I bought V2 from MUPROMO Bundle in december '07. Than I upgraded. I changed My Macbooks à few times, then now, on my Bran,d new MBP 13' the plugin don't work anymore because of to many activations. I let a message on the web site (support section), and I get no answer. I anderstand that it's a feature againt piracy, but I have bought This software witch I can't use anymore. Then, as the devellopers come here sommetimes, can they tell me how I can reset the activation count to use the plugin I HAVE PAID FOR? The activation count is mentioned nowhere. A software that I can't use is nothing but useless bytes. Raymond //All apologies for my poor english, I'm french// Regards

If like me the recent iTunes update only left your eyes for crying, try this semi-satisfying solution:

- Quit iTunes
- Find the iWow.plugin in Library/Audio/Plug-ins/HAL and trash it (authentication ensue)
- Put it again at the exact same place
- Launch iTunes. Voilà

Here's the catch: you'll have to do it each time you quit iTunes, so make a shortcut or a script. Worked for me with iWow.plugin 3.2 from July 2011 — iTunes 12.5.3.17 — MacOS Sierra.

DO NOT BUY! They limit the number of times you are allowed to re-install it. After having to perform a fresh system install and entering my serial number, I get the message. "Maximum number of activations exceeded."

Apparently, they now sell what's called "Audio Essentials," which appears to be a system-wide approach using an application that installs into the Applications folder. The problem is that the "demo" does not allow you to tinker with any of the settings. So, I have no way to know how this thing might actually sound. What's the point of that, exactly?

SRS iWOW is one of the best things I've ever had on my Mac, after a quick and super easy installation it really improves the sound quality to a level that your ears won't believe. Support is also top notch (though I needed their help only once as it's rock solid) ! I tried some other sound improvement software (like Hear) and must say that I reverted to SRS iWOW after just a few minutes. First, others do not support external audio hardware like my beloved Creative X-FI (sound christalyser). Second, others aren't as straightforward, too many settings may confuse even experienced users. And, like me, you may well experience problems with other software that use audio (Skype etc...) Bottom line : The few extra bucks you'll pay for SRS iWOW over Hear are well worth it ! As far as I'm concerned I highly recommend iWow, all my audiophiles friends say the same !

At one time I thought that iWow was the best thing for audio refinement. But, it was limited to just iTunes. It did make the sound some what better through my desktop speakers but it just lacked the oomph that the sound needed. Then I came across a program called Hear made by Prosoft, makers of Drive Genius and decided to see if it would make a actual difference and to my shock my desk to speakers were sounding like high priced speakers and I was totally blown away. Not only was it tuned for iTunes but anything else that used audio and it could be totally customized to your taste. One day a friend came over while I was playing my iTunes and asked how I was getting that type of sound out of my speakers? I told him about hear and showed him the inter face and turned it on and off to show the difference. It was totally like night and day. As soon as I turned it of my sound went flat. Now just to let you know these were creative speakers that cost me $100. Now I have my Mac playing through my entertainment system and still use Hear 1.0.5. iWow, you were great tool prior to Hear but Hear blows you and any other sound enhancing tools out of the water. Hear even tell the user ti disable any sound utility you may be using before implementing Hear so you do not create a conflict. This is a combo review and comment comparing what was when and what is now. Hear is the technology of the future for sound on the Mac. It has a ton of presets for all sorts of categories just to get started and once you go over the manual you will learn how to tweak the setting or create your own. If iWow is to survive, it is going to need some major work if it expects to compete against Hear. It is a pity That Mr M. the editor at About this Particular Mac (atpm.com) will not let me join and bring life back to what is now a newsletter. End of Line...

It's a shame that a software developer isn't capable of updating his software so that paid customers can enjoy it without hassel or worarounds. It, also a shame that they sill selling it while it isn't working. No more SRS software for me..... Use the itunes equalizer can do the job as well!

I have really enjoyed the enhanced music experience provided by SRR iWow Premium. My frustration came when Apple released iTunes 10.4 and Mac OS X Lion, and SRS did not have their software ready for these releases. I find it hard to think of any good reason for SRS not staying on top of this. Other software developers had their software updated before Lion was released. One feature I would like to see enhanced in this software is more presets. Since I cannot run the software now I cannot relate exactly how many or what the presets were but they definitely needed to be expanded.

