Downloaded and installed the "combo" package without incident. This update resolved an ongoing issue (several months) with having difficulty getting "clean" shutdowns of my 2007 15" MBP. Had tried numerous options of shutting down background programs, deleting Safari cache's and history, removing Safari from the dock and then opening from the Application Folder, and on and on without any consistent solution. The problem appeared to be traceable to something in Safari. NOW all is well. I don't have to do any of the things I tried. Just click on "Shut down" and it SHUTS DOWN. Imagine that. Good work by Apple providing a real update.

Thanks for link explaining this. I downloaded the combo update from Apple this morning and found it larger than the one I downloaded from here a few days ago and was wondering the difference. I'm going to try again and see if it resolves my issue with wifi on wake after sleep which I did not have have prior to 10.7.3.

Well, sadly this did not resolve my new wifi issue. Ironic how 10.7.3 was supposed to fix the wifi wake from sleep issue for those that had it and now a lot of us who never had it now do.

This update has actually slowed my machine down. Using Mac Mini 2011 with 8 GB ram, 256k dedicated video, and dual Core i7. This machine ran great until this update. Now there is a feeling of the system dragging; Safari is slow and not functioning right. Used Combo Updater, and re-installed using Combo updater. I am extremely disappointed with the last few updates from Apple. Damn, I miss Steve. This is CRAP!!!

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I did a clean install on my MacBook Air 1.83 C2D and Software update install on a 2.8 iMac i7 and both are running as faster as ever, Safari included. Perhaps if you troubleshoot Safari a little more and see if something else is causing the slowdown.

the combo also worked better for me.
mac5, a couple of posts below, says he fixed some issues by deleteing system, user and internet caches and fixing disk permissions. a reboot should also optimize it.

Hey, I miss Steve too, but I'm on a Mac mini i7 8gb Ram 2011 quad core and I have had no troubles. I'm on 10.7.3

Sridalian, is that quad core a server? No quad core i7 in standard 2011 mac mini.

Sridalian replied on 07 Feb 2012
When I bought it from the apple online store they gave me the option to upgrade it to quad core.

Strange some people find this update snappier. While any benchmark isn't showing any progress concerning graphics.

Anyway, the update wend fine.

I think the snappiness has more directly to do with restarting the computer than anything else. With every point release of OS X people always write "It seems faster/snappier."

Do NOT install the 10.7.3 update unless you have a Time Machine backup. MANY users are finding their applications no longer launch after installing.

I had the same problem with several apps, including Safari.
I deleted my system, user, and internet caches and it seemed to fix the problem. Disk Utility was then run as a final fix. Everything is now working fine.. and my system does appear to be running a little faster.

the Combo Update contains all the updates from 10.7.1 to 10.7.3, it's a larger file and you can download it with the link provided here. The software update is an incremental update, from 10.7.2 to 10.7.3 only. But it seems the Combo Update is better, for strange reason

Ok, i'm going to download it now.

Can you tell me what is the better or the difference you found in installing the combo version?

Speed? Graphic? or what?

I did the update via Software update, and worked fine. Still, I downloaded the combo update and installed and it runs better!!!... Snapier and more responsive on my side, I recommend the Combo Update instead using the Software Update

Was kind of hoping for iBooks 2 for mac, or at least set the underpinnings for it: if they don't do that I will instinctively reassess my opinion of Apple's marketing and education strategy. Hope it's snappier because in Apple's list of changes there doesn't seem much for all the size as I've had few glaring issues except for having to rebuild launchpad's database reading a few times.

I tried going back to SL, thought I had it working, and realized some things are NOT working. When I drag over my Mail file from the 10.7 disk, then start to use mail it forces an import which wipes out the transferred mail data.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET 10.6 MAIL WORKING WITH DATA FROM 10.7? The Mail program is the same rev level. Doing an import does not work either. With my mail data I must return to using Lion. HELP!!!

10 minutes after updating i get what i've been getting every other day since i installed this software: a slowly descending gray screen saying that i need to hold down the power button to shut down. i guess that's what i get for pushing my machine to the limits by using the internet and dragging and dropping files.

this is by far the buggiest piece of software (POS) i have ever used.

Macolyte had trouble on 20 Jul 2011
MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB

Problems I've encountered:

The install restart got into a loop trying to load GoogleDesktopAgent.app which I had failed to find pre upgrade. Force quitting Software Update was no relief, it just came back immediately. Booting into Root caused the box to hang. Twice. Being very patient dismissing no-load complaints I found and deleted the offending software and restarted successfully.

In Mail, Spam Sieve is gone. It's ugly already, as mail generated by Calendar is turning up as Spam. Ugh.

In Safari, my bookmarks are all intact, but none actually work. I mean, I can copy and paste them successfully, but clicking them, or pulling down to one elicits no response whatsoever. Ditto cookies. 1Password is a no-show which I have, admittedly, not checked out for an update yet.

I'm not jumping for Time Machine yet, but I'm glad to know I've got it.

Apple OS X Lion is built on a rock-solid UNIX foundation, engineered to take full advantage of the technologies in every new Mac, and designed to deliver the most intuitive and integrated computer experience possible.

Hardware and software made for each other. Since the software on every Mac is created by the same company that makes the Mac, you get a fully integrated system in which everything works together perfectly. OS X works with the processor architecture in your Mac to deliver the best possible performance. Mac notebooks include a Multi-Touch trackpad that lets you pinch, swipe, and tap your way through every app on the system. OS X gives you long battery life by dimming the screen in low-light conditions and even regulating processor activity between keystrokes.

Easy to use and incredibly powerful. From the desktop you see when you start up your Mac to the applications you use every day, everything is designed with simplicity and elegance in mind. So getting things done is both intuitive and fun. Of course, making amazing things simple takes seriously advanced technologies, and OS X is loaded with them. Not only is it built on a rock-solid, time-tested UNIX foundation that provides unparalleled stability, it also delivers incredible performance, stunning graphics, and industry-leading support for Internet standards.

Secure by design. OS X doesn't get PC viruses. And with virtually no effort on your part, the operating system protects itself from other malicious applications. Because every Mac ships with a secure configuration, you don't have to worry about changing complex settings in order to stay safe. Even better, OS X won't slow you down with constant security alerts and sweeps. Apple responds quickly to online threats and automatically delivers security updates. And with FileVault 2 in OS X Lion, all the data on your Mac is protected by powerful encryption.

Built for compatibility. The versatility and power of OS X help a Mac fit in just about anywhere--including Windows networks. Want to transfer your files, photos, and other data from a Windows PC? OS X lets you do that easily. If you want to run Windows on your Mac, you can do that, too. OS X has built-in support for the latest version of Microsoft Exchange Server, so you can use your Mac at home and at work and keep all your messages, meetings, and contacts in one place. OS X works with virtually all of today's digital cameras, printers, and other peripherals without the need to manually download separate drivers. And it opens popular file types such as JPG, MP3, and PDF, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.

Accessible innovation. OS X comes standard with a wide range of assistive technologies that help people with disabilities experience what the Mac has to offer, including many features you won't find in other operating systems
