Measure distances, angles and colors in any app.

Overview

PixelStick is a tool for measuring distances, angles, and colors on the screen. PhotoShop has distance, angle and color tools but they only work in PhotoShop. PixelStick works in any app and anywhere on screen anytime and costs a hundred times less.

  • Its easy, simple and fast. PixelStick is a measuring tool you can pinch and stretch to measure anything on your screen. Use the eyedropper to copy colors in 4 formats (CSS, RGB, RGB hex, HTML) to the clipboard for use in any app.
  • Its like an onscreen virtual ruler that you can use vertically, horizontally, and at any angle to measure distances, angles, and much more just by dragging.
  • Supports the scaling in Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, and Photoshop. Also has Customized (user settable) scaling options.

Most of what PixelStick does is obvious. Drag the endpoints to change the measurement. Click the locks to constrain the movement. Launch it, play around, no more limitations to just one app in measuring distance, angle, and color.

What's new in PixelStick

Version 2.15.0:
  • Fix for 0's displaying for location of circle and square in pixelstick panel for some people. this occurred if in the system preferences:mission control the item "Displays have separate Spaces" was unchecked. this was, as you can imagine, difficult to discover. we apologize for the delay. this version solves that. the sys pref can now be set either way. you don't need to change any settings.

Sweet! Runs really lite in Snow Leopard compared to comparable rulers, like free ruler which runs at 5% cpu usage! I also like this over x-scope which I find obtrusive and with windows like ugliness. Gratitude to the developer especially for making it free.

I've been using Pixelstick for years. When I have to line up staves in a music book precisely horizontally or vertically this is my goto app! There are more complex tools for measuring distance, but for lining things up on a screen, it doesn't get much better or simpler. Good support also!

PixelStick is an inexpensive, quick and easy tool that does what it says. I’m a graphic designer and was looking for a replacement for Art Directors Toolbox. For what I need, PixelStick fits the bill and even has features I didn’t know I needed until I used them (the Screen Elements tool turned out to be a gift and shaves several minutes off a task for *each time I use it*). The color pickup tool and the onscreen rulers save me time on a job each time I use the app. An essential tool for me.

This is described as a standalone app, behaving exactly like the Photoshop ruler tool. IT Does NOT! You can only measure in pixels, there are no preferences for changing the units of measurement, so measuring in MM for example is out, unless you go to the hassel of converting pixels to other units.

Pixelstick is uber useful being able to use it with any application (esp. in Photoshop and Indesign); an instant Swiss army knife on the screen. The guides can be shown or hidden with a hot key. I find the app indispensable.

I was really excited to have this handy little app, BUT, the serial number DOES NOT WORK! Frustrated by the extract symbols surround my user name , email address and the serial number such as ((‘:, I contacted Bryan at MacUpdate support. He immediately came back with an explanation, and after depending another hour trying to make it work, I contacted Bryan again and sent screen shots. That was four days ago and he still HAS NOT RETURNED WITH A SOLUTION! I sent another email asking for resolution OR a refund. Could this be the last time I use MacUpdate? The program itself might be great, but using unregistered software with constant reminders is a royal pain. Bryan- get on the stick. Oh, I also tried contacting the developer and the page would not load onto my Mac for security reasons. Does that tell me something about this whole operation?

Does its job, and does it well. Unobtrusive. Well priced. Free version without cumbersome additions like ads/upsells, etc. Worth paying for. By comparison, this website (MacUpdate) wants me to pay them to not send me e-mail. What's up with that? Still willing to put up with it (for now) to leave a review for this great App.

Great app!! the only ruler app, that I could find, where you can measure inclined length on the screen. Also possible to set custom units, all-though not in the most intuitive way. Support via mail cleared things up for me with a great explanation, which might be added to the manual in the near future. Few minor hiccups but nothing worth mentioning, and nothing I thought would ruined my experience with the app. Definitely worth the money, and a MUST for every UI designer.
Just make sure to buy not to buy the App Store version, which isn't updated as often, but buy the newer version directly from the Plum Amazing website.

I really wish Pixelstick did what it claims to do. I've had this program for several months and it works sporadically. The issue is that the "guides" that Pixelstick generates are constantly appearing off of my screen and clicking "reset guides" doesn't seem to help. Even more troubling, I've written customer support two separate times explaining this issue and I get no response. Like I said, I really think Pixelstick could be a useful program but if a program doesn't work and customer support doesn't seem to care then it isn't a very good program.

I stand corrected. Upon further examining the interface. PixelStick does offer a way to constrain movement, albeit not via key combinations. Perhaps the current method is better; I am not sure at this point. But the feature exists. Thank you again for such a neat tool.

Wonderful. This 1.1.1 update makes this app a must have app for anyone doing graphic design or measuring on screen. The addition of scaling and drawing guides to the already excellent features, all for free, makes this unbeatable. Ver 1.1.1 only downloaded from the developers website not macupdate !!!

If you've been using Free Ruler, as I have, please give this a try. You'll find it less intuitive to use at first, but once you've learned it it's much more useful. It also doesn't burn up CPU cycles needlessly and make your fan come on like Free Ruler.