Note about updates: Checking for updates is broken. It will tell you there are no updates when there really are. The only way I know to get the updates is to download the free trial, which is the full program. It will ask for a name and e-mail address but they are not verified -- I just give support@srslabs.com as my e-mail address :-) And don't believe their release notes either -- there are lots of versions and changes not listed there. Also, if you are getting an error on your console about an invalid iWow plugin in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL then delete the iWow.plugin that's there, then run the latest iWow installer. Yes, they are sloppy, sloppy sloppy. But the program does work. Eventually.

I have a license for Hijack, and I use it. It's a fine program. That being said, I didn't think iWow was nearly as bad as everyone's making it out to be. I do agree that the loss of saving your own presets is a problem. But overall, the sound quality has been good, and I can still customize it. (Again, can't save it; that is a drawback. I can't sing the praises of iWow, but I don't think it should be eternally damned, either.)

I'm with Maclover. When iWOW went belly-up I realized the phenomenal sound palette I had with Audio Hijack (in addition to everything else the app offers). Customize the effect parameters to YOUR ear and listening space, save your effects design, then hijack the audio. You don't have to use the record feature. You can tweak the audio very precisely.

Funny, I dropped iWow long ago just for the reason of this bugfix. It would never load correctly on my MBP. Not missing it, really. Compared to the previous version the UI on this vers.3 one stinks. If I wanted Windows I'd run it. No difference between vers.2 and 3 other than new, ungainly UI. SRS: When you have a problem, fix it in a timely manner or lose users. Also, don't change a good thing. Take a lesson from the platform (MacOSX) you're trying to target. There's my grousing in the morning.

I had purchased this and it is not bad at all especially for crappy 128kbps mp3 or for rapidly enhancing terrible podcasts of even worse quality etc.. However now I found a much better solution.. I now use Audio Hijack Pro for any audio I want to "fix" and it accesses all my Pro Audio plugins and I got a few very good mastering ones and so on (and allows to configure any presets my little ears enjoy) so I can REALLY tweek my sound system-wide !!! Be it to enhance VLC, Quicktime, System, iTunes etc etc..

This plugin is basically useless. It basically just adds more bass; you could do as much with iTunes' built-in equalizer. Worse, the uninstall script included requires Rosetta, which has to be installed in you're running Snow Leopard. The idea of installing Rosetta just to install a stupid iTunes plug-in sickens me, but I may have to resort to it. I've searched my Mac for both "SRS" and "iWow" and the only result that is returned is the folder in Applications that only contains the aforementioned useless uninstall script. I also manually checked both the /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plugins and ~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plugins folders and neither one contains anything related to this plug-in. It reminds me of the old days on Windows with sneaky spyware hiding in random places. My advice: stay away with a 10-foot pole. It's not worth the money or the hassle.

The trial version of iWOW produced a pop-up window that would not go away (as reported elsewhere). I reported this twice to SRS via their web page without reaction. Eventually (I don't know why) iWOW burst into action - and indeed WOW! Terrific. The next day the pop-up reappeared and I had to force quit iTunes and de-install. Looking around, I then found Astound Sound. Better system wide implementation and I found all genres including large orchestral and chamber choirs astoundingly clear on both earphones and large speakers. Only Katie Melua doesn't respond to treatment because their is already a lot of reverb/echo and this gets confused. Finding this site convinced me not to go further with SRS.

I had purchased this software a few years ago. Then, an upgrade came out with special pricing, and I emailed multiple times without luck about a link for that pricing. I gave up-I thought the software was good when it worked, and I wanted to try it out again, but didn't want to pay full price again. I just tried again using their site, and I found that if you register, using the old email address that you initially purchased with, you get the link for the discount upgrade price. 5 minutes later, I'm enjoying the software again-it works well, and is dynamic, which is nice. I've been using the excellent Audio Hijack Pro, but the settings on that are not dynamic, and do not change based on the music played. I find these two pieces of software work well together, and I recommend them both

The technology is oustanding. Even the presets for different speaker types (internal, external, headphone) are fabulous (though my iMac seems to fall somewhere in-between). This is a great investment for anyone wanting to automatically improve the quality of your digital audio and get the most out of your high kbps, without paying hundreds of dollars or more for a state-of-the-art sound system (or, in addition to, why not?). As for customer service, some have complained about the activation limitations with no customer support. After using iWow for years, I began experiencing activation issues today (I boot externally between two machines), contacted CS, and got a helpful reply TEN MINUTES LATER. They've got my support!

