    Propellerhead Software
Reason is an integrated software music recording and production studio with audio recording, million-dollar mixing and EQs, and all the instruments, sounds and effects you could ever dream of for writing, recording, remixing and producing great-sounding tracks.

Reason 6 has all of the combined features of previous versions of Reason and Propellerhead's Record software, including audio recording, editing, and more.

Also new are several effect devices that can be inserted directly into instruments or onto tracks. 'Pulveriser' allows users to compress, distort, filter,
What's New
Version 6.0.2:
  • Viewing the sequencer area by pressing F7 would always reset keyboard focus to the track list, with confusing results. Now the keyboard focus setting is properly remembered.
  • If you changed settings in the Tool window when there was no open song document, the program could crash.
  • The output of the RV-7 "Large Hall" algorithm was in mono.
  • Copy command (Copy to clipboard) could cause an "Unknown Exception" error message.
  • A few remote codecs (including Behringer BCR/BCF, Korg Kontrol49 and mikroKontrol) were not properly replaced when Reason 6 was installed over an existing Reason 5 installation, which made them stop working under Windows 64. Now they are replaced by the new version at installation.
  • Some audio hardware models (that worked fine in Record) stopped working with Reason 6 under Mac OS X.
  • If Reason received MIDI Clock while in ReWire mode, the program could crash.
  • With some HID devices (e.g. Tablet input devices of certain brands) connected, Reason couldn't launch properly.
  • Bounce Mixer Channels would cause Reason to hang if the program was in MIDI Clock Sync mode.
  • Using the Speaker tool repeatedly in the audio editor could occasionally make the program hang.
  • When the scratch disk became full, Reason 6 could crash.
  • Old non-unicode keyboard layouts (Mac only) could cause Reason 32-bit to crash at startup
  • On a Mac with a two-monitor setup and the SecondBar tool running, some actions could cause Reason to crash.
  • Loading samples, opening and saving songs could take a very long time in some situations.
  • General performance has been improved in many areas.
  • The Novation Automap Control remotemap has been updated
  • Remote support for Teenage Engineering OP-1 has been added.

I finally bought it! I uses almost every demo of every point release. And always I returned to my beloved Live (Ableton). And I still use Live as my main sequencer/daw.

But v6 is very impressive and I now use it to sketch ideas on my Macbook Pro. The 'blocks' feature is really inspiring to use and makes pattern based music a joy.

Live is still the best but Reason6 is very good too.

Finally the sequence part has a separate window. Still a worthy daw with some great synths and effects. Perfect for laptop musicians.

But for me Live is the best of them all. ;)

Salud y suerte.

If it's a comment about the web site, why the three star rating for the application and why posting it here at the page for Reason?

I see no reason for what you've done ;)

These are the issues fixed in the 3.0.4 update:

Export as audio file
There was an issue in Reason 3.0.3 (on Windows) that could cause weird sounds when exporting a song or loop to an audio file. This was most likely to appear when using certain Scream settings. This happened only when exporting audio as everything sounded fine when listening to Reason directly or running Reason in a ReWire host. This has now been fixed.

MIDI import
The MIDI import functionality in Reason 2.5 accepted some MIDI file data that the Reason sequencer could not handle. This could for example be bad controller data outside the sequencer timeline. Saving this bad data to a song made that song unloadable, causing a "Bad Format" alert. In Reason 3.0 we made MIDI import stricter and also changed song loading so that bad data was skipped instead of showing the alert. Unfortunately there were some problems with this handling, which we have now taken care of.

Loading old songs
Some songs produced in Reason 2.5 could not be loaded in Reason 3.0 or 3.0.3. We have addressed some issues regarding NNXT patch data created by some patch conversion utilities, where Reason 3.0 is stricter than Reason 2.5 was.

Cross-browsing
There were some situations with cross-browsing (replacing a device by loading a patch of a different device type) that caused "Unknown Exception" alerts in Reason 3.0 and 3.0.3. This has now been fixed.

Combined note handling
Sending overlapping notes from the sequencer to a Combinator that contained a Malström in Legato mode could cause hanging notes in Reason 3.0 and 3.0.3. For example, drawing two C4 notes where the second note starts before the first ends, and setting the track target to the Combinator produced different results than setting the track target to the Malström. This has now been fixed.

Missing icons in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
After installing Reason 3.0.3 in Mac OS X 10.4 refills icons could change appearance and turn blank. Also all wave and aiff files were wrongly associated to Reason. Both of these issues were a result of new handling of file types in Mac OS X 10.4. This has now been fixed.

The Orkester refill as it appears on the CD will still be wrong as this error exist on the physical CD. This will be fixed in the next batch of printed CDs.

All my latest choons are coming up with this "Unknown Exception" error dialogue and will not open. I'm soooo gutted right now!

I installed Tiger, the latest operating system for Macs, and its latest updates. So of course I had to upgrade Reason 3.0 to 3.0.5 so it would be compatible. And now I'm dead in the water. My old songs that I wrote b4 3.0 will open fine, but not the 12 new ones I've written in the past 6 months. I looked through the Propellerheads FAQ, and it said the "Unknown Exception" error happens only on Windows.

I've searchin high & low for answers and still have yet to find a solution. Any help would be stellar

Here's the release notes:

"Adresses performance issues in Reason 3.0 and also adds Remote support for new controllers."

And am I the only one that can't get the file to unzip? I keep getting an error.

Just got Reason 3.0 last night. Damn it is such a massive update. All my criticisms of the previous version have vanished!

Main noticable improvements:
M-Class mastering suite - suddenly all those projects sound amazing.
New browser with find and preview functions - really makes finding the right sound easy - used to be a real hassle.
Interface refinements and now the windows work with command-` function properly (i.e. you don't need to click the new window)
Better support for MIDI instruments - now recognises my Edirol PCR-30 perfectly, so no more patching to get adequate controls.

Overall it feels like a much more OS X program than previously and already the songs I've made on it sound so much better.

Thanks propellerhead!

"Alligator" is a rhythmic texturing tool that makes it possible to add rhythm and accents to synth sounds and change percussion loops. Users can also get pitch-perfect vocals using the new "Neptune" pitch adjuster.
