchiveMac allows you to archive those files to free up space.

Is your Time Machine backup volume filling up? When it does, Time Machine will warn you that it needs to delete old backups. What if you want to keep a record of old versions of files before they are deleted forever?

ArchiveMac helps you to archive data from your old Time Machine snapshots so that you can be extra safe and save old versions of files before Time Machine is forced to erase them and they're lost forever.

I had been using it constantly, very useful and worked well. Unfortunately, it does no longer work with Sierra. Too bad!

It says in the description on macupdate "cd dvd or blu-ray", but I don't see blu-ray support on the developer's site. Is there a mistake somewhere?

finally a light-weight archiving application that spans data across multiple dvds! i've been looking for this app for maybe 10 years! I used to be a long time retrospect user but that product went down the toilet years ago. I migrated to a small time app called 'impression' for far too short a time because the developer dumped the project and no leopard support, so needless to say i've been in a holding pattern for a couple years.... enter ArchiveMac ArchiveMac has all that i'm looking for, and NONE of the bloated proprietary junk i don't want. I could theoretically retrieve all my data using open source tools years from now if i have to (try doing that with retrospect). But thats a last resort, since ArchiveMac has a great restore ability. in todays world everyone keeps squawking that hard drives are the only way to backup.. but live backups are not the same as ARCHIVING, its totally different, i don't personally want my old digital camcorder dv files sitting around taking up all my hard drive space.. why? because i already have them mastered as a playable dvd, but i want to keep the raw source files but offline, somewhere on a shelf where if i need to get them down the road i can. A lot of people are afraid of the longevity of optical media, i say as long as you don't buy no-name garbage, you'll do 10 years easy if you store them properly. I've been doing this for 12 years now and i'm not losing data.. if you'd like a dollar for dollar comparison of hard drives to optical media just look at the price of a 100 pack dvd spindle these days.. $19.99 thats 450 gigs of space. try and find me a 500 gig drive on newegg for 19 dollars. Optical media is still where i'm staying for Archival purposes anyways.

I found this application, and discovered a bug which meant archiving failed if the source data had a file of >2Gb in it. Emailed the developer and he found the bug and fixed it. Great! Sadly my time ran out before I was able to to confirm a multi-DVD burn.

I really like the file spanning function of this product - that keeps me from having to manually figure out what files will fit on a specific media. I like the archive list being put on each disc in the archive as well so any disc in the set can be used to find out what was archived on the whole set. I don't have to find disc 1, for example (unless that's the disc I need to restore a file from!) The tie into time machine is nice. Nice product!