SRS iWOWMAC 3.1 is disabled by the installer of Snow Leopard 10.6.2 as being incompatible. I hope, this time, there will be a free update to the next version. 3.1 dates back to June 25, 2009. Obviously, an update is needed. Was it this plug-in that was responsible for iTunes to freeze now and then when downloading podcasts? Maybe yes, maybe no.

I've bought iWOW twice, both with the bundles, but every time something upgrades in Mac like iTunes, Snow Leopard, whatever, the iWow stops working and requires a upgrade purchase. Imaging if Microsoft Office is charged in a similar fashion to users, it would cost thousands of dollars. Therefore, my conclusion is that this app's average cost of ownership is more expensive than that of Microsoft Office and majority of other software because it requires endless upgrade purchases. The company takes every opportunity to draw your blood whenever a Mac OS update, iTunes update, version update, even security updates. It is so ridiculous. I would suggest everyone gather to boycott this company and make sure they have some kind of free upgrade policy clearly defined. I am not saying there should not be upgrade charges, but I am asking for a reasonable, fair, legitimate upgrade charge when warranted.

I'm pretty impressed with how iWow makes music richer and warmer, but I have a few large misgivings about the support behind the product. I downloaded the free two week trial of iWow to test it out. When you open iTunes an iWow window pops up asking for you to register it or you can click a Demo or Cancel button. The problem is that neither the Demo nor the Cancel button works. I have to force quit iTunes and then reopen iTunes and when the iWow window pops up it does actually work. I have to do this every time which is just ridiculous. I wrote to iWow's support right away about this and two weeks later I have had no response. The other day they posted a coupon code for iWow to their blog and I was willing to overlook this issue and buy it. The site asks you to login at checkout and I logged in with the login I had created when downloading the trial, however it didn't work. I even had it email me the password twice to be sure and tried to re-register with my email, but it said the address was already registered. It was at this point that I gave up. I really wanted to give them my money, but this is absolutely ridiculous.

Can't even demo the software on my Mac Pro running iTunes 9 on Snow Leopard. After launching iTunes it just pops up with the registration box, the only working buttons are Check for Update, Buy Now, and (presumably) Register. Clicking on Demo or Cancel seems to do nothing and leaves me stuck on the window, go figure. Although I was able to demo it on my old Mac running iTunes 9 on Tiger and the plug-in works pretty well.

I've had it with iWow. I've paid for the original, then all the major updates. I originally thought it was pretty cool. It could make my system sound a lot "better" with the speakers I had. But now, it won't even let me use iTunes! Every single time I try and put in my license number, it gives back the message "Maximum number of activations exceeded." Not unlike others on here. Then it will not cancel out of the window! Hit cancel, ... Nothing. Try to switch to iTunes. Nope, it won't even let you do anything with iTunes. That window just will not go away. ALL messages to tech support go into this big file at the company, and every week they have someone delete that file. It's the only thing that I can think of that they are doing because I've written many times, and I've been ignored many times. Save your money. If something goes wrong, they'll sit back and laugh while ignoring all communications.

