Wow, still no Snow Leopard compatibility. I'm gonna have to find some other app, and re-catalog 900+dvd's I have. It's been too many weeks without being able to access my database. I should have been smarter and memorized all of my dvd's and which slip in the case I have them stored in. I'm an idiot to trust a freeware program. Oh well, it *was* a good program. :(

Snow Leopard compatibility soon? I hope so. It would be nice to get into my database again! Otherwise, this thing is GREAT.

Excellent piece of software. I don't require all sorts of bells and whistles that provide me with little/no value. I just need a list of titles, genre, rating, and 'loaned to' information. This app fits the bill perfectly, and it let me import my old CSV file with no muss or fuss! It does have internet lookup if you need that sort of thing, and it seems to work flawlessly as well. The interface is clean and easy to use, which I wasn't finding browsing most of the other free offerings. I'm grateful I stumbled on this one! Two Thumbs Up ;)

Dear fsDM Users,Through this alert bulletin, we'd like to let you know that we're now aware of problems re the retrieval of DVD details through Amazon-based Web sources. We'd also like to tell you that we've already started investigating what could be the cause of such an issue, and we'll try to keep you informed of our progress towards solving it. Be assured we'll do our best to get your beloved DVD manager back and running as expected as soon as possible. But we don't ignore the possibility that those Web sources may be temporarily removed from fsDM if a new implementation of those retrieval mechanisms was going to be needed…We're really sorry for the inconvenience, and we'd like to thank you all for your patience and understanding in the meantime.- The Team(Credit goes to Graham E. for reporting this alert to us.)

I've been keeping my dvd's in an excel file, I wish DVDManager could import it so I don't have to manually type in 300 dvd's

Having about 150 DVD's this is a dream come true. Not only does this help me keep track of all of my movies, but lets me know which ones are checked out, and who has it (working is Address Book). Thank you for the great software.

Or "A tutorial to get your DVD library back once on Mac OS X v10.4":* If you chose to upgrade from Mac OS X "Panther" (or "Jaguar"), you shouldn't have anything to do: your user's account should be preserved, your data still available; you'd only have to launch (and enjoy using) fennel DVDManager under Tiger.* If you chose to clean install Mac OS X "Tiger" (i.e., through some formatting of your startup volume), be sure you've backup-ed your entire "DVDManager" folder (which is located in your user's account "Library" folder) before running this erasing installation process: you can either use Finder's File > Create Archive of "DVDManager" menu item (good), or our new File > Export DVD Library to Desktop action from fsDM v1.6 (recommended).Once under Tiger, you'd only have to expand this .zip archive into your new user's account "Library" folder, for fennel DVDManager to transparently load your data back on its next launch.Don't hesitate to contact us directly for any question... We wish you the smartest transition to Tiger ;) !

Regarding this recent Mac OS X v10.3.9 issue, one can also try the simpler trick which consists in updating the prebinding. To do that, simply execute the following command in a Terminal: sudo update_prebinding -root / -force This process may take many minutes to fulfill completely; but it may also avoid to some of you the heavyweight re-installation of Apple's Security Update 2005-002 (even if the solution we prefer…) Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to contact us directly for any question/problem. - Fennel Software (http://fennel.free.fr/)

With the just released Mac OS X v10.3.9, some are experiencing some issue while launching fennel DVDManager :( ! So here's a tip to fix your environment: simply reinstall Apple's Security Update 2005-002 (Download - 16.4 MB), and everything should be working just fine again…

DVD Manager is nice, stable and as advertised: bare-boned. Works nicely but i also sum myself up to the list of persons with the desire that it would include an actors field and a "custom" category, since i very frequently find myself without the precise category for some of my movies. I am very thankful anyway to the developers for a nicely done work that can be used for free.

Not bad, especially for free. However, there's too much emphasis on "loans". I don't loan my discs so I don't need any tracking of them. There should be more of an emphasis on categorizing the DVD's themselves, such as listing actors, etc.

FYI, a new build (v19) of fennel DVDManager 1.4.2 was just uploaded to our servers; it includes a new bug fix where previews didn't "stick" when updated from the Internet. Thanks to Xavier L. for the bug report, and sorry for the inconvenience :( !

Great stuff.... but lacking in a few details. The author should add: 1. double-click a DVD to edit it 2. add actors 3. add search capability on actors 4. automatic genre completion 5. html features (title, font, alignment) But overall: well-finished, stable and sobre. (11/21/2004, Version: 1.4)

I really enjoy your product - it makes organizing my collection easy to do. I especially appreciate the fact that you account for multiple disc DVD sets. It makes sets such as Indiana Jones or Star Wars easier to classify. That, and location management - makes keeping track of where they are much simpler! I do have several suggestions for improvement though. One would be separating your 'Author' field into several searchable fields (i.e. Director, Writer, Actor). (Dealing with the auteur theory is a little much when one is just trying to organize their DVD collection!) As well, your detail section is a little sparse. For instance, along with actors, include roles. And distributor, producer, etc. Just to provide a little more searchable detail. Anyway, great product, keep up the great work! Looking forward to your next update!

Features: Sparse options 2/5 Ease of use: Unintuitive 3/5 Value: Free but DVD Attache is better 1/5 Stability: OK 4/5 Comments: Too basic. It needs more work to become a good application. Don't be discouraged, these reviews show you what to do to improve your app.

It looks to me, by checking out the website, that this DVD Manager doesn't have some pretty essential features. For once, being able to search your collection for actors in a movie would be a good thing -- yet it has no place to store that info, except in the notes section. There should be a list that you can manage of actors in the movie with their roles, and this information should come right in from IMDB.

Nice little app...does what it says, it's simple and has a nice interface. And I second what someone said earlier about double clicking a title to enter edit mode...might be a good idea to add this feature :)

v2.1.1 is not qualified for Mac OS X v10.3.5 (yet)We want to inform our users that we're currently experiencing a serious issue around our Amazon-based "Retrieve" action since the recent Mac OS X v10.3.5 update. For the time being—and until we manage to fix, and then qualify our product regarding this new OS version—, we advise you not to use Amazon as a source for retrieving the details of your DVDs. A workaround could be to only use IMDb's (or to manually add them…)We're sorry for the inconvenience, and wanted you to know we're working hard to get this functionality back ASAP. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.

This is the best DVD managing app out there. Better than any of the others, and I have tried them all, well if not all, it was close to that. In fact I like it so much that I really liked to contribute to it's development, but I don't have the money to do that. So I proposed myself to make the Portuguese localization. Thank you to the developers for a great work. Just one thing. I would like some features added, but someone here already asked for them.

Great little app. I'd like to see more prominent IMDb support, like: 1) the movie summary text in the info drawer 2) maybe arrow links in the list of titles to Amazon/IMDb, like iTunes now has links to the music store 3) IMDb/Amazon links (and summaries) on the exported html pages. Keep up the good work!

This app' is rocks! Very easy to use, it does the essential. The retrieve feature is bloody fast compared to other applications I tried. Really sweet the small square button in the upper right corner of the drawer to go to IMDb web site and read the full synopsis and comments from people.

The CPU usage goes to maximum after retrieve 2 movie record. PowerBook become extremely slow, dock can't function properly, finder cannot function, can't force quit and can't shutdown or restart. The idea of this program is very good, we don't need to key in the data manually. But to me, stability is far more important than ease of used. I haven't confirm whether there is any file damage by this problem, but so sure, I won't give second try.

Why does the delete key assume I want to delete the DVD when I'm typing in a title/artist? This is bad UI design.
