I have tried several times to burn some avi and mpeg files onto both DVD-R and DVD+R disks.

The video works fine, but I have no sound in the preview and also after burning.

Have found many people with the same problem, but no solutions.

Someone please help.

Works fine overall for me in SL 10.68. Am glad they fixed the file re-linking issue.

I've always loved iDVD for years now. Makes a decent stab at doing a pretty home video menu (well families are always impressed no matter what you do) but it's pretty simple and makes a relatively professional job (minus the translucent Apple logo in the bottom right to give away the source being a minor point).

There's still the little niggle though of it not fully understanding Anamorphic Widescreen DV. Sometimes you still have to manually change it on your TV (maybe it's the flavour of H264 codec I'm using out of Compressor I don't know.)

It's no DVD Studio but for a quick & slick-looking professional DVD wrap it cworks, although I certainly don't claim to be an expert but overall I'm still very happy with it in an iMovie sort of way. It is what it is despite some of the snide remarks below.

I didn't know that. I haven't dug around in General Preferences for a while. Many thanks for the tip. ;)

Hmmm - this requires 10.6.6, which is the OS X update I passed on due to privacy concerns with the App Store.

There are no privacy concerns, unless you think that checking the version numbers of your software is a problem.

Actually I have to agree, never before Little Snitch POP so much!

So your grandmother understands superior optical visual/audio quality and owning what you pay for! You uh... not so much! But sounds like you're young enough to learn these differences.

Whatever you think. Enjoy your superior 480i quality while I
stick with my 1280p files. Soon all camcorders will be progressive
and further send all dvd players into obsolescence.

Wow, 1280p - that's even cooler than 1080p. You must be very special.

480i, no reply as to rights to ownership or audio quality and 1280p, what planet do you live on? Ignorance always amazes! Previously said, learn.

Idvd is a piece of crap, took a beautiful movie and made a dvd worthy of early low quality vhs.

Where is this apple quality I always heard about, you should see the dvd that my windows 7 laptop created, outstanding.

I'm a Video Professional, so I am very picky, from a professional stand point. I am very satisfied with the DVDs iDVD produces, but it's all about feeding it good quality video and setting the encode settings correctly. Video is an art. Perfection is not usually a simple 1 2 3 click, and you're done. With that said I'd be more likely to use DVD studio pro for my line of work, but right now it's just too expensive, and Apple doesn't sell it independent of fcS, and I don't need the full studio right now.

The few times I've used iDVD, I've been very satisfied.

7.04 fixes the crashing issues when burning a project within Snow Leopard 10.62. Back in my good books, Apple!

With this version 7.03, the Inspector palette no longer works / shows up in Tiger 10.4.11, so very hard to edit anything compared to the previous version. Poor Apple!
