This listing is very out of date. Cubase 7 was at 7.0.6, and Cubase 7.5 was just released.

I've been using Cubase since the late 90s, with VST24 4.0. I'm a multi instrumentalist/composer. I use this for everything, unless I have to collaborate with someone that uses someone else, so I have Pro Tools and Logic just in case.

For those people who like to bad mouth software, thee's very little difference between Cubase, Logic and Pro Tools. In fact the new Logic looks just like Cubase. Cubase works with more plugins too. I find it's easier to use than Pro Tools or Logic, and has better MIDI implementation than either of the other ones, since Steinberg was doing MIDI a lot longer.

If you can't make music with Cubase, you don't know what you are doing. If you are a glorified DJ, stick with loop software like Live, or learn to play an instrument! ;)

Finally I have a macbook pro. And finally I can use Logic again.
Long time ago, when it was available for windows, it was my fav recording software.
Apple bought Logic and I was forced to use cubase but it never came any close to what logic can do.

Excited times for me. A new OS and Logic back in the studio.

Calling Cubase a 'classic' is correct - I clearly remember v1 on Atari ST - but ever sinds Ableton Live and Logic Pro it somehow feels like a toy. The Steinberg dudes always give high priority on graphical detail but forget the most important thing : Produce creative music.

Sorry, v7 is still a big pain in the $ss with instability issues on the go.

Conclusion: Cubase once was great but now suffers from hanging on with two other big DAW - Live and Logic Pro.

Oh, and don't you hate the dongle hangovers? I do!!

Live? You're joking right? Cubase is right up there with Logic and Pro Tools. I have Logic, Pro Tools, Live and Cubase. I use Cubase most of the time.

Instability? Maybe on your system. Cubase has been rock solid on my Macs since SX 1.

What you're doing is giving your opinion not based on any kind of facts.

Also, while dongles might be an inconvenience (and I don't have a problem with them), you also have to use them if you use Pro Tools, hence I have two dongles.

Trust me, cubase is just a toy compared to logic. I never liked working with it. The work flow is incredible confusion. Not to speak about the huge cpu load it creates.
I am glad I bought a macbook pro so I can enjoy logic again.
About live: imo live is also way better compared to cubase. It does not have a strange gui but it is incredible user friendly and just invites you to be creative.
For recording purposes I advice using logic instead though.

@Bart_Pans, trust you? lol I have Cubase 7, Pro Tools 9, and Logic Pro 9. Sorry, I prefer Cubase over both of them.

It's all about what you are accustomed to. I've been using Cubase since the 90s. I'm very familiar with how it works.

Cubase is closer to Pro Tools as far as the interface, but it's a lot easier to use. I find Logic unintuitive, which is a surprise since it's from Apple. It reminds me of Garage Band, which is also unintuitive. I do use that when I want to do a get a quick and dirty song idea captured. Logic Pro X looks more like Cubase than 9 did.

As far as "work flow" what are you doing working with loops? That's not making music. Thats' using other people's music.

If you are actually recording and playing, then Cubase is better than Live. It's also great for doing MIDI virtual instruments.

Isn't Cubase at version 7? Looks like this listing has not been updated for 8 years? Seriously?

This now works great, upon first inspection, with Panther, making a bit of a white elephant into a full on proffessional app. After being assured in October 2003 that a fix to make Cubase SL compatible with 10.3 should be available 'within a month' this is a welcome updater. Thanks Steinberg. Just next time dear reader, if you call them and the reply to your question ends '...in a month.', ask 'Which month?' Sorry if this pi22@s off any developers but £200 is a lot for an app that doesn't work.
Cubase works very good now. Danke.