I'm going to begin by apologizing to anybody that has experienced problems upgrading to SRS iWOW 3.1. Version 3.1 was a free upgrade for those that purchased iWOW 3.0. I noticed that many of you were trying to upgrade to 3.1 from a 1.X or 2.X version. There is an upgrade fee to do that. We try very hard to respond to every inquiry we receive regarding our software, but we have a very small support staff as we are a small company; but to make right by all any of you that have experienced difficulties with the paid upgrade. Please send an email to macupdate@srslabs.com with your name, the version of iWOW that you are using, your serial number, the problems you're experiencing and I will personally make sure that all of your questions get answered and forwarded to the appropriate people. For everyone else that was unaware of 3.1 being a paid upgrade for non 3.0 users, I would like to offer you a discount on the upgrade. Please use coupon code: SRS10038 to upgrade to iWOW 3.1 for only $5.99. Please follow the link to the SRS store below. http://www.srslabs.com/store/store/comersus_addItem.asp?idProduct=15&quantity=1 &utm_source=SRS10038&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=SRS10038

Yes, mysteriously this morning my iTunes crashed upon opening and would only function by uninstalling iWOW 3. I am very disappointed, as I have owned iWOW since version 1 and really like the product. Please SRS, send out a fix soon for this!

I`ve had the SRS iWOW product for itunes on my Apple macs for several years now. Versions 1 through 3 have all performed as promoted. In my estimation, Version 3 (when compared to V2) offers moderate improvements in definition/separation, better overall balance, in general a crisper, more clear, less "over driven" tone. I did prefer the version 2 window (the curious "wave/pulse" graphic aside) to the current one. With respect to the purchase itself I had no issues, no reason whatsoever to complain. The download/upgrade ($6.00) worked fine right from the start. btw. My current/main mac setup is as follows: 1 year old i-mac (2.8 duo) w. re-tread (local garage sale purchase for $10.00) JBL "Creatures" For me, the iWOW plug-in has really made all the difference.

I too am suffering from the NSInternalInconsistencyException bug, where iTunes crashes on starting, and that ever since Feb. DO NOT PURCHASE this app without trying it out first. If you have this same issue you have to uninstall iWOW to get iTunes to work again. Have notified SRSLabs of the issue and they tell me "engineering is looking into it"! RIGHT!!!! and how long is that now? I know Apple has a bad habit of suddenly changing the way its apps work, but for this to take so long and there be no official acknowledgement of the problem NOR a fix is a BAD sign. You reading this Michael, customer service dude @ SRS?

Looks like a lot of us are disappointed with version 3.0. I wouldn't mind so much, but I can't even find a download site for 2.0 :( trashed the DMG by accident when migrating and the "link" on SRS's site to download version 2 (it's in the FAQ at the bottom) isn't even a link. Couple that with the fact that the link on this page to upgrade to version 3 from 2 has expired. Macupdate bundle owners of iWow can't use SRS's upgrade system as they are not registered on their site :/. FYI You do get a bit of text to say to contact them about upgrading if you got it as part of the Macupdate bundle, but so far - after 7 days - I've still yet to get a response. Suffice it to say I won't be using this any longer

I too was perfectly happy with version 2.02 of SRS IWow that I received in a MacUpdate bundle. I too installed 3.0- much to my chagrin. Didn't add much. Had the same trouble as you all in reinstalling version 2. However, I finally was able to do so- don't know if it is a fluke- but perhaps it will work for you: 1. Used the unistaller for version 3. 2. Trashed the com.srs.iwow.plist file from my user library preference folder. 3. Trashed the Install SRS iWOW.pckg file from the receipts folder from the Library at the Root Level (Macintosh Hard Drive). 4. Emptied trash 5. Restarted 6. Reinstalled v. 2 If I am right, you have to trash not only the user preference file for SRSIWow- but the install package in the system library receipt folder entitled "install SRS IWow.pckg"- tricky, indeed. Especially because the pckg name starts with install & seperates the SRS & Iwow- rather than concatenating them like srsiwow is found everywhere else- foiling simple searches. If I'm correct, mighty devious, indeed! Oh, yes, including the uninstall app that works like sh*! is a mighty fine touch!

So before I asked them how to uninstall the app, I had posted a question on the SRS online comment form, asking what functionality I would gain by upgrading. Here is the response which I received just now from Jim Mercer: ====== FROM: JimM@srslabs.com Hi The new version has preconfigured presets more plug and play , if you are happy with version 2, I would stayput Regards, Jim ====== There you have it! No reason to upgrade, unless you want things more preconfigured for easy digestion. (Meaning, you get less control.)

