Super Empty Trash2.3

19 May 2006

Empty Trash with root privileges.

Overview

Super Empty Trash is a simple AppleScript applet that will empty the Trash with administrator privileges. In order to do that the user has to be an Administrator, or at least listed in /etc/sudoers file.

In case of multiple volumes the user is prompted in order to choose volume(s) to be considered.

This can be very useful in case of selective deletion or removable media (like flash drives).

I will refrain from reviewing, as this did not work in OS X 10.9.1 (13B3116). Claimed the trash was already empty when there was over 500mb visibly in it.

Excellent application. I had a problem and i could not delete a file from my trash. I had tried everything. Trashit, cocktail, repaired the disk and permit ions with disk utility, rebuilt the directory with diskwarrior and tech tool pro, tried to wipe the file with techtoolpro wiie function, changed permissions, boot from a backup disk, boot from edrive, logged in from different accounts etc etc and the file would not get deleted. Then i tried this app and it deleted the file without any problem… even though it took about 5 minutes to do it. I was ready to format the disk just to be able to delete the file and this app saved me from the trouble.

My Trash wouldn't empty because it contained files that I, the administrator, somehow didn't have authority to delete. Also, following a re-installation of the operating system and a deletion of backed up files I no longer needed, there were over 56,000 items in it, and the emptying took too long just to delete the first item. I downloaded Super Empty Trash 2.3, and it deleted all but one item from the Trash, for some reason, but I was able to delete that in the normal way. If you have either of these problems, I recommend this App heartily, and with gratitude to its developer, Marco Balestra. The best things are simple, and with few features, this App is no more than it needs to be and easy to use; and because it's free, it's excellent value.
