Sound Siphon overview

Sound Siphon makes your Mac’s audio output available as an audio input device. It allows you to send audio from one application to another, where it can be processed, streamed, or recorded. It's as simple as selecting a microphone in your favorite app. Sound Siphon works with Core Audio to provide this capability to all of your audio apps. As such, it easily integrates into any existing audio-production environment.

Features:
  • Capture all of your Mac's audio
  • Capture specific application audio
  • Independently adjust the levels of each application
  • Capture application audio mixed together as stereo audio
  • Capture discretely with each application's audio in its own channels
  • Mute captured applications while capturing

What’s new in version 3.6.6

I actually have an even more recent version that is listed here: v 3.4.1. This is an awful, mercurial piece of software that works when it want to. Would very much NOT recommend. I bought it about a year ago to try to stream music and mic pickups as part of webcast. It worked tolerably well, but you had to start things up in a certain order. For a while under v 3.3.6, things worked pretty good. But then suddenly 3.3.6 completely broke. Literally nothing worked. The program would launch, but none of the menu items worked nor could I add any sources. Put in for a support ticket. I waited a few weeks. In the meantime, upgraded to Mac OS 13 and then was prompted to update SoundSiphon 3.4.1. That at least let me add sources, and it seemed to work alright for all of a day. Then it decided not to capture from sources. Sometimes I can get it to capture from one source only to have it stop capturing from another source. The thing is a piece of crap, and I does not work as advertised..

Just put in the extra 50 dollars for loopback. Sound Siphon is officially a failed experiment at this point.

Hey guys, 3.3.4 seems to work under macOS Monterey, so I was curious if there was anything not working yet because the site only lists through big sur for support. 3.3.4 says it adds early support for Monterey, so I was curious as to what that means, since I haven't had issues with it under 12.0.2.

It's been a few more months, and the Sound Siphon website seems unchanged, and has no updated info regarding Big Sur support. Since the other poster has not provided any information, I'm assuming they haven't heard anything either. Considering that in years past, the developer was always responsive, and updates were very timely: makes me wonder if the company went under, or the developer passed away. I've had that happen with apps before and didn't find anything out until a year or two later. (AppDelete example here) As I mentioned in a previous comment, I've purchased AudioHijack to replace Sound Siphon until further notice. I had no problems with SS, but since there has been no info about what's going on that's been released. I needed to have a working compatible app to use when needed. So if Anyone who reads this, has any updated info at this point, would appreciate it. Thanks By the way, when I looked at all the software StaticZ produces, NOTHING has been updated in a long time, not just Sound Siphon, at least from what I've observed looking at the website.

I also have been checking regularly for an update to enable compatibility with Big Sur, and haven't found anything. Does anyone have any information on the current status of Sound Siphon? Any information would be helpful, thank you

Hey all, Does anyone happen to know if Sound Siphon has been discontinued? I have bee checking the site regularly for the Big Sur compatible version, and nothing has come out. What's even more odd is, there was initially a public beta download that's now gone, and the site hasn't been updated with any info (even in the FAQs) to reflect status. I emailed support a couple weeks ago, which has always been responsive, and haven't heard anything back. Considering it's been several months since the initial Big Sur release, and the site appears to be inactive, and also considering the developer in past has always gotten updates out for a new macOS release at release, or up to a couple weeks after, I was wondering if something has happened, and if the software is now abandoned. If anyone has info beyond what I tried to gain on my own. Would love to know. Thanks

I realized that version 3.0 would not accept my previous version 2.0 serial number. I therefore concluded that it’s a paid upgrade but there is no indication on how to do this. Does this mean that old users have to pay the full price? Thanks.

I already own Audio Hijack and am pleased with its performance. However, I find Sound Siphon easier to use and it especially benefits from something I always missed in Audio Hijack – “a small footprint” just enough to accommodate all its essentials functions without covering my valuable screen space. I began with “Sound Control” and then upgraded to “Sound Siphon”. The developer offers a generous discount equal to the price you paid for Sound Control when you decide to switch to the more powerful version and a lavish discount if you already own WireTap Pro or WireTap. Sound Siphon functions flawlessly and consumes little memory. I also enjoyed an extraordinary customer support even before deciding to buy the product for which I thank heartily the developer. Great application and a very responsible developer to put it mildly. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI – Verona (Italy)

I needed a replacement for Soundflower and didn’t want the expense of Audio HiJack. So this was perfect! It works great. Only drawback is: it’s not for beginners. You need to know what you’re doing. This is intermediate-skill software that is built for purpose.

I wanted to let everyone know something I learned this evening. If you have already purchased Sound Siphon version 1.x, version 2,x is a Free Upgrade. I was trying to find out if I would have to pay an upgrade fee for myself or not because I hadn't found any upgrade pricing, just new licensing pricing. Here is the link on their site to back this information up: http://staticz.com/support/soundsiphon/ This is a great piece of software.

Very well build audio capturing tool. Beside the great looking GUI this tool is incredible powerful and recording any audio happening on your system. But why does it needs to be so expensive?

At first I thought this was just an Audio Hijack ripoff, but I was very wrong. This does at least one thing that no other software I've found has been able to do: It lets me use the built in volume controls to adjust the sound levels of my AudioEngine DAC. Yes, AudioHijack lets me use the DAC as the output, but I can only control the volume levels from within Hijack itself. Now I use Siphon as the output in Hijack and can adjust volume levels without having to use the hardware. And this basic functionality is free, so I can't knock that!