I as well found that the new iWOW didn't seem to offer more than the previous version, and also had the problem of not being able to revert back to the prev. version. SO, I contacted Michael Bingham. Here is what he said: ====== Hello Rees, I'm out of the office for the rest of the weekend, but get back to you on Monday to discuss reverting back. Thank you for your support. Until later, Michael Twitter: @MichaelBingham @SRSLabs ====== That is not very convenient that he is away until after the sale. Sounds like all of you who are hoping to reach him about anything won't get an answer until this sale is over. It's really too bad that they weren't really set up to receive and respond to comments and problems when they knew they were going to get a lot of feedback on this product.

I took v.3 for a 'test-drive' as suggested in the Mac Update E-mail I received today. A $6 upgrade seemed like a good deal. After a trial period, I decided v.2 sounded just as good, and decided that I wish to retain the ability to save custom presets (a discontinued feature in v.3). So I uninstalled v.3, deleted the .plist and application support folder from my User Library, rebooted, emptied the trash, then tried to reinstall v.2. It doesn't work. I receive a message that says I can't install v.2 because I already have a more recent version installed. I should also note that I couldn't delete the v.3 hidden files automatically (using Hazel, as I do with all apps I uninstall). I had to seek them out and authenticate to delete, even though I'm admin. I checked the permissions of these SRS files and discovered they were set to root. Huh? I then head to the SRS iWow FAQ page seeking a solution to reinstall v.2. The last FAQ on the list applies: "I installed iWOW Premium on my computer, but would like to revert back to the iWOW 1 or iWOW 2 version, how do I revert back to my original software?" I click on this and discover it's not linked (anchored) to the answer at the bottom of the page. Ok, no big deal. So I manually scroll to the bottom of the page to see the answer. It reads: "To revert back to your original version of iWOW 2 for the Mac, please click here. Your original custom presents will be reinstalled for your convenience." However, the 'click here' part is not linked to anything! Dead end. I then read through the comments in this forum to find that others are having the same problem. Terrible. But what really bothers me (aside from the fact that the app installed with root permissions) is that this has the appearance of a a bait-and-switch. I can well imagine that some people might go ahead and upgrade for the discount price of $6 because it's the easiest path to get the plug-in working again. And I assume that v.1/2 owners who try out v.3 direct from SRS face the same issue and may decide to go ahead and upgrade for $10. That's unacceptable. Comments here and on other sites also point to a very spotty record of customer service with this company. I'm wondering what's going on here. All things considered, I don't even think I want v.2 back on my system now. Seems like SRS has some bugs to work out of their software and business practices.

Is there same way you can still get hold of iWow 2.0? I apparently got it as part of an earlier MacUpdate boundle, but never remembered to download it. Now when I was reminded of it and wanted to try it, it turns out the download link in the letter from MacUpdate goes to 3.0 instead, which requires another serial number. Can anybody help me?

Hello everyone, I wanted to make sure and post a comment regarding the status of SRS iWOW v3 "auto-detect" feature. It was left off of the version 3 upgrade because it did not meet our internal deadline for launch. Rest assured, it is coming in the form of a software update in 6-8 weeks. Additionally, we're sorry if you've have experienced issues with securing your product registration codes. I'm even more confused. VersionTracker just posted "SRS iWow Premium 1.0." It appears to me to be the same product as this 3.0.0.255 version. What, indeed, are they up to? And why can't someone simply recreate VolumeLogic or a comparable program? Between audio enhancers and Unsanity products, it's as if the more the Mac evolves, the more shareware de-evolves. Sad.

I just installed this update of SRS iWOW and it has major bugs. The last major update nearly two years ago was buggy and multiple attempts, including a phone call to get support were all unanswered. I got notification of this update and was excited, especially after seeing that the new plug-in was associated with Rogue Amoeba! I installed the plug-in on my Intel MacBook Pro running 10.5.6 and the latest version of iTunes, almost immediately I started getting error messages that my iPod couldn't be synced. Every time I attempted to touch an iTunes menu or change tunes the warning appeared. I've sent a message to Rogue Amoeba and removed the software, beware! Last time I paid for an upgrade and wasn't ever able to use it so make sure you try the demo before giving them any money.

