Handy inexpensive and simple app - just what was needed. I would give it five stars if it weren't for one issue. Upon installation the app opens but does not load in the preferences to launch on startup – a good thing – when set to launch on startup it seems to cause some confusion and slows down boot considerably. Best launched from dock after start.
Version 5.2.1 is on App Store as of 0930 Hrs BST 13th June 2014
Adrien [me] was sceptical about Check Off's stable utility for notes. I am not prepared to write a Review and cannot as of now, a few minutes after downloading 5.2.1 from App Store (when Lucien said he awaited MAS approval of 5.2) Happily for me MAS said there was no $9 charge, "as you have already paid for Check Off".)
The first glitch is in Preferences: Change fonts did NOT.
I would give it overall 4 stars for being able to save notes as Rich Text. I hope to review Check Off 5.2.1 soon [elastca]?
Check Off used to be one of my daily login apps, now this app is no longer save any datas I enter, has been since I updated to v5.1. Anytime I made the whole bunch of lists, on the next system reboot it act as if I never ever even open this app before. I don't know if this is a problem is unique to me or everyone else has it, but I am not going to enter datas over and over again in CheckOff. Trash!
Check Off 5.0.2 has many bugs.
Although three bug reports were transmitted by e-mail, even if one week passes, no replies come.
You should consider Check Off purchase carefully.
I recommend ToDo.
ToDo is compatible with 10.7.
If you want a trial visit the dev's page. October 8th, I believe they posted a link to download a demo version of the app w/ a ten item limitation. Version 5, but not 5.0.1 as far as I know.

I have been using Check-Off for years, and am still using the last pre-shareware, freeware version (3.8). It is stable, a good combination of simplicity and utility, and aesthetically nice. The only draw I could find to the paid version -- and it does seem like a good feature -- is the fact it can be used on an iPod and synced to the computer. I upgraded the OS to 10.7.1 and Check-Off has finally started behaving erratically - as have some other apps.
Ahhhh.. the AppStore.. where developers now feel there's no place for demo versions or trial software and just want you to pay $9.99 without even a remote chance to see if A) the software runs on your system or B) it fulfills your needs.
The AppStore has done one great thing here.... stopped me for purchasing many software packages which I may have actually purchased.
To the developer... if you think the bulk of users out there will shell out $9.99 simply because your app is in the AppStore, you're kidding yourself. Offer a free demo or trial otherwise, take your software and place it where all software goes to die.
Hey CheckOff is NOW being redeveloped for the APP STORE through Chrome Dome Software. The FAQs are here. I'm So Happy!!!

Checkoff was GPL at version 3.8, looks like the dev had a change of heart. I have the 3.8 binary, and 3.6 source, put up in a fresh project on Sourceforge. If anybody has the latest code, please reply!
