SilverFast (Plustek) overview

SilverFast (Plustek) is LaserSoft's software for Plustek scanners. LaserSoft Imaging has gained over 25 years experience in the development of imaging software. In combination with a variety of innovative ideas and the usage of current software technology, SilverFast 8 has evolved into what we can proudly present as the best scanner software.

The WorkflowPilot, a unique feature, is a core element of the new software. As a kind of assistant, it guides you in the correct order through all the processing steps required for your individual workflow. Turning your analog originals into convincing scans is very simple, with complex operations becoming like child's play.

The SilverFast Preview Concept allows you to see the result of any adjusted setting in the preview window immediately. The user interface of SilverFast 8 is newly developed to current standards so that you can access all major functions quickly and easily. SilverFast 8 supports the latest 64-bit hardware, and is therefore extremely fast and efficient.

  • SilverFast SE 8 for $49 -- The straightforward way to professional scanning for everyone
  • SilverFast SE Plus 8 for $119 -- Advanced functionality for advanced users
  • SilverFast Ai Studio 8 for $299 -- The professional version with all features and highlights

Doesn't work on MacOS X 10.7 (Lion). Don't wait for SilverFast 8. Just switch to Vuescan. Vuescan's UI is basic and inelegant, but works quite well. SilverFast's UI is ugly like MSDOS, but unusable.

Use this software with the new Plustek 7600i, this is high value for low money. It comes bundled with SilverFast. Watch out to get the IT8 version. The IT8 scanner calibration is a very powerful feature for easily receiving correct colors. I recently updated to the Archive Suite version for benefitting from the very efficient workflow. This is recommended for anyone having to scan greater lots of slides.

This software is running on OS 10.5.4 now, where I do use SCSI connection on my G5 PowerMac. Performance is light quick and this software is capable of producing stunning scans from my 4x5 and 8x10 transparencies. Scanning flat art is exceptional as well ! Options in this software are leveling with most demanding requests from operator for production of high-end professional results. We are absolutely delighted using this software on our LinoScan 2650. Very good job LinoScan !!!

Well six months later and its still misleading, though it has gone down price, to the tune of 178.00 dollars. I think to boot, the price, it depends on what kind of scanner you have, the price is determined. VueScan is still the one to go with. And guess what it works with all kinds of scanners.

It's a little misleading to list "$59" as the price. The Ai Studio is $233 for my plain epson scanner. I like the autocrop, but $233 seems a little steep. Am I missing something?