A surprisingly good enhancement for iTunes! For those "qualified, registered, users" the upgrade price of $9.99, from version 2.x to 3.x of iWOW is reasonable. The simplified interface is easy to use and requires no expertise, other than a good set of ears. The sound quality is clean and vibrant. Works seamlessly with VL and iTunes. It appears that iWOW 3 will "remember" one "Custom" setting at a time; saving multiple user-defined settings is not currently available. Overall, the retail price of $39.99 (Download) and $49.99 (Boxed version) is a bit steep for a new user, however, iWOW is a good product and worthy of a try by those who enjoy quality audio from their Macs.

Beware. I've been a user since V1 but they've removed user presets from this version. I have emailed with my vote to re-instate this basic, unintrusive and fundamental functionality. Set and forget is fine if that's what you prefer but the user preset functionality of V2 in no way got in the way of that. Their FAQ page says on this that: "in order to provide the best customer experience, iWOW Premium has been designed to streamline the customer experience by eliminating the need for cumbersome customized presets." At best that's grossly patronizing to their customers and frankly disingenuous. In what way were presets "cumbersome"? In what way is the removal of one tiny interface button a significant "streamlining" of the "experience"? Less of the marketing-speak. Do they really have such a dim view of their customers' capabilities? Being able to save your preferred settings (which suit your particular speakers, program material and ear) is a basic, page one programming, useful feature, especially as there are now even more controls in the advanced settings to tweak. I'm sure the factory presets are very clever & effective but why give us all the advanced controls, if you're not prepared to allow us to save our tweaks? Please put user-presets back.

I also got "exceeded number of registrations" when trying to reinstall my version 1 yesterday. I immediately emailed support and within an hour (!!!) I have also a problem with this software I buy the code for iWOW 1.1.9 in June 2007 Than when i Start iTunes there was a massage Welcome to iSRS Labs iWow updater. So as it was a update offer and not a upgrade i click on this click here to download. After Download and install i got an error Maximum number of activations exceeded. When I install the previos version same sh.. happens. I pay for this software than comes a update link wich I think it is for free and after updating there was no way to activate the software again or go back to the previous version. On an answer from the customer center I wait since Nocember 2007. So why pay again for the new iWOW 3.0.0 and than same sh.. happens after 5 months. The plugin itself is very good put I feel messed around with me by iSRS Labs

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but where did you guys find upgrade pricing? I have a licence for version 2, but when I install version 3 and use the store link, it takes me to their store page where the only related thing I can see is something called iWOW Premium which goes for $40. Then there was the issue with serial numbers. Now the app reappears, and it's a paid upgrade? Version 2 sounded great back when it worked, but a lot of goodwill has been lost for me.

I *think* that version 2 is better. If I recall, version 2 had an "auto" preset feature where iWow would see the genre of the music you're playing, and automatically load the sound profile/preset that best matches that genre. This seems to be gone in 3? Also, if you install 3, even after you uninstall it, you cannot reinstall 2. The installer keeps saying you have a newer version on your drive (even though you uninstalled it). So if you're unsure. Don't install this. I just paid $10 for the upgrade. It sounds basically as good, but I'm really bummed at the loss of the auto preset feature.

I had the previous iWow version v.2 installed and when installing this version v.3 my previous serial number became invalid. Apparently, those of us who have version 2 now have to pay the full price for version 3 ($39.95). There's no special upgrade price mentioned on iWow's website. Version 3 wiped out my version 2 files, so I can't go back to that one. It took months before I was able to get a valid serial number for version 2 from iWow. And iWow's support has been virtually non-existent. This whole matter totally sucks! Anyone know where I can get a version 2 download, It doesn't appear available on SRS's website.

I'm not an audiophile, but I notice a huge difference in the music quality when using this program -- so much so that I bought AirFoil (as one must) in order to be able to use the plugin when playing music over AirPort Express speakers. There is one thing that irritates me, though. The "auto-preset" feature adjusts the equalizer to match the genre of your music as defined in iTunes, which is better than nothing. It would, however, be much more useful to me if it matched the "Equalizer Preset" defined in iTunes (when one has been chosen). I don't want to have to choose the "Acoustic" genre for the one song on a "Rock" album that sounds best with the "Acoustic" equalizer preset.
