Hello Macbond,

unfortunately my app mutes only input sources (microphone, etc.).

If you are advanced user, check out something called Startup Items. If you don't feel comfortable with system administration there is an app for muting startup sound StartupSound.prefPane

Hope this helps.

This is already built in to OSX. In the Sound control panel in System Preferences. simply check the box labeled "Show Volume in Menu Bar". Holding down the Option key will allow you to choose the Input/Output device or Sound Preferences. If you need a keyboard shortcut you can probably create one under the Keyboard control panel in System Preferences.

Otherwise feel free to throw away a dollar on this app.

Hello Jimw,

you are right, showing Volume Control is possible through the system preferences, however, you won't be able to control input volume :(

This is the place where this app takes over the control :)

Hello Jim, as far as I recall Volume Controller do not control Input volume.

I can read in your profile that you are experienced with Macs. Can you point me to resources where I can read how to set Input Volume hot-keys? Thanks!

Actually you don't need to try to remember another shortcut key; just hold down the shift key when clicking on the Apple volume control menu icon and you can set the input volume directly with the slider. The only prefs that can't be set with the Apple sound icon are is the actual sound. For this Apple conveniently provides direct access to Sound Preferences.

Here it says it requires at least Mac OS X 10.6, application says it requires 10.7.

Why no compatibility for 10.5? Why can such a simple tool possible need 10.7+ to run???

"Here it says it requires at least Mac OS X 10.6" - correct, you are right. This was an error due to incorrect settings within project.

Since version 1.7 MuteMyMic is integrated with Growl, it will notify you each time input volume was changed by other applications.

There is a new feature - "force mute". Whenever MuteMyMic determines that microphone was unmuted it will mute it again (this feature can be enabled/disable via Preferences panel).
