5.6.8

To-do list for your menu bar.

Overview

Check Off is a task management application that runs as a stand alone application or a menu bar app.

Features:
  • Your choice: runs in a menu bar mode so that your dock doesn't get cluttered up, or as a normal application.
  • Tasks can be placed within folders, and have labels attached to each task.
  • Tasks can have notes with plain text or rich text with fonts, colors, and sizes.
  • Notes can also contain links to websites or local files, allowing one click access to resources that can be used to complete the task.
  • Menu bar icon color can be customized.
  •  Hot key support to open the main window.
  • Export your tasks as text or RTF.

What's new in Check Off

Version 5.6.8:
  • Fixed an issue around possibly using the wrong color for the menu bar icon when first launching in dark mode.
  • Updated some shared frameworks for catching crashes.

Requirements for Check Off

Ahhhh.. the AppStore.. where developers now feel there's no place for demo versions or trial software and just want you to pay $9.99 without even a remote chance to see if A) the software runs on your system or B) it fulfills your needs. The AppStore has done one great thing here.... stopped me for purchasing many software packages which I may have actually purchased. To the developer... if you think the bulk of users out there will shell out $9.99 simply because your app is in the AppStore, you're kidding yourself. Offer a free demo or trial otherwise, take your software and place it where all software goes to die.

Version 5.2.1 is on App Store as of 0930 Hrs BST 13th June 2014 Adrien [me] was sceptical about Check Off's stable utility for notes. I am not prepared to write a Review and cannot as of now, a few minutes after downloading 5.2.1 from App Store (when Lucien said he awaited MAS approval of 5.2) Happily for me MAS said there was no $9 charge, "as you have already paid for Check Off".) The first glitch is in Preferences: Change fonts did NOT. I would give it overall 4 stars for being able to save notes as Rich Text. I hope to review Check Off 5.2.1 soon [elastca]?

Check Off used to be one of my daily login apps, now this app is no longer save any datas I enter, has been since I updated to v5.1. Anytime I made the whole bunch of lists, on the next system reboot it act as if I never ever even open this app before. I don't know if this is a problem is unique to me or everyone else has it, but I am not going to enter datas over and over again in CheckOff. Trash!

Sadly Elegraphy, this was my experience. I hunted System for 'finder opener', that is to say I am not happy with note-takers that seem to imply data is auto-saved, but I would like to know where or let me specify logging folder. After much spending to devs and MAS I am not shelling-out on the supposedly improved Check Off 5.2.1 unless the dev Lucian reassures us 'the past was bad, the future is good'? Adrien (Yes, internet purchising duds even reaches UK?)

Check Off 5.0.2 has many bugs. Although three bug reports were transmitted by e-mail, even if one week passes, no replies come. You should consider Check Off purchase carefully. I recommend ToDo. ToDo is compatible with 10.7.

If you want a trial visit the dev's page. October 8th, I believe they posted a link to download a demo version of the app w/ a ten item limitation. Version 5, but not 5.0.1 as far as I know. Link: http://com.chromedomesoftware.s3.amazonaws.com/Check_Off_5.0_Demo.zip

I have been using Check-Off for years, and am still using the last pre-shareware, freeware version (3.8). It is stable, a good combination of simplicity and utility, and aesthetically nice. The only draw I could find to the paid version -- and it does seem like a good feature -- is the fact it can be used on an iPod and synced to the computer. I upgraded the OS to 10.7.1 and Check-Off has finally started behaving erratically - as have some other apps.

Though my language may be a bit different, my sentiments are not. I agree 100%... It's just too bad that everything will eventually go the way of the MAS. But please listen, you developers out there: Offer some way for us to demo your stuff. Chances are you'll make more sales!

I agree totally. The Appstore is a major deterrent for me now. And Anon Bud presses exactly the right button. If I can try it, I will probably buy it, but I won't risk any hard-earned buying a potential pig in a poke. Oh...the minus one issue. I used to have quite a few pluses until I questioned three developers as to why they no longer offered PPC archives of their oeuvre once they had moved onto Intel. Nothing hurtful, just a straightforward question. My current 'grade level' is a result of someone piling on the minuses overnight. Love it.

Checkoff was GPL at version 3.8, looks like the dev had a change of heart. I have the 3.8 binary, and 3.6 source, put up in a fresh project on Sourceforge. If anybody has the latest code, please reply! http://sourceforge.net/projects/checkoffosx/files/Check%20Off%203.8%20app.zip/download

Links to files in the notes section work: click on them and the file opens. But the links do not remain. They disappear as soon as the list is retracted. Any suggestions?
